Girls Night Out at the Salon

in All Posts

Hello, everyone!  What a FUN evening I’ve had — it was a great way to kick off my mini-holiday!

Alta Moda Salon hosted a Girls Night Out party, so Meghann and I went to get our hair done for *free*.  It ended up turning into quite the girlie evening with tons of good food + drink!  It was like a cocktail party in a hair salon — the place was bumpin’!

I started things off right with a mimosa. 🙂

My lovely hairdresser, Christine, did my second wedding hair trial.  Last time, I did a half up-do, so this time I tried a real up-do.  I didn’t really get a good picture of it, though!

I LOOOOOVE MY HAIR.  It wasn’t a tight up-do at all; it was all soft and romantic with little braids.   A fake flower completed the look (not sure about this for the wedding; we’ll see).

Meghann got her hair done as well. :)   Here’s Meghann in progress….

AND we got lash extensions put on… for free! Alta Moda is amazing!  The lash extensions last 3 days to a week!

After our beauty treatments, we hit up the catered food…. which was excellent!  It was kind to fun to eat and drink in a salon.

I’ve never seen tiny cups of soup handed out as appetizers… very modern!  They served me a delicious bowl of pumpkin creme soup.

And I had about six tiny toasts topped with chicken and bella mushrooms.  Plus, some raw veggies for CRUNCH!  It ended up being a substainable"dinner."

After the festivities at the salon, we walked to a nearby wine bar and split a flight of Spanish reds.

I have this thing with taking pictures of Meghann taking pictures.  I think it’s hysterical for some reason. 🙂

After gossiping with my "twin" for about an hour, we parted ways.

Other Eats of the Day — Plus a Mini Run!

Before the madness at the salon, I managed to squeeze in a quick 2.0 mile run.  Now, some people think "Oh, it’s only 20 minutes, it’s not worth it."  But, I really have the mentality that SOMETHING is better than NOTHING.  And a lot of it is just staying in the habit of (nearly) daily workouts, which I really value.  Moving everyday makes me so happy!

I headed out the door right when I finished work and did a quick 2.0 mile loop.  Here are my statistics (or what I can remember, my HRM is packed):

  • Duration: 20 minutes (2 miles)
  • Calories Burned: 170

Before my run, I had 1 cup skim milk + 1/2 scoop Muscle Milk Light.

Earlier, I had a slice of toast with Laughing Cow….

And some Yogurt + Grape Nuts (about 1/4 a cup). Yayyy, I missed you, yogurt!

Well, I’ve got to leave now… time to drive to the coast.   It’s about an hour and half, so hopefully I won’t get there TOO late!  My vacation will be packing with hiking, running, laying by the pool, and relaxing.  Stay tuned!

Enjoy your Friday!

I agree that a short run is better than none at all. It keeps you in the habit and makes you feel like you accomplished something!

You look so beautiful! I love the updo. I can’t wait to see your wedding pics.

(Why do i always sound so creepy on these things?)

  • Matt November 13, 2008, 7:53 pm

    have fun on your vacation!

  • Claire November 13, 2008, 8:00 pm

Have other people called you twins? I have a friend that’s happened to with me but we don’t look alike…it amazes me how people you spend a lot of time around, others think you look like even if you don’t! Looks like y’all had fun!

  • teacherwoman November 13, 2008, 8:06 pm

Sounds like you and Meghann had a great night! Too much fun!

Enjoy your vacay with Future Husband!

BTW, when I was watching the Biggest Loser the other night I thought of you. I was completely and utterly digusted in Vicky’s behavior. I couldn’t stand watching her act like some 12 year old girl. It was rediculous.

  • Anonymous November 13, 2008, 8:09 pm

And seriously Caitlin your hair looks stunning! I think you should use that look for the wedding for SURE! Maybe you could ask your florist for a fresh flower that will hold up in your hair? so fun that your wedding is so soon!!!

  • Meg November 13, 2008, 8:11 pm

You both look beautiful! Have a great vacation!

  • Fitnessista November 13, 2008, 8:16 pm

    looks like so much fun!
    have an amazing weekend!!!!

  • eatingbender November 13, 2008, 8:20 pm

Sounds like a fun night! Great hair :o) Have you decided which style you’re going to go with?

  • amanda November 13, 2008, 8:20 pm

Your night looked like a really fun time!

I completely agree with you about just getting out and moving – every little bit counts, especially mentally 🙂 When I know I won’t be able to fit in a real workout, I try to get in a 30 minute walk over lunch!

I just wanted to tell you I made your baked tofu recipe tonight and it was delicious!!! I mixed the tofu with some veggies and added a little hot sauce and sliced almonds – YUM! Thanks for the recipe!!

    Have a great weekend!

  • ashley (sweet and natural) November 13, 2008, 8:36 pm

What a fun night – and a great way to start your long weekend!

Also, I started the Couch-to-5K program this week. I began on week 4 and I’m liking it so far! I’m glad I’m becoming a runner the “proper” way. Thanks for the reco!

  • I am Angie Pooh November 13, 2008, 8:58 pm

Omg, you both look sooo pretty! 🙂 It sounds like you had a lot of fun. I love getting my hair blown out. I always feel so good afterwards!

I agree with your mentality of something is better than nothing! That’s something that I’ve been trying to instill in myself because I tend to have the ‘all or nothing’ mentality, which isn’t healthy when it comes to certain situations.

I hope you have a great vacation! Can’t wait to read about it. 🙂

  • jenngirl November 13, 2008, 9:08 pm

You beautiful fun gals, I wish I could share a wine flight with y’all!! 🙂

  • Tamara (A Wedding Story) November 13, 2008, 9:46 pm

Oh, how I miss the days of hair and makeup trials! Soak it all in — it goes by so quickly! 🙂 Have a great mini-vacation!

  • Balance, Joy and Delicias! November 14, 2008, 5:53 am

you look great with your new hair cuts.
And needless to say that you eats are fabs.

One question for caitlin: what heart monitor do you use for your workout stats? I’m considering to get one. thanks

  • Caitlin (see bride run) November 14, 2008, 6:09 am

    thanks lee 🙂

balance joy and food- i have a polar f4…. i loooove it! highly recommended. it’s on my FAQs, i think there is a link.

  • Meghann November 14, 2008, 6:15 am

My eyelash extinsions fell out in the shower this morning 🙁 So much for having them in Tally.

  • Jordan November 14, 2008, 8:02 am

Wow, your hair looks AMAZING like that. I’m partial to up-dos, though. I don’t like hair down for weddings. The flower really added the final touch.

  • Katie November 14, 2008, 8:17 am

I’m with you! I try and squeeze in 15 minutes every morning just to get moving! And it sounds like a rocking girls night! Woo-Hoo!!

  • Catherine November 14, 2008, 9:43 am

Something is definitely better than nothing!! Good mentality – I think a 2 mile run is a perfect use of 20 minutes.

Looove the lash extensions by the way.

  • Erin of Care to Eat November 14, 2008, 10:48 am

That looks like so much fun! Fake lashes are the best.

  • HangryPants November 14, 2008, 12:30 pm

I love the flower in your hair. You two girls are such fun!
