Work Vs. Caitlin (Round 2)

in All Posts

I am officially in love with another man:  Bear Grylls.  Seriously, read his wikipedia entry and you will fall in LURVE with this man!

Work vs. Caitlin – Round II

There was another battle of work against run tonight.  I worked a looong shift and was so tired.  My training program called for a 6.0  miler, but I knew I’d never make it.  So, I settled for another 5K sprint through my neighborhood.

I’m really trying to drop the "all or nothing" attitude.  Something is better than nothing, right? 🙂

Here are my statistics:

  • Duration: 28 minutes (3.1 miles)
  • Calories Burned: 240

Today’s Eats!

Sorry no posting — I was sooo busy at work!  But, here’s the day’s eats.

Breakfast was banana oatmeal, Grape Nuts, strawberries, and blueberries.

CIMG2130

Mid-morning snack was Fiber 1 + Chobani yogurt.

CIMG2132

Lunch included….  A WW sammie with deli turkey meat, spinach, and roasted red pepper hummus.

CIMG2133

+ a plum.

CIMG2143

+ a handful of almonds.

CIMG2142

First mid-afternoon snack #1… crackers and more hummus!

CIMG2149

Another mid-afternoon snack #2…. MORE Fiber 1 and yogurt! All together I probably had 1 serving of yogurt.

CIMG2146

After my run… it was dinnertime!  We started with side salads

CIMG2157

And organic chicken sausage (roasted red pepper flavor) ‘hot dogs" on a WW bun with mustard and ketchup. MMM!

CIMG2158

+ an Orange (like a real fruit, not a chocolate one!!) and 4 Hershey’s Kisses for dessert. 🙂

…. And here’s the daily Maggie photo.

ooohh….I HATE Bear with such a fiery passion! My Discovery Channel survivor-show heart belongs to Les Stroud & the now defunct Survivorman (he doesn't use a camera crew)!

I also really struggle with the 'all or nothing' mentality & have to remind myself that if all I can do is 30 minutes on the elliptical, that's better than nothing!

  • VeggieGirl February 18, 2009, 6:54 pm

    Aww Maggie 🙂

  • Kelly February 18, 2009, 7:01 pm

It seems like with your new work schedule that you might not be able to get in your longer runs after work. Is it possible for you to run before work in the morning? Good luck and definitely something is better than nothing. Maggie is so cute.

I love Bear! His accent makes my heart melt!

Hi there Maggie Bean! 🙂 I love her face – she’s thinking “MOM – I’m try to chillax, why you gotta take my picture?” 🙂

  • Colleen February 18, 2009, 7:04 pm

    Maggie makes my heart melt!

  • Matt February 18, 2009, 7:16 pm

Have you thought about waking up early to run before work? I wake up around 5:30 or 6 to run before class!

  • Sharon February 18, 2009, 7:19 pm

Aww! Thanks for all the Maggie photos- she’s a cutie pie!

Yay for running! I tend to have an all or nothing attitude a lot of the time. I feel like I need to do what I scheduled and if I don’t, then why bother. I really need to work on this! You should be SO proud of yourself for getting a run in with your extremely busy schedule- you ROCK!!

Great eats (as usual!) Have a great and relaxing night 🙂

I’ll explain why AM workouts are a no go tomorrow morning 🙂

We watch Bear every weekend, and yes, I'm in love with him too! He's like a cross between Christian Bale & Liev Schreiber.

Except some of the things he eats… I don't know how his wife can kiss him afterward. My fave so far: gutting a snake, tying off the end of the skin, peeing in it, and then drinking out of it. Who does that! He drinks his urine far more than I care for, but he's still hot. 🙂

  • Brandi February 18, 2009, 7:32 pm

I like his show, but he’s been really gross lately. Like eating a sheep’s heart? blech.

Good job running! Yes, something is better than nothing 🙂

I can’t believe that man’s name is Bear.

I also can’t believe how adorable Maggie is…IN EVERY PHOTO!

  • Meg February 18, 2009, 7:38 pm

Maggie is so cute! Dinner looks yummy!

  • talesofexpansion February 18, 2009, 7:43 pm

congrats on kicking the all or nothing ‘tude. 5k is awesome, especially when you would have preferred 0k!

  • Sarah February 18, 2009, 7:44 pm

I saw Bear kill a sheep, cut it open, remove its heart, and take a bite. He commented how it was still warm…and there was oozing blood involved. Not hott. He also recently ate a nut that he found in a pile of black bear poop. Also not hott.

  • The Healthy Hostess February 18, 2009, 7:45 pm

I love Bear! So adorable!! Great sandwich and good job getting the workout in!
    🙂

  • Annie February 18, 2009, 8:13 pm

bear grylls is sooo dreamy!! i love him!

  • Jennifer February 18, 2009, 8:29 pm

I love your blog and you are such an inspiration. I hope you dont mind if I follow your progress

  • Adi February 18, 2009, 8:33 pm

Just remember that most people wouldn’t even be able to run 5k at all, let alone in the amazing times you run them! That definitely qualifies as *something* to me!

  • HangryPants February 18, 2009, 8:34 pm

Could you try running during lunch. I know you work from home so would it be cool to take a little longer for lunch and then work a little later?

  • jane February 18, 2009, 8:41 pm

oh i totally agree with you about the all or nothing thing- 3 miles is better than none, girl!
plus, you’ve been doing so well with your training that you will be just fine 🙂
and by the way, i like survivorman better cause he doesn’t cheat. bear has been “outed” cause he actually isn’t by himself like he says! but yes, he is hot, and also hard core (he drinks his own pee!!)

  • Andrea of Care to Eat February 18, 2009, 8:45 pm

Aw man – the hubbs makes me watch that show. He is quite handsome, but the whole time I’m watching the show, I’m like “calm down dude!”
Your doggies are adorable. Kudos to getting in some form of exercise today!

  • alessa February 18, 2009, 9:04 pm

sounds like you have been working your booty off! i used to have the same issue with work and working out, when i was working longer hours. its no fun, but good for you for still getting out there! 3 miles is definitely better than nothing!

  • foodsthatfit February 18, 2009, 9:52 pm

Have you seen the episode where he takes a bite out of a live fish? So gross!

  • Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) February 18, 2009, 10:29 pm

LOL Bear named one of his kids Huckleberry? hilarious!

  • Sarah (lovINmytummy) February 18, 2009, 11:33 pm

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, if Hal Higdon comes knocking on your door to call you out, you can take him.

I’ve figured out that if I run the
distance I feel like, when I feel like, I can still meet my weekly mile quota. Plus, I don’t feel like such a wussy and that Hal can just tell me what to do.

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point February 19, 2009, 4:16 am

hahaa you guys are so funny. bear DOES eat a lot of weird things. im not saying id want to kiss him following these incidents, but whatev!

twobooswhoeat – hahah yes i saw his kids’ names. they are all weird!!

jane – haha i know bear “cheats.” but the best part of every episode is when he gets half naked “for survival purposes” so i can excuse his cheating.

  • sarahdbelle February 19, 2009, 8:08 am

I love Bear, too! Yes, he eats some of the most disgusting foods ever, but he is hilarious and really tough.

No offense to any of the Les Stroud lovers, but I like him so much better. All Les does is sit around and eat while Bear is always on an adventure ; )
