Running Hiatus Workout #6

After work, the Husband and I headed to the gym for a workout.  The Husband requested that we make the workout "as quick as possible."  I replied, "Just give me 45 minutes!"  And sprinted to the elliptical! I did:

  • 30 minutes on the elliptical while working (ugh!)

Then, I headed to the mat for some strength moves:

  • 10 walking push-ups
  • 10 plank to push-ups
  • 90 bicycle crunches
  • 20 push-ups
  • 30 old-school crunches
  • 30 reverse crunches
  • 3 sets of 12 reps – bicep curls with 30 lb bar
  • 2 sets of 12 reps – military presses with two 10 lb dumbbells

Whew!  Great workout.  When the Husband and I got back in the car, I turned to him and said, "Do you want to get takeout??" (I guess we were both feeling lazy tonight!).  He said, "Oh honey, I’ll cook if you don’t want to."  I said, "Well, it’s not that I don’t want to COOK, I just don’t want to eat anything in the house."

Thus, we grabbed Thai Take-Out from our fav place!

CIMG4216

I got spicy Garlic Pepper Chicken and ate half.  I also had a spring roll and some white rice.

This was all the rice our meals came with:

And this is an actual serving:

Holy portion size! We’ll be eating rice for days….

I also had a little bit of the Husband’s Beef Pa-ang:

One of my friends is actually vacationing in Thailand right now (I’m so jeals). She’s staying on the beach in a hunt and rock climbing everyday!

My other mid-afternoon snacks included:

CIMG4209

Yogurt and a crushed TLC bar.

CIMG4210

Rice cakes with smear of PB.

Question of the night:  Would you rather take a two week long, all-expense paid, multi-country deluxe vacation to Europe, Asia, South America, or Africa?

  • cocoeatsandcritiques April 22, 2009, 5:51 pm

  • leslie.in.uganda April 22, 2009, 5:58 pm

    Africa!!

  • sara April 22, 2009, 5:58 pm

Caitlin, i’m just curious why you keep titling your posts “Running Hiatus Workout #xx” … i understand where you’re coming from (i’m injured right now so i can’t run either), but it seems to put more emphasis on what you can’t do rather what you can do. just a thought.

and as for the question, i’ll take Africa any day. one country would be fine too … way too much to see.

  • trialsoftraining April 22, 2009, 6:01 pm

Gotta go with Europe – Italy, France, Spain….Love love loooove.

One of my good friends just spent his last semester of College in Thailand and absolutely Loved it. he traveled all over and has some of the most amazing pics. jealoussss too!

  • emlod10 April 22, 2009, 6:02 pm

Asia – it would be so nice to have everything planned out there. India, Thailand, China, and more! The time change would be a killer…i might need more than two weeks 🙂

  • Alison April 22, 2009, 6:02 pm

I’d love to have that kind of trip in Europe. I love Asia too but I’d rather focus an Asian trip on staying with friends and experiencing local culture in depth.

  • Help Meghan Run April 22, 2009, 6:06 pm

Europe for me! 🙂 I really like your idea of TLC bars in yogurt, I think I’ll probably steal it!

I could so go for some Thai right now!

My first instinct would be South America, but there’s lots I’d also love to see in Africa and Asia!

  • livelaughlyss April 22, 2009, 6:09 pm

Europe, no doubt! There are so many places I want to go there though, I don’t think I could hit them all in two weeks!

Sometimes I wonder what restaurants are thinking when they plate up that much rice. It’s borderline ridiculous! Hey, at least you have some handy the next few days to incorporate into meals!

  • Kelly April 22, 2009, 6:10 pm

Totally Africa! That’s my dream travel location.

  • teacherwoman April 22, 2009, 6:10 pm

    Take me to AFRICA!

  • Rose April 22, 2009, 6:22 pm

    Nice dinner 🙂

  • Mrs. LC April 22, 2009, 6:25 pm

    All of the above! 🙂

  • meegie lee April 22, 2009, 6:36 pm

Europe…My husband and I have never been and it just seems the place to indulge 🙂

  • Kristi @ Sweet Cheeks April 22, 2009, 6:41 pm

Europe all the way! I would love to experience everything about their culture first hand!

    YAY for Maggie pics! 😀

  • iowagirleats April 22, 2009, 6:55 pm

Two weeks in Greece and Italy, hands down!

  • Meg April 22, 2009, 6:57 pm

    Love the Maggie pic!

    I would choose Europe.

  • ttfn300 April 22, 2009, 6:58 pm

do you like rice pudding? Mmm 🙂

  • Tyler April 22, 2009, 6:58 pm

good question! i’ve been to europe before, so i think i would choose south america!!!

  • Mara @ What's For Dinner? April 22, 2009, 7:02 pm

SOUTH AMERICA!!!! Being a Spanish teacher, there’s so much that I know a ton about, but have never seen!

  • RhodeyGirl/Sabrina April 22, 2009, 7:05 pm

the answer is easy because i am dying to go to so many countries in south america.

  • Julia April 22, 2009, 7:13 pm

I’d have to say Asia. My fiance got to go to Japan for business about a year ago, and every time he tells me about it, I get very jealous because he got to eat so much fresh sushi, and I love sushi. Also, Thai food is probably my absolute favorite food, so getting the opportunity to eat from a noodle cart in Thailand would be absolutely fantastic!

  • Matt April 22, 2009, 7:16 pm

    Europe for sure!

  • Christina April 22, 2009, 7:48 pm

Europe! Never been and just spent 2 years learning Italian.

  • Amanda April 22, 2009, 8:02 pm

Great question – if only it was a giveaway 🙂

My next go-to place is definitely Europe! I studied abroad in Australia, but I have never been to Europe .. take me to Italyyyy!

Speaking of all of that rice – you should make it into yummy, healthy fried rice (with soy sauce and a fried egg) .. that’s my fav thing to do with leftover white rice!

  • Ari April 22, 2009, 8:08 pm

I’m so happy I won the giveaway! Thanks again. Also, I am dealing with an injury that has stopped my running so I definetly relate to your hiatus. I too was on the elliptical today, it has kept me sane!

  • Erin April 22, 2009, 8:11 pm

Definitely Africa — the other three are easy to travel around and arrange yourself, but Africa is the hardest to plan for.

  • healthy ashley April 22, 2009, 8:13 pm

    Europe!!

    Takeout is so fun 🙂

  • L April 22, 2009, 8:21 pm

AFRICA!! For sure! Specifically East Africa so I can brush up on my Swahili 😉

P.S. your dog is absolutely adorable!! My parents have three dachshunds. They’re the most ridiculous dogs but I love them lol

  • Mica April 22, 2009, 8:25 pm

Asia because the food is best! Though…as a French major, I should probably say Europe…

  • BethAnn Caputo April 22, 2009, 8:29 pm

    South America! Buenos Airesss

  • Jenny April 22, 2009, 9:58 pm

    Probably Europe, but maaayyybe Africa.
I know that you said you aren’t concerned with weight gain, but I thought I would share this anyway. Whenever I get injured I find that I actually lose weight. I think my body has become so efficient with running and so when I switch it up and do xtraining I really burn a lot of calories, more than I anticipate.

Also, I have found that as long as I keep cross training I am able to get back into running with relative ease.

  • Andrea of Care to Eat April 22, 2009, 10:03 pm

South America fo sho – I have a new obsession with Peru 🙂

  • Erica April 23, 2009, 2:52 am

haha- I totally feel that way on certain nights- I’m like I want something different, nothing that is in the pantry! Ummmm I’d rather go to an Island 😉 that is super warm

  • Laura April 23, 2009, 3:26 am

Ah I’m currently studying abroad in Sydney and just got back from a 9 day spring break to Thailand! It was the most incredible vacation of my life! I am going from Thai food withdraw right now, but hopefully I will be able to get over it soon 🙂

But I think I would take the vacation to Africa. It’s always been such an intriguing place for me – I’d love to go on a safari!

  • nibblesandwiggles April 23, 2009, 6:08 am

Probably Asia – My husband and I went to Japan a couple years ago and fell in love. We would love to go back.

  • Leila April 23, 2009, 7:03 am

I would totally choose Africa. I’ve been dying to go to Egypt and have always wanted to go on an African safari!

  • Amisha April 23, 2009, 7:32 am

South America for sure! I want to practice my Spanish there.

  • elissa April 23, 2009, 7:33 am

Hmmm, that’s a though one because I’d love to hit up Europe with great wine, cheese and pasta but Thai food is my absolute favorite so Asia would be high up on the list as well!

  • Bridget April 23, 2009, 8:18 am

Living in Asia is THE best experience of my life, and returning to the states will be hard. I’m planning to visit more of Asia before I come home. However, I guess that I am flexible and would go almost anywhere. However, Greece is at the top of the list!

  • Jordan April 23, 2009, 9:18 am

Europe. Because I’ve already been and I’ve been yearning to go back !
