Soda Stream Review

Heaven on EARTH!

IMG_1606

If you follow me on Twitter,  you might have read that I have a serious obsession with La Croix carbonated water (the plain kind).  I love to drink carbonated water when I’m feeling bored at work (better than boredom snacking).

The trouble was that I was polishing off a pack of La Croix in a few days (like, 4 or 5 cans a day. Ridiculous.  It’s just water, but its expensive water).   When the nice people at Soda Stream offered to send me a Home Soda Maker kit, I jumped at the chance to make my own carbonated water.  They sent me the Foundation Jet Starter Kit machine.

The Soda Stream machine is very easy to use and it creates fun, bubbly water in just thirty seconds!

Plus, Soda Stream is environmentally friendly because you don’t throw away bottles or cans.  And each machine comes with an extra "soda" bottle for storage in the fridge.   When you need a CO2 refill, you simply return the canister to Soda Stream and they send you a filled one (for $20).   Super environmentally friendly!

 IMG_1607

The machines are expensive to start with ($100), but if you drink a lot of bubbly water, you could easily earn this back in a few months.  Plus, you can make your own carbonated fruit juice!  I’m excited to try some at-home juice mixes, like bubbly orange juice, cranberry juice, or even POM Wonderful juice!

Soda Stream does sell coke mixes and sent me a few to try:

I might try them but I doubt I would actually purchase these myself — too much artificial stuff in them.   But it would be a fun thing at a party!

Thanks Soda StreamMy La Croix obsession is officially over.

This morning, I snacked on watermelon:

And crackers:

And lunch was a stuffed baked green pepper.  Mmmm!

IMG_1611

Inside my stuffed baked green pepper was a mix of:

  • Brown rice
  • Baked tofu
  • Spinach
  • Onion
  • Cheese!

IMG_1617

I prepared the tofu and rice as I normally would, and then I mixed it with the veggies and cheese, stuffed in the pepper, and baked it all again for 20 minutes.  Delicious.  And fun!

Cuteness

Every morning, the Husband gets ready for school/work and then sits on the couch for breakfast.   Maggie always jams herself up next to him and wiggles to be as CLOSE AS POSSIBLE:

I like how she has one paw on him.  It’s like she’s saying,  "PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME!"

Have a great day!

My doggie does that too, but curls himself in a tight little ball and buries his nose in the side of my bathrobe πŸ™‚

  • cookinfanatic September 10, 2009, 10:26 am

Our dog does the same thing to my boyfriend – except while he is playing video games haha – check out the pic! http://cookinfanatic.wordpress.com/2009/08/20/dreamin-of-the-islands-already/

And we had some stuffed green peppers too for din last night (not meat free however) – aren't they just the best!

  • Morgan (lifeafterbagels) September 10, 2009, 10:27 am

Stuffed pepper, I'm so into that. Why have I not thought of it, I love peppers!

I live through you, meghann, and jenna with your dog pics.

  • Elsa September 10, 2009, 10:30 am

I wish I could love carbonated water, I just can't get use to it. No matter what flavor.
But super cool that you got to kick the la croix habit and now you have the soda stream to obsess about!

  • Erica September 10, 2009, 10:30 am

How fun is that machine? FYI- you can get CO2 bottles refilled at most welding shops for CHEAP. I only know this because we have a keggerator and thats where we get our tank refilled.

  • talesfromtwocities September 10, 2009, 10:34 am

I love seltzer-particularly addicted to the polar vanilla flavored kind, yum!

  • Danica's Daily September 10, 2009, 10:38 am

So jealous of your Soda Stream @ home!!! We have one at work that I use ALL the time to make fizzy water – LOVE it!

    Delicious lunch!

  • Jenna September 10, 2009, 10:46 am

OH MY GOD!!! That machine IS heaven on earth. I have an obsession with carbination as well.

You are so right, you would easily make up for the $100 in a few months. Hmmm, may have to look into this :).

Stuffed peppers are one of my favorite meals of all time. I love to throw some red sauce into mine as well. Delicious! And my que to go eat lunch.

    Have a great afternoon!

  • Ali September 10, 2009, 10:50 am

Oh wow! I love fizzy water, I drink it all the time! I drink La Croix too. that Soda Steam machine looks awesome. I will have to look into it.

GAH! I love Maggie pictures! I think that it is a wiener trait to curl up to you as close as they possibly came. Oscar does that all the time when he is sleepy!

  • Marisa (Trim The Fat) September 10, 2009, 10:50 am

    Your stuffed pepper looks amazing!

Glad you're having fun with your Soda Stream πŸ™‚

  • Nicci@NiftyEats September 10, 2009, 10:51 am

  • Pam (Highway to Health) September 10, 2009, 10:52 am

Great review. I had to cut eout seltzer because it was getting too pricey!

  • Mica September 10, 2009, 10:59 am

Man, I think Maggie is one of the greatest dogs ever, and I haven't even met her in real life. I can't imagine how cute she is in-person!

  • Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) September 10, 2009, 11:01 am

I didn't even know something like that was available for purchase! Too cool!

  • Mellissa September 10, 2009, 11:12 am

Thanks for doing the review, I have been looking at purchasing one of these for months. I know what my next big purchase will be!

  • Thinspired September 10, 2009, 11:12 am

SO. COOL. (about the soda thing) I've wanted one of those for so long! That will be nice to have when guests come over, too. You can ask them "still or sparkling?!" like in fancy restaurants πŸ˜‰

  • Shelly September 10, 2009, 11:13 am

Your soda stream sounds awesome! I love bubbly water and keep toying with the idea of getting one, but my kitchen space is sadly quite limited. This is also a reason why I don't have a juicer.

  • Susan September 10, 2009, 11:13 am

That's awesome! I didn't know things like that existed! I don't like carbonation though…the bubbles hurt my tongue :\

  • Hi! I'm Erin September 10, 2009, 11:14 am

That machine looks awesome! I love "flavored" seltzer water. That is, the kind that tastes like something but has no calories and no artificial sweeteners. Wonder how I could use a machine like that to make some at home…

  • emily September 10, 2009, 11:15 am

hi i am a beginning runner, you keep mentioning getting into the zone while running. i am having trouble with this, i keep paying attention to everything around me as well as distance. do you have any tips on how to zone out? or is it hard to zone out as a beginner because running is as easy yet?
    emily

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point September 10, 2009, 11:18 am

emily – yes i think zoning out will come with time. in the meantime, you can try focusing on something like your breathing or the sound of your feet on the pavement? i find that helps!

  • Melissa September 10, 2009, 11:22 am

That stuffed pepper looked delicious! I'm going to add those to my dinner options for next week.

Also loved the picture of your husband and your dog. My dog and boyfriend have a similar relationship…I posted a pic exactly like yours on my blog this morning!

  • Laura@FindingAHealthyBalance September 10, 2009, 11:26 am

My doggie, Peanut (Chi), does the same with my husband…….but pretty much all the time! He is her favorite, though I do get lots of love whenever I come home from work, she is always waiting for me with her tail wagging! =) Laura

  • Kath September 10, 2009, 11:39 am

NO waaaaaaaaaay! I have been dying for one of those for years!!!

  • brandi September 10, 2009, 11:40 am

I have never even HEARD of one of these things! How cool!!! That would be awesome to be able to make your own.

that is such a cute picture πŸ™‚

Roxy does that to my husband, but I just think she's saying "stay off him, he was mine first" πŸ™‚

  • Laurel September 10, 2009, 11:55 am

You are such an inspiration for me to get back into running! I am in my second year of dental hygiene school and I forgot what a wonderful thing running brings to your life! That soda machine looks pretty cool! Just wanted make sure you knew that you cannot substitute carbonated water for your regular water drinking. A lot of people get into the carbonated water thing (my sister being one of them), but don't know that carbonation is not good for your teeth. If you do drink it, make sure to rinse your mouth with regular water after and definitely do not have it in a water bottle at your desk to sip on all day, that is the worst. Thanks again for the inspiration!

  • angieinatlanta September 10, 2009, 12:06 pm

Awesome! I love carbonated drinks so I love the idea!

    And stuffed peppers are AMAZING!

  • Running, kind of. September 10, 2009, 12:12 pm

Pretty cool "fizzy water" maker you have there! When I was Italy they pretty much only drink fizzy water, and it comes out of the ground that way, or at least that is how I understood it. The juice sounds really good! I may just have to try and justify this one!

Your stuffed pepper looks awesome too!

  • shawna @ Balancing Me September 10, 2009, 12:12 pm

Yum, that pepper looks great! I have pretty much everything in the fridge ready to go for these, so this might be lunches for the weekend! Thanks for the great idea!

  • Lizzy September 10, 2009, 12:14 pm

When i first found out about the La Croix water i jumped at it because at the time i was trying to kick my diet soda addiction! I love the idea of making your own. do you think you'll stick with just plain?

  • The Shabby Princess September 10, 2009, 12:18 pm

How fun! You're right, the make your own soda would be super fun for a party!

Aww, Maggie is so cute! My doggies like to do that too.

  • Kristen September 10, 2009, 12:43 pm

I've actually heard of these machines on the radio- looks really neat!

  • Paige@ Running Around Normal September 10, 2009, 12:56 pm

Oh that's so cool! What a great gift πŸ™‚

Maggie and Kristien are so cute, too.

  • Adriane September 10, 2009, 2:04 pm

I just started drinking carbonated water and it has definitely curbed my mindless snacking. I love the citrus ones or the raspberry flavors. Let us know how you like the machine!

  • *One Step at a Time* September 10, 2009, 2:11 pm

oh my gosh, do you like diet coke? I beg that you do a "taste test" to see if you can tell the difference between REAL diet coke and the "diet cola" from the machine! I am kind of addicted to diet coke, and this would save me so much money! HAHA! Must stop the addiction….

  • Tasha September 10, 2009, 2:55 pm

    Awesome machine!

  • Tiffany September 10, 2009, 4:08 pm

We LOVE our SodaStream! It was a gift from my sis-in-law who's addicted. It's so fast and easy and doesn't take up much room. I don't drink it as often as I like – I forget to make it and put it in the fridge. I'd never even heard of it before. That's awesome that they sent you one for FREE~!

  • Lauren September 10, 2009, 5:53 pm

OH MY GOODNESS Caitlin, this picture just made my laugh so much because my hubby and the pup look IDENTICAL to this scene every single morning too! It's too cute, I am going to post a picture of this same thing tomorrow just so you can see the similarites!

Maggie's paw just kills me! Precious beyond words!!

Your hubby is DEFINITELY coming out of his shell. I showed my hubs Kristien's post and said, "You know I'm gonna want you to do one too!" He just smiled and said "Not yet!" We'll work on him!:-D

I just got a Soda Stream! (of course I had to buy mine!). It is a great thing…and I feel much better not using all of that plastic that I had been going through with my seltzer bottles.
