Heart Centered Yoga

in All Posts

My mom suggested we go to yoga class today, and I positivity jumped at the chance!

The Glowing Body is a yoga studio/cafe.  I loved the unique look and feel of the studio.

We took a 60-minute class called Heart-Centered Yoga.  Here is the class description:

This class follows the teachings of Anusara Yoga. The Universal Principles of Alignment, heart-centered language, and life-affirming philosophy are combined to open the body, mind and soul. Emphasis is placed on building strength, flexibility and balance. Classes may include Pranayama and/or Meditation. It is open to everyone, regardless of experience.

It was a very good class!  Not as active as my Power Yoga classes in Orlando, but a lot more calming (and ya’ll know I can use some calming in my life).

After yoga, we stopped by this cute little bakery called Magpie’s (the slogan is All butter… All the time!):

I snagged this free mini cupcake:

After class + cupcake, we drove to Market Square in downtown Knoxville.  It’s a really cute walking mall with tons of funky shops and live music during the weekends.

We stopped at the Tomato Head for lunch:

I ordered the Hummus Pita, which had hummus, cucumber, carrot, tomato, and sprouts.  Plus a side salad:

Honestly, I wasn’t impressed.  I’ve eaten at the Tomato Head before and had much nicer dishes.  This was kind of "ehh."  I could’ve made it at home for like $5 less.  🙂

On the way home, we saw a hit and run and I got to call 911.  Always exciting.  I think this is the third time I’ve gotten to call 911 on the blog?  What’s with me and accidents and fires?

I’m going to go relax and get ready for an evening run.  I love vacays.

A relaxing yoga class during vacation sounds perfect! I'm kicking myself for not doing one of the beach yoga classes when we were on the Cape.

I hate when you go out to eat and are order something that you feel you could make so much better. So dissapointing but at least you had a great day with mom! Yoga and shopping, sounds like a fantastic way to start your week.

I truly hope you are enjoying every moment of this well deserved break!

I hate the bummed out feeling when you get your meal and think "I could've done this better myself…for less cash"

  • Anonymous August 10, 2009, 9:39 pm

I just came across your blog today (from a link on the Operation Beautiful page)…what a WONDERFUL idea! I've already got a bunch of pre-written post its ready for when I'm in the next public place!
I've just recently started running (just about 5 months ago) and I was happy to come across the blog!

    Keep up the good work!!

I love the idea of heart centered yoga. Sometimes it is exactly what the body and mind are craving. Sure power yoga gets you moving fast and burning calories, but mixed in with a more relaxed class they can do wonders together.
It could even be argued that the calming and stress relieving benefits of heart centered yoga are just as important as the fast paced cardio you get from power yoga

    That cupcake is too cute!

  • seesaraheat August 11, 2009, 6:08 am

Sorry your meal wasn't that great…I've noticed that a lot of places skimp on the vegetarian dishes and that is a shame.

Anyway, glad you were there to call 911! You are just in the right place at the right time I guess. Lucky for that other person too 🙂

  • Trainer T.s Fitness August 11, 2009, 9:12 am
