To Do’s

in All Posts

Today has been busy, busy, busy!  And I’ve been hungry all morning — must’ve been Level 3 of the Shred.  I don’t like to try to "eat back" my calories first thing in the morning because I tend to get snackier as the day wears on.  So, I foresee a big mid-afternoon snackaroo in my future!

I actually broke into my lunch at 10:30!  I separated lunch into two  mini-meals to get the most mileage out of it.

Around 10:30, I ate a side salad.

And at 11:30, I had the "entree" of lunch, which included 1 cup of Creamy Tomato Soup and a slice of WW bread with melty cheese.

I’ll Stop The World and Melt With You…. ooo weee oooo!

Wolfgang’s Creamy Tomato soup is probably one of the only soups that I don’t eat 1 can as a serving (1 can = 2 servings really) because each cup has 240 calories.  It is sooo thick and delicious that 1 cup actually satisfies me!

To Do’s

After I graduated college, I nixed the day planner and now rely on my Microsoft Outlook to keep me organized for work.  I also made To Do lists every other morning and cross personal/blog things off as a I go.

I tend to list stuff like "blog," "shower," and "eat dinner" so I can cross them off and feel accomplished.  I also like to list stuff in order so I can plan my day more efficiently.

Today’s To Do list includes:

  • Wake Up
  • Shred
  • Breakfast and Blog
  • Blogger Flyer (a super awesome blogger alliance surprise in the works…)
  • Work
  • Lunch and Blog
  • Run 5.0 miles
  • Finish Thank You Cards
  • Dinner and Blog
  • Shredder Newsletter
  • Work for the Holistic Website
  • Sleep

Between work, the blog, and the website, my life is getting really busy lately and I feel like I need to go back to the daily planner.  I’m ending up with post-it notes and lists all over my desk, and the disorganization is killing me!

How do you stay organized?

Love how you broke out in song while describing the melty cheese, haha 😀

I LIVE by my to-do lists!!

  • therunningaddict March 24, 2009, 9:04 am

That is a hard question Caitlin!
I like having things written down on a piece of paper, and then I have my iPhone to remind me of appointments!
I do consider myself pretty organized though 😉

  • brandi March 24, 2009, 9:04 am

i have lists like that for everything. I even write down “pack lunch” each night so I can cross something off 🙂

  • d.a.r. March 24, 2009, 9:05 am

I am a big day planner fan. And I have a huge desk calendar as well. And I usually end up with post it notes on both the calendar and my planner! But, if I don’t write it down, it gets lost in my brain! 🙂

  • Rose March 24, 2009, 9:06 am

    Great question!

I went to an organization seminar a few weeks ago, and he suggested keeping your work and personal calendar together in one place. I know some people don’t like that, but I have actually found that by separating with them with tabs – I never lose track of anything now. And if I’m at work and have a personal thought, I just jot it down in the right section. It really works well for me.

  • Tina March 24, 2009, 9:10 am

I am a crazy list maker. I have a planner that I write EVERYTHING down in. I really want an iPhone, but I am worried about making the switch to non-paper To Do lists.

  • Bec March 24, 2009, 9:12 am

I am in love with my agenda which is full of sticky notes with to-do lists on them! Plus I keep a word document running with long-term to do lists!

  • itsawrapteacher March 24, 2009, 9:12 am

I am supa-organized! I have post-its for my post-its! I like to keep a daily planner with me at all times and a HUGE desk calendar for long term plans.

  • Shannon March 24, 2009, 9:12 am

I have a planner. Love it!

  • Krista March 24, 2009, 9:14 am

I am SUCH a list girl! Keeps my mind in order!

  • FoodsThatFit March 24, 2009, 9:15 am

I am a huge list maker and love the feeling of crossing things off 🙂

    I have little post-its everywhere!

Any chance you are a Virgo? I was actually making a list at work the other day and someone was like “you must be a virgo…” I guess that is one of their typical qualities??

  • ksgoodeats March 24, 2009, 9:15 am

    Mmmmm cheeeeeeeese!

I ALWAYS have to-do lists and I include things just to cross them off as well – makes me feel accomplished 🙂

  • redheadedjournal March 24, 2009, 9:17 am

Best thing about to do lists = crossing stuff off 🙂

  • sloank March 24, 2009, 9:22 am

I use a day planner, post-its and many to-do lists. I often make lists for myself while sitting in class! I just can’t escape paper… I’m worried about making the transition to technology and away from my pens, post-its and notebook lists…

  • Victoria March 24, 2009, 9:27 am

I’m obsessed with my color coded google calendar, but I too am feeling super busy lately and I think I need something portable, so I may be going back to my old school planner as well.

  • ~cb~ March 24, 2009, 9:30 am

Several years ago I had a training through my company, Steven Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. I have been a Franklin Planner girl ever since. They also have some really cute patterns and leather binders.

  • balanceisbest March 24, 2009, 9:32 am

I am obsessed with my planner. I tried to go digital with my to-do lists on my computer & iphone, but I think that the act of writing it down makes it stick. I use a "moleskin" day planner because it's sleek and lightweight – I carry it in my purse every day. And yes, I am a virgo. 🙂

Good luck with today's to-dos! You are a busy girl, but I'm sure you'll get it done.

Just curious, when you blog after breakfast, lunch and dinner does it take you ages?

I find to blog my own, then visit all the blogs that I can before I know it an hour is gone and I can start to fall behind on other things.

I’m wondering what your ‘blogging technique’ is to be able to do it 3x a day… do you visit many other blogs? Not sure how you have time! Life gets busy sometimes doesn’t it!!

    Leah

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point March 24, 2009, 9:38 am

Leah – I blog while eating and I plan out what I’m going to say beforehand so I just write it all out. I’m a writer for a living so I can pretty much spill out the words. I do read blogs, but I don’t do much commenting because that takes a load of time. I used Google Reader to help me keep up with the blogs I love (like yours). 🙂

  • ML Welz March 24, 2009, 9:42 am

    Franklin Covey planner…. weekly/monthly pages… GREAT for list-makers 🙂

  • Mica March 24, 2009, 9:45 am

I’m glad you were able to cross “Wake Up” off your to-do list today! I would have been concerned if you didn’t wake up, dear Caitlin!

I do the same thing though for my to-do lists, like “Check e-mail, Eat, Blog”. It’s very satisfying to check things off!

  • Andrea of Care to Eat March 24, 2009, 9:46 am

Ok. You inspired me again. Just this morning I was thinking that I need to plan out every hour of my day in my iCal so that I don’t talk myself out of going to the gym “because I don’t have time.” I live by what my iPhone tells me to do, so if my iPhone says “Go to bed!” I’ll be more likely to do it than stay up til midnight 🙂

  • Sarah March 24, 2009, 9:48 am

I LOVE crossing things off my list! I stay organized with my WhoMi (www.whomi.com) calendar… it has different lines that are designated for different areas of life. 🙂 Also, bless the person that invented Post-its!

  • RhodeyGirl/Sabrina March 24, 2009, 9:52 am

Caitlin, one of those items on your to do list gives me the shivers…

    “write thank you cards”

I am so bad at them because I want to really take the time to write to each person… and therefore they take me forever!

  • Mara @ What's For Dinner? March 24, 2009, 10:14 am

I’m actually NOT a list person and almost wish i was…

  • Runeatrepeat March 24, 2009, 10:16 am

I am pretty disorganized right now, but I try to write To-Do lists all the time. I need to get it together because I have so many wedding tasks to accomplish & it's just stressing me out!

  • mel March 24, 2009, 10:20 am

Hey Caitlin! I love your eats today! I have a question about shred- I just started doing it and the days I do it, it is usually my workout. Do you also run when you do it b/c you feel like it is not a good enough workout, or what? Just wondering! Thank You!
    mel

  • Matt March 24, 2009, 10:26 am

I stay organized in my head! I guess that’s why I am so forgetful… Haha.

  • Brittney March 24, 2009, 10:32 am

I tend to make lists when I feel the need to get organized. I also like including stuff on my lists that I’ve already done just so I can cross it off and feel accomplished 🙂

Good luck with getting your list done today!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point March 24, 2009, 10:32 am

mel – well i think the 30 day shred is a pretty good stand-alone workout, but i usually run in conjunction with the shred because im doing a 15 mile race on april 11 and it definitely doesnt replace a 5 mile training run. 🙂

  • danielle March 24, 2009, 10:48 am

I’m a big list maker! If i don’t have a to do list I feel lost.
Sometimes I’ll put stuff on their I already did just so that if someone asks me if I worked on that project I can see it crossed off, plus it’s always fun to cross things off right away.

  • Amanda March 24, 2009, 10:54 am

I definitely am a big list maker. I have an agenda which I use to write EVERYTHING. I usually end up with post-its too .. everything from grocery lists, to movies I want to see, to directions, etc etc… I don’t think the electronic format would really do it for me! I REALLY need to start putting “sleep” on my list – maybe if I prioritize it, I will go to bed earlier!!

  • Betsy March 24, 2009, 10:56 am

I’m a list-er too. I have trouble going to bed if I haven’t crossed off at least half of my to-do’s!

  • Katie March 24, 2009, 11:15 am

I LIVE out of my Franklin Covey planner. It has spaces each day for “to dos,” appointments/phone calls and notes. I feel so naked if it’s not with me at all times. I’m a list maker by nature and, like you, I write down the obvious just so I can cross them off.

This Blogger Flyer sounds extra interesting. Can’t wait to read more!

  • Colleen March 24, 2009, 11:21 am

I actually have “done” lists…which is probably why I don’t get half my stuff done – I don’t remember it! But anytime I finish something, that goes on my calendar…I guess it’s like a very-condensed diary of sorts, and only the things that I think are important to remember. “Ran 4 miles, Shred, made new burrito recipe” LOL

  • Anne P March 24, 2009, 12:05 pm

is it just me or does your cheese look like a little man if you tilt your head to the left??

i’m also a list person… i make little boxes next to everything and checking the box is so satisfying! 😉

  • Bi0nicw0man March 24, 2009, 12:57 pm

haha, I love that you put “wake-up” on there. I often list “make to-do list” as my first item.

To-Do lists are my saving grace. I rarely forget to do important things, but regularly put off small things because they slip my mind.

I don’t care what anyone says…technology doesn’t always cut it (I also use Outlook for work). I do much better with my list in black and white and printed out so I can scratch things off manually as I go.

  • Kath March 24, 2009, 1:10 pm

Looks like you’re not going to shower today, huh 😉

  • Natalie Rae March 24, 2009, 1:15 pm

    I still use a planner 🙂
I have to! I have on my desk at work, and then I have it in my purse or the car when I am out.

    I also use post-it’s and to-do lists.

  • Lisa D. March 24, 2009, 1:36 pm

I am pretty sure you do not need organization tip(at least from the likes of me) but I am all about the daily planner and my white board. I also use to-do lists and of course add things on like eat and sleep to cross them off because it is the most fun part of the list

  • Melissa March 24, 2009, 1:59 pm

    Mmmm melty cheese.

To-do lists: Mostly its just all in my head. For work it is usually emails in my inbox or tasks.

  • jewels March 24, 2009, 2:57 pm

i use a planner and then make daily to do lists based on what my planner has for the week

  • Siobhan March 24, 2009, 3:03 pm

I make a to-do list every night before I go to bed. And whenever I’m bored in class I’ll make a list of what I’m going to do after! Makes it look like I’m taking notes…

    ps. I’m a virgo!

  • livelovelaugheatlearn March 24, 2009, 3:16 pm

I love the melty cheese, music quote. Cute.

I use a day planner. love it. Keeps everything organized. I usually make a daily to do list though that goes in front of my computer though.

  • Rachel March 24, 2009, 3:49 pm

I use my icalender on my macbook to keep me organized. I used to use a planner, but now that I’ve made the switch it is soo much better! I also make to-do lists all the time!

  • Run Saraaah March 24, 2009, 4:31 pm

    Sounds so busy!

I have to-do lists too, usually scraps or post-its. I also add some stuff to my iPhone using an alarm reminder.

  • Meg March 24, 2009, 5:47 pm

Melty cheese and tomato soup is the best combination!

  • emily March 24, 2009, 6:06 pm

I would die without my day planner, but I also make lists!

  • Oh She Glows March 24, 2009, 8:40 pm

Blogger flyer? That sounds FUN! Email me about it 🙂

  • ChickPea March 24, 2009, 9:14 pm

Haha, I do the EXACT same thing–I’ll put “wake up” on my list, just so I can cross SOMETHING off.

  • jesslikesithot March 24, 2009, 11:21 pm

I always use the “post-it” application on my mac laptop to stay organized + I always put everything in my phone calendar as well!! hahaha ahh
