I braved the dark and the cold for a nice, long 6.0 mile run.  It was glorious, although it was a little chilly!  I set off on my run being very negative about the darkness.  All I could think was "BLAHHH it’s so dark. And so cold."  I decided to be more positive about things and focused on thoughts like:

  • Hey, it’s not 95 degrees and in the middle of humid August.
  • I can wear my sports bra again because its not all smelly!
  • People must think I’m really hardcore because I’m running in the cold and dark.

Also, it was WAY easier to pretend I was in a music video because I could make funny faces and mouth the words to my iPod without anyone seeing me!

What, you don’t do that?  🙂

Here are my statistics:

  • Duration: 1 hr, 1 minute (6.0 miles)
  • Average Heart Rate: 165
  • Maximum Heart Rate: 188
  • Calories Burned: 533

Dinner was quick and easy.

I had leftover chicken crock pot soup and a grilled cheese with alfalfa sammie.

Alfalfa sprouts are a really great addition to grilled cheese! So delish!

I’m kind of hungry still…. I think I may have a glass of milk before bed. 🙂

Pre-Run Snack

Before my run, I had a pear + PB.  Interesting combo, but delicious!

Going to go watch Ricky Gervais stand up comedy special on HBO! Have a fun night!

Do you sing out loud, mouth the words, or just listen to your iPod when exercising?

  • teacherwoman November 19, 2008, 6:31 pm

Now I have that song in my head! 🙂

  • Meghann November 19, 2008, 6:49 pm

I like your ‘People will think I’m hardcore comment’ thats what I told myself this morning when I went on my run! lol

Did you get my messege? Our package arrived! I’m going to wait and open it until dinner tomorrow! Its like waiting for an early christmas 🙂

  • VeggieGirl November 19, 2008, 6:49 pm

    HAHA!! Fun run 😀

Love the pear & PB combination – interesting!!

I just listen to the song, and sing in my head.

    Good night!!

  • ttfn300 November 19, 2008, 6:51 pm

hehe, depends on who’s around 😉

  • Shannon November 19, 2008, 6:55 pm

Hey, you eat pears with PB like me!
I also love acting like I’m in a music vid, but then I get carried away and forget about my workout. Plus, its a little hard to dance to “Piece of Me” when you’re doing yoga!

  • Laura November 19, 2008, 6:56 pm

Since I workout in a gym, I just listen. I usually don’t wear my ipod when I exercise outside. I think I’m afraid I won’t hear danger as it approaches or something. 🙂

  • Erica November 19, 2008, 6:59 pm

Heck yes I sing when I workout (even when I'm in the gym and its obvious that I'm mouthing the words ;). I also sing to my classes- I'm sure they love it hahaha. Good for you for braving the dark/coldness! Dinner looks great! Sprouts in grilled cheese? Josh would <3 this!

  • teenage Veg Head November 19, 2008, 7:00 pm

wow that grilled cheese looks so good! i will have to try it.

  • ashley (sweet and natural) November 19, 2008, 7:11 pm

I always listen to my iPod when I’m walking around the city – to work, to and from the bf’s, etc. And I most definitely have been known to sing out loud. 😛

  • Meg November 19, 2008, 7:12 pm

I never thought to put alfalfa sprouts in my grilled cheese! YUM!

I just listen…no singing in front of others for me!

  • Oh She Glows November 19, 2008, 7:17 pm

LOL this made me laugh outloud:

“People must think I’m really hardcore because I’m running in the cold and dark.”

You are too cute!! I think things like that too. Its so funny.

Ive never imagined myself in a music video though! Gotta try that one, heh.

I just sing the songs in my head on my runs (and in the gym)!

  • Halie November 19, 2008, 7:20 pm

If I’m alone, I’ll sing along and make funny faces and everything! But if people are around I usually don’t have a problem just mouthing the words.

I’ll have to try the peanut butter/pear combonation. I’ve never had that!

  • Bridget November 19, 2008, 7:24 pm

I usually just listen, but it cracks me up when I catch other people singing or lip-syncing at the gym!

  • Jenngirl November 19, 2008, 7:29 pm

Great way to utilize the dark, belt it, girl!

I totally rock out sometimes…I try to keep it low key if I am actually in a gym though. On the streets, watch out 🙂

  • I am Angie Pooh November 19, 2008, 7:50 pm

“I can wear my sports bra again because its not all smelly!”

No, I don’t sing because I, personally, would feel silly… but I love seeing people sing and getting all into their music while working out. I wish I had the guts to do that! 🙂

  • Sarah November 19, 2008, 8:09 pm

Ok, so there might also be some arm movements to go with my singing when I’m running (only when I think there are no cars in sight!). But occasionally it happens when I’m running with someone else and they are embarassed to be seen with me!

  • seeleelive (for the love of peanut butter) November 19, 2008, 8:14 pm

…hahah your post is hilarious! I love your honesty and your take on realistic follies.
Most of the time I run to the music, like step by the beat. and when my favorite songs come out I will sing it outloud and lip sing! WAHOOO!

  • Mica November 19, 2008, 8:18 pm

I definitely mouth the words when I’m running, and I also pretend I’m in a music video at least once a day.

I’m glad to find out that other people do it too!

  • just me November 19, 2008, 8:26 pm

when i stand at the corner i do a little dance to the music…and when i don’t have my headphones/ipod w/ me i sing out loud to myself on the street…like this morning at 5.15am..no one could see or hear me belting it all out! hehehe!

great run! and love the eats! pear and pb? interesting!

  • bitesoflife November 19, 2008, 8:30 pm

Oh I totally sing at the gym, and talk to myself sometimes. The good thing is that there are TV’s on the cardio equipment so everyone is usually caught up in whatever is on!

  • Elina November 19, 2008, 8:33 pm

Hi Caitlin, you’ve been awarded the Superior Scribbler badge. Check out my blog for the rules!

  • Jessica November 19, 2008, 8:41 pm

grilled cheese PLUS spicy mustard!! you have to try it! 🙂 I usually just mouth the words when I get into it, but I need new music, would love some of your favorite songs that pump ya up to run to!

  • Lyss November 19, 2008, 8:45 pm

Yup, I definitely do that. Sometimes I catch myself dancing. I told my fiance that and he laughed SO hard. I have a hard time running on treadmills because of my “dancing”- I lose my footing!

Love the alfalfa grilled cheese sammie!

  • chandra November 19, 2008, 9:04 pm

I totally mouth the words along with my iPod when I’m working out – both on cardio machines or doing strength!! ANd every so often a few words get sung quietly as well. One of my faves to lip sing along with is “Overprotected” by Britney!! 🙂

  • BOBBI McCORMICK November 19, 2008, 10:21 pm

I Sing to it sometimes outloud people think i am crazy I am sure…lol…sprouts and grilled cheese yummers!!! WAY TO PILE ON THOSE MILES!!!!

  • Amanda November 19, 2008, 10:31 pm

On my dark, morning runs .. not only do I think that people must see me as hard core .. I also mouth the words like crazy!! It makes it so much more fun .. sometimes I even do little air punches or air guitar. I wouldn’t do that at the gym, but that’s what makes my solo runs so special 🙂 Congrats on the great run!

  • magpie November 20, 2008, 12:12 am

Her new album is great 🙂

I tend to bop my head a lot when I listen to music. Even when I’m sitting at work I can’t sit still. I’ll be working and moving my head and jiggling my foot.

  • Katie November 20, 2008, 12:24 am

You should start busting the moves, girlie!

    I love sprouts + cheese

  • Jen November 20, 2008, 5:30 am

You should hear me when I am on the treadmill at home…I sing outloud like you wouldn’t believe. And…it aint pretty! I am a horrible singer! 🙂

  • Caitlin (see bride run) November 20, 2008, 5:39 am

hahah I LOVED reading your responses! so nice to know you all love the air guitar as much as i do!

  • HangryPants November 20, 2008, 7:37 am

I definitely belt it out on the treadmill (at home). At the gym, I contain myself and just mouth the words. 😀

  • Nicole (anotheronebitesthecrust.wordpress.com) November 20, 2008, 3:18 pm

HAHA! I usually mouth the words or sing out loud if I’m running outside and no one is around. Heck, I’d probably sing even if people were around.. I have no shame!
