Halfway There

in All Posts

I am totally workin’ for the weekends right now.  Except my upcoming weekend is so jam-packed that it’s not going to be very relaxing….. but it will be fun (minus Saturday)!

  • Tonight:  Our friend Harry is coming over to watch the opening game of the world series (Go Phillies!)
  • Thursday NightMeghann and I are going to spin and yoga, and then we’re carving pumpkins and watching TV
  • Friday: Our friends Lisette and Danny are coming into town
  • Saturday: Bone Scan day (it takes about 6 hours)
  • Sunday: The in-laws are staying overnight with us, and my future Mother-in-law and I are running wedding errands.

Eck!

I started off this morning with an interesting bowl of oatmeal:

My oatmeal contained:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Toppings: coconut, brown  sugar, Kashi Go Lean Crunch! kernels.

Between the coconut and the Kashi, it was a very unique blend of flavors and textures.  Very satisfying!

What I Know For Sure

As you may have noticed, I’m a big fan of Oprah.  Don’t judge her until you read her magazine, specifically the last column of each month’s issue, which is written by Oprah herself and entitled "What I Know For Sure."  After two years of reading this column, I can attest that Oprah is a highly spiritual, caring, and insanely intelligent woman (yes, she actually writes each column).

This month’s column is the Top 20 things that she knows for sure, and I found myself so moved reading the list.

I wanted to share the very best with you…. I hope these mantras brighten your day or give you a new perspective on a challenge you are facing.

  • What you put out comes back, all the time, no matter what.
  • Whatever someone did to you in the past has no power over the present.  Only you give it power.
  • When people show you who they are, believe them the first time.
  • If the only prayer you ever say is "thank you," that will be enough.
  • Failure is a signpost to turn you in another direction.
  • Love yourself and then learn to extend that love to others in every encounter.

The one thing I know for sure is: "Love should come first; it should be the beginning of and the reason for everything"  (from "The Awakened Heart").  I truly believe the world would be a much better place if we all just extended a little more kindness to one another one.  Judgement and hate have no place in my heart!

What do you know for sure?

Love that quote list! So inspirational!

Did you get an MRI before your bone scan? I need to schedule an MRI for my knees- So sorry to hear you are having trouble with them also.

  • jenngirl October 22, 2008, 5:07 am

I’m ALWAYS livin’ for the weekend! The rest of your week sounds packed, but fun!!

That Oprah column you shared is wonderful!! What do I know for sure?? That the most important parts of life are the moments each day that we rarely take the time to notice. Cherish the small things, they are what count ๐Ÿ™‚

    Have a great day!!

heather – here is the complete quote. glad you liked it. ๐Ÿ™‚

There is a desire within each of us, in the deep center of ourselves that we call our heart. We were born with it, it is never completely satisfied, and it never dies. We are often unaware of it, but it is always awake. It is the human desire for love. Every person in this earth yearns to love, to be loved, to know love. Our true identity, our reason for being, is to be found in this desire…

…love is the รขโ‚ฌหœwhyรขโ‚ฌโ„ข of life: why we are functioning at all, what we want to be efficient for… I am convinced it [love] is the fundamental energy of the human spirit, the fuel on which we run, the wellspring of our vitality. And grace, which is the flowing, creative activity of love itself, is what makes all goodness possible.

Love should come first; it should be the beginning of and the reason for everything.

    ~From “The Awakened Heart.”

bhlthy – i actually called yesterday about an MRI and the doc swore i didn’t need it for my potential stress fracture. he’s an idiot, so after i get the bone scan done, i’m going to go see another doctor, and we’ll see what happens then in re: to my knees!

I should pick up Oprahs magazine! Those thoughts are so true. What I know is that there is not point in worrying about trivial things you can’t control…you’ll drive yourself crazy.

Also on your previous wedding post…my venue does not allow any candles ๐Ÿ™ I was so bummed because candle light is sooo pretty!! I wonder if ALL AC More’s are going out of busines!?

Six hours worth of bone scan? You are NOT making me want to go see the doctor.

Those what I know for sures seem very true to me! Your line about judgment and hate is one of my “everyday challenges.”

  • Meg October 22, 2008, 6:32 am

I’m a huge Oprah fan too! Love that list.

  • Hilary October 22, 2008, 7:51 am

I completely agree with you. I believe its the little things everyone does that makes the world a better place i.e. waving and smiling at passerbys on my run, thanking a car for letting me in, telling a voter registration person or the political people who call you that you really admire and appreciate what they’re doing

It may not seem like much..but just that one smile may turn someone’s day around..you never know. And how powerful is it that something that takes so little effort from you can make such a big difference?

  • sharon October 22, 2008, 8:03 am

    Go Phillies!!
