Social Success!

in All Posts

THANK YOU – you guys gave me a HUGE dose of social courage, and I ended up having a great time at the meet-up tonight. 🙂

But first… I had to get through work.  I ate a tiny bowl of Grape Nuts around 4:00 PM.

After work, I rushed around to get ready for the girls’ meet-up.  One thing I have trouble with is putting on about 1 million outfits and then settling on the first one!  So, I swore I was not going to do that tonight because I didn’t want to be late (Meghann can attest to my lateness).

I got to the restaurant about 10 minutes early.  Taking your advice, I had some "liquid courage" in the form of Amber Bock.

Soon enough, the girl I know from the running club + there other ladies showed up.  Everyone was really nice and the conversation felt natural!

I had 1 more beer and ordered the Cuban Sandwich + a side salad.   The sandwich was huge, and I think nerves got the best of my appetite, so I only ate 1/2.

Have you heard of this great website called www.MeetUp.com?

Meetup

MeetUp has social groups in EVERY city, and there are TON in Orlando that cater towards mid-twenties to mid-thirties that I never even knew existed.  All of these girls are from the same group (called Sex in the City) and they do fun things like Bingo night, Wig Out at the bars, and brunches.  I’m going to join that, too! 🙂

For everyone who said they needed a little extra SOCIAL COURAGE in their lives, check out MeetUp.com!  I hope you find a group to join!

After 2.5 hours of GABBING, I came home and ate 3 Cadbury squares…. and now I’m ready for bed!

GOODNIGHT!

That’s awesome that you went out. I am totally the same way. The anticipation of going out is usually what kills me from doing it..but once I am there I am fine.

I came across your blog on Jenna’s blog. I am super excited to find and it and track through your posts.

    Happy socilaising! Michelle

p.s. the green smoothie looked amazing. I have gotten into those as well. Have you used lettuce before? It’s good as well.

That’s great that you had a good time! I would love to find a social group to meet some new people. I’m lucky that I grew up here, so I have all my high school friends, but it would be nice to meet new people with my interests.

  • RunToFinish March 11, 2009, 5:41 am

I have checked out that site but it’s not yet as popular here in the midwest..hopefully soon!

  • Lisa D. March 11, 2009, 6:28 am

Yay for making new friends! You’re a social inspiration!

  • haya March 11, 2009, 8:29 am

    sounds great!

i found meetup years ago and joined some groups but had a similar freakout to your when i actually showed up to an event.

i rediscovered meetup last fall and joined a couple foodie type groups. i’ve been to a bunch of events organized by the locavore club in my city and the people were pretty awesome. i just had to be a little brave the first time but after that it was easy. most groups seem to organize weekend events though and since i’m in kind of a long distance relationship right now and i spend weekends with my boyfriend, i can’t always make it out.
