A Girl Could Get Used to This!

in All Posts

Last night, I arrived at the parents-in-law’s home safe and sound.  After grabbing a handful of almonds, I discovered a nice “thank you” basket filled with champagne and chocolate (and cash!!) was waiting on the bed.

Maybe my in-laws don’t understand that house-sitting for them is essentially like VACATIONING in PARADISE!? :)  I would practically pay THEM to let us stay here uninterrupted!

Eating at my in-laws’ house is so exciting because they have the MOST well-stocked fridge I have ever seen.  In fact, its usually difficult to get stuff back into the fridge after you take it out! It’s like a jigsaw puzzle.

While I contemplated breakfast, I enjoyed a nice cup of coffee al fresco on the patio.

The star ingredient for breakfast: BRANDY!

FSCN9999

Yes… brandy in my oatmeal.  That’s how I roll on holiday.

DSCN0005

My oatmeal contained:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup water
  • A smidge under 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Added towards the end: 1 tablespoon of brandy
  • Toppings:  Macadamia nuts, dried blueberries, dried raspberries

On the side, I had fresh bowl of fruit….

It was a slightly larger breakfast than normal because we’ll probably end up doing loads of fun physical activities today, like bike riding or walking on the beach…. I might squeeze in a long run, too! :)  Or I just may lay by the pool!

What’s your FAVORITE place to go on vacation?  I think one of the best vacations I ever had was when my girlfriends and I went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  But it’s also nice to just have a relaxing weekend when you don’t feel pressure to go see stuff, either!

Aww, such a lovely “thank you” basket!! And score on the stocked fridge!! 😀

**Favorite vacation locations = Sedona, Arizona; Las Vegas; NYC. I visit EACH of these locations almost annually 🙂

wow your in-laws are amazing! that is the best thank you basket ever! love the brandy in the oatmeal 😉 post more pics if you can hehe sounds like a gorgeous spot

  • Meghann November 14, 2008, 7:06 am

Wow, living in style? So when can i come visit? 🙂 I hope you guys have fun and enjoy your little break away together!

My favorite vacation spot would be the Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. I spent 4 days there on an all expsense paid trip thanks to my Dad’s company and it was heaven. They have everything you need in the little resort that I think we only left the resort twice the entire time. I would go back in a heart beat.

andrea – oh i will! not to sound like the super dorky urban planner that i am, but my in laws live in the niceeeeeeeeest master planned community. loads of photos to come!

  • Meg November 14, 2008, 7:15 am

Wow! I think you just might be in a dream world! Enjoy!

I love going to Manele Bay in Hawaii!

  • Alex November 14, 2008, 7:20 am

Ooh, that place looks SO. NICE. I am looking forward to all of the pictures!

I have a slightly off-topic question. As far as I can tell from your photos, it looks like you have long-ish bangs – the sideswept kind? I have been thinking about getting that style for awhile now, so I was wondering how you find them when you run? (You can tell you are a dedicated runner when this is your biggest concern about a new hairstyle.) It looks like you pin them back – do you use bobby pins or those clip-down barrette-type things? Do they come loose easily or stay put? Am I being completely neurotic here?

  • Caitlin (see bride run) November 14, 2008, 7:24 am

alex – hahahha that is so funny because i had the same issues when cutting my swoopy bangs. i’ve found that pinning them up with bobby pins works just fine, especially when i start to sweat and my hair glues itself down anyways. YOU are QUITE the dedicated runner!!! i love it!!

  • Mrs. LC November 14, 2008, 7:25 am

  • Andrea (Off Her Cork) November 14, 2008, 7:41 am

Ha! That’s how I roll on holiday too! 😀

Our favorite place to go is about an hour away out in the boonies. We can rent a cabin and take the doggie and chill for a few days with no one around. Soooo nice! We haven’t done that in over a year and I’m craving it big time.

Girls night out looks like it was a blast!!

  • tfh November 14, 2008, 7:48 am

Enjoy your vacation– looks truly relaxing/pampering, which both you and FH deserve! Honestly, my favorite place to go on vacation is just to go back home and visit my parents. So corny and not very exciting. Of course, it wouldn’t hurt if my parents lived in a warmer climate and had a pool. 😉

  • seeleelive (for the love of peanut butter) November 14, 2008, 7:51 am

    DRunk off OATMEAL!! YEEEEEEEEES!

  • ashley (sweet and natural) November 14, 2008, 7:52 am

That pool area looks gorgeous! Looking forward to more pics.

My favorite vacation of late was a trip with my bf and his parents to Hilton Head. The weather was perfect and we went on 3 hour long bike rides through the forest trails everyday. And ate lots of yummy seafood and ice cream!

  • Tina November 14, 2008, 8:04 am

Oh my, SO FUN! What a treat, right?!

  • Sharney November 14, 2008, 9:28 am

OMG!!! Your in-laws place is amazing and absolutely gorgeous! It looks like a tropical paradise! I hope you guys have lots of fun and come back relaxed and refreshed. I wish I was there- it is cold, wet and gray here 🙁

Enjoy and have fun walking the beach and bike riding!

  • Catherine November 14, 2008, 9:48 am

Umm can I come house sit for your future in-laws??

My favorite vacation spot is HAWAII! Specifically Kauai. with Granada, Spain a close second.

I’ve been to Maui, which is awesome, but Kauai is less built up – tons of kayaking, swimming, running, sailing to do! Plus it’s home to the Kaulilau Trail… a 25 mile (roundtrip) hike that is rated really high by the Sierra Club. I’ve only done 8 miles of it, but one day… 🙂

  • Aimee November 14, 2008, 9:58 am

I can’t wait to see more pictures from this weekend!!

I love getting away period, so I don’t know if I have a favorite spot.

  • eatingbender November 14, 2008, 10:06 am

I could definitely get used to that! Have fun :o) Love love the brandy in the oatmeal!

  • ksgoodeats November 14, 2008, 10:17 am

Can I just say that I love how you added brandy to your oats. That certainly adds a little somethin’-somethin’ to them 🙂

Have a great vacation! I hope you don’t mind but I’ve added you to my blogroll, I love yours!

  • Lora November 14, 2008, 10:49 am

p.s. the oatmeal brandy idea is great…for special occasions, like Christmas and Pattys Day, my grandma always makes us oatmeal with a splash of Baily’s (she is Irish) when we visit their house.

new orleans is my favorite vacation spot…it is so welcoming down there and full of history, great food, great coffee, and great drinks 🙂

  • Carolina John November 14, 2008, 11:16 am

ha! there’s nothing wrong with brandy for breakfast. it might not be a good habit, but when you’re on vacay anything goes.
