Dessert for Me & for the Dogs

Ohmygosh — dinner was so nice!

But first…. a mid-afternoon latte that Huz made in the espresso machine.  Work was very productive today!  It was probably the multiple servings of caffeine (this was my THIRD coffee).

Cross-Training

The gym was very quick… and yet strangely relaxing.  It was a great workout for a cross-training day!

I did 30 minutes on the elliptical; I pedaled backwards for about 10 minutes as well!  Does that work different muscles, or just the same muscles in a different way?  Anyone?

I read this book on the elliptical.  It’s called "Tell It Slant" and it’s about creative nonfiction.  It’s a leftover from college.  Chapter 1 was interesting….

After the elliptical, it was weight time.  I always do arms on Monday, because that’s always my c ross training day! :)  Today I decide to add 10 lbs. of weight to my bicep curls and tricep pulldowns.  Realizing that it was not challenging anymore, I figured why not?  But I could only do the new weights for 2 reps.

  • Bicep Curls with weighed bar – 12 reps x 2 sets at 40 lbs; another 12 reps at 30 lbs.
  • Tricep Pulldowns on cable row – 12 reps x 2 sets at 40 lbs; another 12 at 30 lbs.

I also some dual pulley rows with 45 lbs. as well, and about 90 crunches. Whew!  Easier than a long run. 🙂

Dinner!

As I mentioned, dinner was so delicious.  I am LOVING the George Foreman that we got for the wedding.

CIMG1560

I grilled chicken breast that I marinated in EVOO, water, pineapple juice, and pepper.  After cooking it 90%, I added pineapple rings to the top and poured back over some of the juices.  MMMM!

We also had a yummy salad with sun-dried tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, and this dressing:

On the side, I had some brown rice.

CIMG1564

The pineapple was DIVINE.  Ohmigod — definitely going to do this again!

CIMG1566
Dessert for me:  dried apricots.

CIMG1568

Desert for the dogs:  Ice cream for Puppies!

They looooved it! 🙂

Goodnight… sleep tight!

One time, my dad ate one of the doggie ice creams because he thought it was real ice cream. It definitely did not taste like real ice cream!

Hey, I love my George Forman.
About pedaling backwards on an elliptical a friend from college told me it works your hamstring muscles more than when you go forward, but be careful because she also told me if you do it too much it can be bad for your knees!

  • Meg February 2, 2009, 7:45 pm

My dogs would love those treats! Your dinner looks awesome!

  • Megan February 2, 2009, 7:46 pm

I wouldn’t mention something like this usually, but it’s one of my biggest pet peeves ever…
On your quote taped to your computer, you need to replace “your” with “you’re.”
I mean, if you’re looking at it everyday, you might as well look at something grammatically correct.

    Sorry I’m OCD.

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point February 2, 2009, 8:14 pm

Keiko – Well, actually “If you find your here and now” is correct. You’re = You Are. “if you find you are here and now” isn’t correct.

i feel the same way about “there” and “their”!

At the gym, my elliptical has a muscle chart, and I know you work different muscles when adjusting the ramp. The “cross-training” workout always has me go backwards for about a 1/3 of the time, and so I’m assuming it works the muscles in a different way due to the change in motion. Sounds like you got in a good workout!

I love my George – don’t know what I did without it!

  • Cassandra February 2, 2009, 9:00 pm

doggie dessert how sweet! love dried apricots! What a neat idea to grill the pinapple!

  • Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) February 2, 2009, 9:00 pm

ha I accidently commented on the wrong post. I read that book for my narrative writing class recently. How fun!

    MMM pineapple looks great.

  • inmytummy February 2, 2009, 9:17 pm

My puppy loves that ice cream (although I haven’t seen that particular brand) Only problem is that he likes to eat the cup afterwards!

  • emily February 2, 2009, 9:42 pm

grilled pineapple is my favorite! how is the creative writing book? I’ve read about it, but never flipped through it.

  • sweetandfit February 2, 2009, 9:49 pm

I love my george forman too! I never tired grilling pineapple though – it looks realllly good! I have a recipe for frozen doggie treats if you like – it saves me a lot of money on doggy ice-cream

  • Mica February 2, 2009, 9:54 pm

OOoh, that pineapple looks so good. I can’t believe I didn’t think of that with my Foreman. I’m going to try it ASAP!

    Ice cream for dogs, hilarious!

  • Meredith (Pursuing Balance) February 2, 2009, 10:04 pm

Uh oh…I spy a new salad dressing to add to my ever growing collection!

  • Sarah (lovINmytummy) February 2, 2009, 11:35 pm

Doing the elliptical backwards works DIFFERENT muscles.

Okay, really I don’t know, but neither do you, so you won’t know the difference.

    It works DIFFERENT muscles.

And Caitlin, you could speak complete gibberish and I’d still read YOUR/YOU’RE blog =)

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point February 3, 2009, 5:28 am

emily – i dont think i actually did any of my assignments in college, but so far the book sounds good 🙂 its basically the 1st time i’ve read it!

sweet and fit – pleeeeeeeeeeeeease share the recipe!

    lovINmytummy- lol

  • D10 February 3, 2009, 5:43 am

The ice cream for dogs is so cute!

  • jenn February 3, 2009, 7:39 am

i know that walking or jogging backwards works your quads differently than when you go forward. it also helps lengthen your stride, but not sure if thats the same for the elliptical. walking backward on the treadmill on an incline does wonders for your butt.

  • lauren February 3, 2009, 8:08 am

the coffee looks incredible. I want one now! I love the ice cream for dogs. I have some in the freezer for oscar too.
