Puppies, Swimming, and Washing

in All Posts

Good afternoon!  Future Husband and I spent some time with the wee ones this morning at the dog park.

That’s Margaret Britney Spears Thatcher and me…. And here’s James Bond next to a ginormous greyhound….

We played a football while the dogs romped around.  However, after about 20 minutes of playing, Future Husband missed a catch and the ball went straight into a pile of poo. Which Future Husband touched without realizing…. EW!

So…. all the sudden, we heard this terrible dog fight breaking out and we look over to see five or six big dogs are attacking a small dog (like a 5 lb toy poodle)!  The worst part is that all the big dog owners are just staring with their mouths wide open as their dogs gang up on this little pup!  Future Husband and I LEPT over the chain link fence and SPRINTED to the little dog. I jumped in between the fight and scooped him up.  I don’t understand why people get this "mob mentality" and just stand around when something bad is happening! Poor little guy!! (He seemed OK, and his stupid owner took him out of the big dog pen).

Other cuties at the park….

After the park, we split a Clif Bar

This was the best of the seasonal flavors so far!

And then we hit the gym.  Since my knee is bothering me, I decided to swim and water jog (here’s my video explanation of water jogging).

I stick a noodle around my stomach because I’m not a very good swimmer.  It looks pretty silly, but it allows me to swim for a much, much longer time than I would be able to otherwise.  I did 0.5 mile (or 32 lengths of my gym pool) in about 30 minutesI also water jogged for another 5 minutes.

When we got home, I didn’t even bother to shower because my dirty Honda Civic desperately needs a bath.  I grabbed a PB on WW before doing the car….

And I came back in for a "lunch."  We are low on food (Future Hus is at the store right now!), so I just had Grape Nuts and an apple.

Do you like swimming?  Do you wear a ‘floatie’ like me or are you a budding Michael Phelps? 🙂

Owww that poor little poodle- I am glad you saved the pup. Sounds like an eventful but fun day so far! I love swimming. I was on swim team from the time I was 4 until I was about 13.

not a good swimmer, i never was really taught how to swim, even though i grew up with a pool and by the lake

we are getting hit by a blizzard right now, so thanks for the sunny dog park pictures

I love swimming! I swam 44 pool lengths this morning. No floatie for me, although I bring “toys” like a kick-board, gloves, and fins sometimes. Having different “toys” makes me vary my laps so I don’t get bored. Such a great upper and lower body workout. 😀

    Love the doggie pics.

I like swimming but every time that I go to the pool, I have a carry so many things, towel, all necessities for the shower, so I’m lazy 🙂 Besides of that, I get very cold inside the pool in winter, although the water is warm, but I don’t know why I get extremely cold.

    Cute dogs!

Glad you saved the tiny dog! I can’t believe the owners of the big dogs didn’t do anything.

I can’t really swim. I’ll go in the pool on vacations, and I can swim enough to keep myself alive in deep water, but that’s about it.

Thank goodness you guys were smart to jump in to save the little dog. It makes me sad to here that! But the cute pics make up for it, especially the doxies! 🙂

Enjoy the rest of your evening!

My first year of law school at Pitt I would swim a mile in Bellefield’s swimming pool 3 times a week (my husband swam at Trees Pool), but then I found out that I had a benign tumor in my right ear that had to be removed. Now I can’t swim, even with earplugs, because they had to rebuild my hearing bones. I can shower with ear plugs, but that is the only time my head can be under water. It was so sad for me, because I loved swimming and wanted to do a Tri someday. Oh well, at least I can hear!

    LOVE THAT PUG!!!

I like the pear apple streudel flavor the best, too.

  • runningwithfood.com December 21, 2008, 8:06 pm

    Your pups are so adorable!!

Sounds like you had a great day … except for the grody poop!

LOVE TO SWIM!! Haven’t done it in so long … maybe you will inspire me!! 🙂

  • eatingbender December 21, 2008, 8:31 pm

I used to be on the swim team, but I don’t enjoy it as much as I used to! I think maybe if I bought some of those underwater headphones it would help :o)

Kudos to Caitlin the pup saver!! The mob mentality thing can be quite scary. I remember reading about some pretty bad ones in my psych class – yikes.

  • Fitnessista December 21, 2008, 9:44 pm

i love all the puppy pics! so cute!
i’m more of a “floater” than a swimmer.. give me a raft and an us weekly and i’m a happy kid 😀
hope you have a great night!

Round here in SC we call that playing shit-ball. the football gets covered in dog feces no matter what you do. It gets everywhere, you wash your hands many many times when you’re done playing and move on.

yes, it is disgusting. enjoy the swim!
