Painting the Bedroom

in All Posts

After my 10-mile run, I laid around the apartment and snacked on some mini candies.

And later, some cheese and crackers.

Around 3 PM, I was suddenly struck by the urge to PAINT.  As I mentioned a few days ago, we are about to re-design the bedroom to make it more "romantic."  The first step is PAINTING!

Before, our bedroom kind of looked like a sloppy college bedroom with mismatched furniture.

We headed to Lowe’s and picked out a lovely shade of blue-gray called Dainty Blue.

CIMG1260

I did the majority of the painting, since this was "my project."

CIMG1261

About halfway through, Husband brought me a lovely dinner.

CIMG1265

He made fish marinated in onions and tomatoes, brown rice, and steamed broc.  It was quite wonderful!

CIMG1266

For dessert, I had the last biscotti.  Between painting a bedroom and running 10 miles, I was freaking starving!

CIMG1267

I’m not going to lie, I got a little tipsy while painting.  I had a big old glass wine. :)

CIMG1262

Hahah, so much paint in my hair… on my shirt… on my legs… on my face….

Now, our bedroom is a dreamy shade of blue.  Let the decorating begin!

Yayyy! It was quite a task (took me like 3 hours), but it looks divine!

Now I want (aka need to convince Husband) a new bed and a triple dresser, as well as two large frame paintings.  We’re also going to mount the TV over the smaller dresser.

I had two pieces of toast with jam when the task was done!

What’s your decorating style like?  I’m trying to develop one that is funky and modern but classic at the same time.  🙂

Wow I’m totally impressed, all that in one day! Love the blue!

And what’s housework without some wine involved?

  • Laura January 25, 2009, 8:31 pm

You are very talented! It looks great!

I generally love traditional furnishings, but sometimes with a funky twist. There was a $7000 couch I drooled over in Williamsburg last year. It was a colonial reproduction upholstered in hot pink damask, and they had it paired with two chairs upholstered in a black and white pattern. I wanted it!

Looks great! I love that color. 🙂

what a gorgeous shade of blue; your bedroom is going to look great!

    I can’t believe you painted your bedroom in 3 hours b yourself…after a 10 mile run! I am with jenngirl…so impressed!

in terms of my decorating style, I really like the beach lifestyle, so I love soft colors, various shades of blue and green, and white furniture with lots of comfy pillows

Such a cute new color! Umm, I don’t think we have a decorating style. I just pick out things that make me happy. However – our (my) kitchen, I love. It’s bright yellow with orange, red and pink accents. So cheerful. Our whole house is pretty colorful.

Wow, I can’t believe you got that all painted in one day. (Obviously, it helps to have such a nice hubby!)

    Great job, Caitlin. Woo Woo!

That’s amazing you did that all so fast! I love the color, it makes your cute white furniture pop!

So pretty!! My decorating style = anthropologie. Antiquey/modern/French/cottage style.

    I love the new color!

  • Anne P January 25, 2009, 10:49 pm

ooooooo i LOVE the bedroom color!! so pretty! i’m impressed you did that on your own 🙂

  • shawna January 25, 2009, 10:53 pm

You are so PRODUCTIVE! Ten miles and painting an entire room in one day? The only painting I’ve done is paint my bedroom way back when, and that took my mother and me two or three days. I’m impressed–and I love the color! It’s beautiful and it makes everything in the room stand out.

My decorating style? Well, I live in a dorm at the moment, so all I’ve got going on is pink sheets 🙂

  • Katherine January 25, 2009, 11:46 pm

Is there any other way to paint??? Glad you recognized that wine is a must while painting! It looks beautiful!

  • sarah January 26, 2009, 3:24 am

that looks fantastic — i LOVE the color (and the name cracks me up!). i’m so impressed that you did it all yourself, too.

  • Jen January 26, 2009, 3:47 am

I LOVE the blue! What a fun Sunday project! I hope you can convince the hubby on the furniture….you know…they do have those no interest deals at a lot of places for 2 years. just hinting that 😉

As for my style (and thankfully my husbands too) totally traditional european/southern/french mix 🙂

  • Trust, Hope, Believe January 26, 2009, 4:09 am

your room looks so good! It really looks like a professional did it 😉

  • Heather McD (Heather Eats Almond Butter) January 26, 2009, 4:30 am

10 miles and painting the entire bedroom. Wow, I’m worn out just reading about it. I love the blue. I’m working on my husband for a new bed as well – good luck. My taste is pretty classic and simple – not a lot of clutter.

Looks great! I am a terrible decorater. I need your help 😉 Have a good Monday

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point January 26, 2009, 5:11 am

i much admit that the only reason i could accomplish that in 3 hours is that it only required 1 coat of paint! LOL.

    thanks, ladies.

  • Meghann January 26, 2009, 5:35 am

Way to go on painting! After painting my bedroom in my apartment last year and having to repaint it back to white when I moved out a year later, I told myself I would never paint a room in an apartment again. 🙂

  • ashley (sweetandnatural) January 26, 2009, 6:10 am

Pretty color! I hate painting rooms, but I love to have them painted. If I could decorate my apartment in any way, I’d make it look like an Anthropologie store. LOVE that eclectic, vintage, comfy look.

  • HangryPants January 26, 2009, 6:32 am

Pretty color and great work on the paint job!

My decorating style … if I could I would live in an anthropologie store. Alas, it is too pricey, so I try to do various rip-offs of that.

  • Sarah W. January 26, 2009, 6:41 am

    yay love the color blue!

how did your painting job only take 3 hours? you’re supposed to do 2 coats! and they gotta dry like many hours in between coats!

I love how you got paint alll over yourself!!

i dont have a decorating style – yet because we are still renting! but i looove our bedroom furniture (brown) and our bedspread (brown/gold/red) so our room is going to be SEXY when I decide what color the walls would be once we have perm housing

  • girlrunningaround January 26, 2009, 7:09 am

I love your bedroom color! Right now our bedroom is black and white. Once we get into our new house I’m painting our room blue as well. I think a nice sky blue color will look great with our black furniture and white accent items. I’m so pumped to be able to paint!

  • Amanda January 26, 2009, 7:18 am

WOW – I am impressed with the paint job!!

I live in a tiny studio apt. by myself and basically told myself this may be my last time living without my boyfriend so I was allowed to decorate how I wanted! I pretty much meshed Anthropologie style and the move Mamma Mia – bright, fun colors!

The wall behind my bed is pink and my little kitchen is bright yellow! I got stuff from the Shabby chic line at Target – I love it!!

  • brandi January 26, 2009, 7:28 am

    I love that color!

And that picture of you two on the blue wall is awesome

  • RhodeyGirl/Sabrina January 26, 2009, 2:10 pm

Love the color darling! Did you make a mess at all on the moldings? i have a terrible time keeping those clean!
