Good morning! Lord, Oh Lord…. I woke up and my thighs were BURNING!  It must have been all speedy running during yesterday’s 10K!  But, luckily, my knees didn’t  hurt AT ALL!  I think my knee sleeves are a miracle cure!

I crept into the kitchen and made breakfast.   I had my normal oatmeal, except I actually portion controlled the toppings for once. :)  And, of course, I had my typical cup of coffee, AKA elixir of life on a Monday morning.

My oatmeal contained:

  • 1/2 cup (dry) oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Toppings: 1 tablespoon coconut, 1 tablespoon granola

Athleta Contest Follow-Up

Halie, the Winner of the Athleta Contest, happily sent me a photo of her NEW WORKOUT GEAR, which is very "un-lame."

To jog your memory, here’s Halie’s "Before" photo.

And here’s Halie after she got outfitted with $200 worth of stylish and functional Athleta gear.

Halie bought:

Halie says, "In the picture I am wearing the Streamline pant, the Printed Adjustable Tunic and the Shape 2000 T-Back Sport Top (sports bra).  I love it all!! I’ve had a chance to test them out and they are so great to work out in! Especially the pants, both of them! I highly recommend them! They are ultra-wicking and SO comfortable to run in! And they all fit so well. The Athleta website is very user friendly and the size charts are great, I was able to get a perfect fit!"

YAY, Halie! Congrats on winning the contest! I will try to put together another a fun contest soon! 🙂

Today’s Affirmations

An affirmation is a positive statement that you repeat to yourself to lift you up and feel good (kind of like my "No Doubt! No Doubt!" during the 10K).  Affirmations are written in a way to sound as if they are already true.  Believe it, and you will achieve it!

Some people like to repeat affirmations in their head, some like to write it down and stick it on their computer, and others even repeat their affirmations out loud while in the shower!  TRUST ME – Affirmations WORK!

Here are some powerful affirmations to get your day off on the right foot:

  • I always have enough money for everything I need.
  • Loving myself unconditionally brings healing and an abundance of love into my life.
  • The love I give out returns to me multiplied.
  • I naturally make choices that are good for me.  I take loving care of my body and my body responds with health.
  • I am successful at whatever I choose to do.
  • I love and accept myself as I am.  Through this belief, I can love others more fully and they can love me.
  • The past has no power over me, I forgive all those that need my forgiveness and I forgive myself.
  • If I make mistakes, I am able to give myself the benefit of the doubt.

ENJOY YOUR DAY!

  • Oh She Glows November 10, 2008, 6:48 am

Wow I love the new workout gear- she looks so great 😀

I hope your legs are feeling better!

  • Halie November 10, 2008, 7:05 am

    Thank you!!!!!

Soreness is better then real pain right? Keeping the sore legs moving will help, I’m sure. Much easier to deal with than knee pain.

I went for a run yesterday and tried your mantra and it helped me reach my goal distance! Thanks for sharing your affirmations, I’ll have to ponder over some of my own today.

    Have a great week!

  • just me November 10, 2008, 7:05 am

Yay for Halie! Lookin’ good. Thanks for sending those positive thoughts out over the Internet – makes for a more upbeat Monday!

Also, thanks for the running encouragement! Do you have any training plan recos for someone at my level – in pretty good shape, but not a big runner?

  • amanda November 10, 2008, 8:22 am

that athleta gear is so cool! great choices, halie!

i love the idea of affirmations, i definitely make sure to keep the thoughts positive during my runs – it really makes a huge difference. one thing that tends to work is i look at my legs while i’m running hills and check out my newly muscular thighs … there’s a reason i’m getting up those hills!! sounds funny, but it works!

  • kirsten November 10, 2008, 8:40 am

you have probably answered this before but what kind of knee sleeves do you have? thanks !!

  • Erin November 10, 2008, 8:42 am

    Caitlin —

First off – I truly love reading your blog. There are a lot of things about it that I appreciate, most notably your refreshing persepective and positive attitude. It’s been really helpful to me. So, thank you!

random question: what do you recoommend for treating blisters? I have one on the back of my heel. It ripped open (I know, gross). I want to keep running but it hurts! Do you know what could help?

  • Caitlin (see bride run) November 10, 2008, 8:58 am

    halie – yay! thats awesome!

ashley – google “couch to 5k” program. it’s great!

kirstin – i wear Pro-Tec Athletics Short Knee Sleeves (one on both knees). You can order them from rei.com.

erin – buy some moleskin! you can get it at the drugstore. it’s in the foot care section near all the dr. scholl’s stuff. you just cut out the shape you need and place it over the blister. you might want to first put a square of toliet paper on top of the blister before sticking the moleskin on if it’s ripped but trust me, it works like a charm!

  • BOBBI McCORMICK November 10, 2008, 9:11 am

Cute before and after!!!! Love the affirmations! That’s what get’s me through every race, THIS IS MY RACE!

  • greendogwine November 10, 2008, 9:25 am

Great job on the 10K yesterday – you should have been tearing up when you crossed the finish line – thats an AMAZING time! I love the shower pics with your fam this weekend as well! 🙂 Have a great week!

  • Jenny November 10, 2008, 9:43 am

Hello from a lurker… just had to let you know the affirmations were JUST what I needed this morning after a tough weekend and long week ahead. I really appreciate your positivity and inspiration. Have a great monday!

  • Caitlin (see bride run) November 10, 2008, 9:55 am

jenny – thanks for delurking and saying hello! i’m glad the affirmations helped you!

  • *Andrea* November 10, 2008, 10:11 am

every time i read your blog i become 100% happier!! thanks for being so uplifting and generous with your tips and tricks 🙂

Hallie looks fabulous in her new gear!

  • Toni Jo November 10, 2008, 10:24 am

(Belated) congrats on your race!! That is amazing, you must be so thrilled.

    Hallie looks great!

  • Andrea November 10, 2008, 10:46 am

Great job in your race yesterday!!! I found your blog through Meghann’s, and can’t wait to explore all of the great running tips. I’m just starting training for a 10-mile race next spring… And, I love the chocolate chip Z-Bar!!!!! How did you get a Z-Bar fairy?!?!?!

  • ashley (sweet and natural) November 10, 2008, 10:56 am

Thanks for the running reco! I think I struggle most with knowing how to balance the “I already exercise regularly” with the “I don’t run regularly.” I know you’re supposed to ease into running for the best results, but I don’t know what level of runner I am. I don’t want to injure myself!

  • Caitlin (see bride run) November 10, 2008, 10:58 am

andrea – my z-bar fairy is a reader named amanda. she sends me z-bars 🙂 GOOD LUCK on your race!!

ashley – the rule is never to increase your weekly mileage by more than 10% to avoid injury! if you don’t run more than 5 – 7 miles a week, you’re a “beginner” runner.

  • Lee (seeleelive) November 10, 2008, 11:08 am

Caitlin- i love those affirmations. I have them too!!!! Wonderful lookin oats, will u be measuring more, too?

  • Caitlin (see bride run) November 10, 2008, 11:22 am

lee – i’m going to temporarily go back to measuring calorie-dense foods when i do each them (like PB and granola). but i’m not going to get all crazy about it, and i’m NOT calorie counting any more than i was “ballparking” before.

  • ashley (sweet and natural) November 10, 2008, 11:46 am

You are a wealth of running information!

  • HangryPants November 10, 2008, 9:16 pm

    Go Halie!

I sampled three of those bars so far. PB and Apple were gross. Banana was ok. They remind me of Soy Joy Bars, which are so gross.

  • Emily November 12, 2008, 1:06 am

Thanks for sharing the affirmations! I always repeat to myself ‘Happy, Healthy and Whole’ which helps remind me that I have all I need and anything else is a plus. Everything is OK 🙂
