I went on THE BEST RUN I’ve had in more than 3.0 months!  I tackled 7.0 miles and I felt so strong the entire time.  This run was unique because I was trying out Kinesio Taping, which my physical therapist did this afternoon.

As the PT put it, kenesio taping gives you Shar Pei knees.  🙂

I guess it’s almost like knee sleeves, but better!  I loved the kinesio taping — it has a little bit of stretch so it felt more flexible than the athletic tape I usually use.  Also, my PT told me that you should let the tape "settle" for about 20 minutes before exercising or you’ll just sweat it off (which explains the issues I’ve been having with the other tape).

When I set out on my run, a major thunderstorm had just passed, but it looked pretty gloomy out.

Within 1.0 mile, it started to pour again — and I mean POUR.  It rained HARD for almost the entire run.  Thank goodness I was wearing a hat!  I never mind running in the rain (I actually kind of prefer it), but I do hate dodging puddles.  My sneakers were soaked by the time I got home.

As mentioned, it was an amazing run.  I never felt tired, I never felt sore…. I just RAN.  The old Caitlin is back!

Here are my statistics:

  • Duration: 1 hour 8 minutes 6 seconds
  • Distance: 7 miles
  • Calories Burned: 560

And here are my afternoon eats…. Around 2 PM, I had a Z-Bar (in the car!):

About 1 hour before  my run, I had a bowl of granola + skim milk:

After my run, I drank a glass of milk and showered.

While I was stretching, a commercial for Papa John’s came on and the Husband said, "Ooooo I really want pizza now!" And I said, "AHH so do I!"  So we went to the local pizza place and got a pie.

I drank a Perrier and ate two garlic rolls while we waited for the pizza to come out:

And I had two slices of vegetarian pizza:

7.0 miles makes me a very, very hungry girl!  It was delicious!  We need to do (sober) pizza runs more often. 🙂

hi! I have been reading your blog for months but just never got around to commenting. Anyways I saw that you are using the kinesio tape and i have had knee problems for ever and before i opted to have surgery (I had extra tissue/ plica in my knees which was rubbing, yuck) the kinesio tape was the greatest thing. Glad to see it working for you as well! Love your blog!

  • heyitstay July 31, 2009, 10:04 pm

i love kenesio tape, it got really popular after the olympics, but i've used it for years from old gymnastics injuries. pizza looks delicious, much better than papa john's!

  • Pam (Highway to Health) August 1, 2009, 6:22 am

Congrats on your good run! I bet it was the best feeling!

  • Juicy Jessy August 1, 2009, 6:59 am

hahahaha your knees are really funny 🙂 It's great that it helped; but I wonder; can you do this yourself? How do you know you're doing it right? I have some knee problems once in a while and I currently use this patella strap, but this looks a lot more efficient!!! Have they thought you how to do it?

  • lookingforserenity August 1, 2009, 7:07 am

great job on running so much! its prob. the tape that's helping 🙂 hahaha

  • Andee (Runtolive) August 1, 2009, 7:11 am

Great running stats! I'm the opposite, I hate running in the rain and the feeling of wet socks and shoes. Dinner looks great!

  • Christina August 1, 2009, 7:20 am

I love pizza nights! I like how you called it a pie. That's what we call it here but when I went to college my friends wouldn't know what I was talking about. They'd be like "it's a pizza" and I'd be like "a pizza pie!"

  • tponz August 1, 2009, 7:23 am

pizza really just never gets old! i made some last night! so good!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point August 1, 2009, 7:30 am

Juicy Jessy – They taught me how to do it but I can never tape as good as the PT 🙁

  • Bricklyrknitter August 1, 2009, 7:30 am

Yay Caitlin! Great time on that run! I also do better running in the rain and snow. Not sure why! Congrats !

  • Kimberly August 1, 2009, 7:43 am

Papa John's commercials: sending hungry people to other, better pizza joints for 20 years 😉

When you run in the rain, do you bring your iPod? Does it generally make it through unscathed, or do you take off your headphones as soon as the drops start? That's my one worry about getting caught out in the rain.

  • Allyson August 1, 2009, 7:51 am

I've always been curious about that tape! That is amazing it works so well. But I still don't get it 🙂

  • whatisforbreakfast August 1, 2009, 8:24 am

Awesome run! I had pizza for dinner after my run too!

  • platipus329 August 1, 2009, 8:31 am

Awesome job on the run! And your pizzeria's pizza looks so good! Most of the local places around here have greasy, pizza parlor "pizza" that's just not good eats.

  • runnerskitchen August 1, 2009, 8:38 am

Congrats on the run! I love kinesio tape – I use the KT brand that the Olympic athletes used in Beijing. Pizza on Fridays is the best 🙂

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point August 1, 2009, 8:40 am

kimberly- i wrap it in a ziploc bag 🙂

  • Lori August 1, 2009, 9:16 am

Neat! How long do you wear the tape for? Is this something you can do on your own?

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point August 1, 2009, 9:23 am

lori – you can do it yourself, but you need a professional to show you how. the tape lasts up to three days (but i took it off).

  • Anonymous August 1, 2009, 1:23 pm

You seem to really like z bars, and have made me want to try one SO bad. Unfortunately they don't seem to sell them in Canada!! I have looked everywhere!! I was in Vegas over weekend and tried to find them there too with no success … where on earth do you get those things!!?? 🙂 Maybe I could order them on line, I should look into that …

    Jolene

  • Lexie August 1, 2009, 1:29 pm

Hey Caitlin…where do you buy the tape? Do they have it at a place like The Sports Authority?

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point August 1, 2009, 1:47 pm

jolene- they have them at my regular grocery store and target!

lexie – i think you'd have to order them online or maybe you could find them at a medical supply store?

  • Jess August 2, 2009, 12:32 pm

    Ummm, I love garlic knots!

Also, that tape is really sweet. I'm going to get some knee sleaves though, I can't keep training for just a 5k with the pain I'm currently experiencing. It's lame and holding me back! Thanks for continuing to share your experiences with us, it's so motovating!
