With a Cherry On Top

in All Posts

Morning!  My banana oatmeal featured my favorite seasonal fruit: cherries!

CIMG5948

Mmm!  Let me tell you, it was a juicy mess to halve a bunch of cherries this morning, but it was well worth it in the end!

My oatmeal contained:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup skim milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Toppings:  cherries, almonds, flax

10 Minute Strength Routine

I am kind of getting obsessed with stretching because I’ve recently recently that a lot of my "knee pain" is really lower quad pain.  I’m sure these two issues are mechanically connected, but I don’t know exactly how… something to ask the doctor about tomorrow!  I stretched out last night before bed and again this morning.  Foam roller, you hurt so good!

I also did:

  • 40 push-ups (I’m trying to move past my usual 30)
  • 100 bicycle crunches
  • 20 reverse crunches
  • 10 V-sit-ups, left leg
  • 10 V-sit-ups, right leg

Whew!

Time to get my booty in gear! Have a nice day.

    CHERRIES!
seriously, I have never ever ever considered adding those to my oatmeal.

    (*skips off to kitchen*)

Great oats addition! I'd do that too… if cherries didn't cost me my life savings for a bag the size of my palm. 🙂

  • Emily June 10, 2009, 4:33 am

    What a nice looking breakfast!

  • Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) June 10, 2009, 4:49 am

I'm seeing cherries all over the blog world, and I drool every time! 😀

I can't wait to pick some up. Your breakfast looks delish!

  • Meganerd June 10, 2009, 4:50 am

    Great idea with the cherries!

Do you do 40 push-ups all in a row or like 4 sets of 10? Just wondering! 🙂

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point June 10, 2009, 4:50 am

megan – i just did 2 sets of 15 and then 1 set of 10. i have to take breaks!!! 🙂

Ooo I love cherries! I never thought about putting them in oatmeal. I have to get some soon and try that! 🙂

  • Lesi June 10, 2009, 5:17 am

I love cherries too! But, yes, they are painfully messy to de-stone 🙁

  • healthymadison June 10, 2009, 5:21 am

That oatmeal looks soooo good! I haven't had cherries since I was 11 years old and went cherry picking with my grandparents. I kinda sorta overdosed on them then and have been disgusted by them BUUUUT you made me crave cherries again. haha thank you!

  • leslie June 10, 2009, 5:22 am

i had cherries in my oatmeal this morning too – so delicious!

have you tried this stretch? http://www.fitsugar.com/1626823

i do this one alllll the time – feels so good!

btw, your post last night was great. you're right, being injured flat out sucks, but you are going to get through it. i'm positive you will attack your rehab program with the same dedication you have to everything else in your life! and sometimes wallowing in self-pity for just a little while really helps. 🙂

    you obviously need this: http://www.amazon.com/Oxo-Good-Grips-Cherry-Pitter/dp/B000NQ925K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1244636593&sr=8-1

Cherry oats are a summer obsession of mine! At least, until the peaches come…

  • megan June 10, 2009, 5:34 am

    Caitlin,

    Mmm ur breakfast looks delish!

And about you being injured it does suck and I think you have been handling it extremely well! Ur allowed to get upset sometimes!

    Keep smiling!

Loving the quick strength sessions – every little stretch, push-up, or crunch really does add up! Great job staying active and keeping your cool while working like a crazy lady!!

  • RhodeyGirl/Sabrina June 10, 2009, 6:13 am

PB had REALLY bad pain in his achilles for a while last year and this holistic therapist told him it was coming from tightness in his calves and hamstrings. now he stretches like a MANIAC and has no pain at all!

    keep on stretching girl!

  • seesaraheat June 10, 2009, 6:15 am

Yay, cherries! They are my favorite too, I got a whole bunch at the store this weekend. Have a great day 🙂

  • Melissa @ For the Love of Health June 10, 2009, 6:25 am

i love cherries – great idea for bfast!

I just wanted to add a note about your post last night. I'm the same way about not being very patient, and not waiting on some things has caused a lot of pain in my life. I try really hard (now) to not rush things that I don't have to. If there is no deadline, it happens when it happens. Often times, things change dramatically regardless of what I do or don't do. God will never give you more than you can handle, but sometimes it does feel like it. Just take it one day at a time – patience is a sucky lesson to learn, but it's worth it 🙂

  • Matt June 10, 2009, 6:29 am

A lot of lower leg pain is interconnected. When it hurt my Achilles, it was because my calves were tight as hell.

  • hemp jogger June 10, 2009, 6:37 am

just caught up w/ yesterday/last evening's post, and it was really interesting to discover how impatient you are. via blog, you seem so laid back and happy-go-lucky…not that you arent! its just nice to read about you guys' faults as well as your amazing attributes. your body WILL heal, and i think you're doing an awesome job of doing what you can. positive attitude-ness is hard! and something i continue to work on myself daily. thanks for you advice each day 🙂

  • Tyler June 10, 2009, 6:44 am

I put cherries in my oatmeal the other day, too…a little messy but worth it! i love your strength routine this morning 🙂

  • Becci June 10, 2009, 6:46 am

Mmm…those cherries look so good! they are so expensive here, I rarely buy them!

  • Carolina John June 10, 2009, 6:46 am

yea baby! we're starting to get some cherries from our cherry tree, but the birds are still getting most of them. so tart, it's fantastic! we're getting tons of fantastic raspberries right now too. yum!

  • recipesforcreativity June 10, 2009, 6:49 am

Ugh, I am nowhere near doing 40 pushups, you go girl!

    Have a good day.

  • Katherine June 10, 2009, 7:09 am

Yay for cherries!! I'm so impressed that you're banging out 40 pushups. I'm just proud that I'm getting through my 30 minute yoga podcast now and surviving the chaturangas! 😛

  • Kelly June 10, 2009, 7:44 am

I really like how you do these quick early morning work outs. I need to get over the idea that if I don't work out for 30 minutes I haven't done anything!

  • april June 10, 2009, 8:19 am

Your breakfast looks pretty! I haven't had any cherries this year yet!

  • K from ksgoodeats June 10, 2009, 8:19 am

I'm so not a cherry girl and it's ironic because Michigan is KNOWN for cherries!

  • Priyanka loves food June 10, 2009, 8:45 am
