Every morning should look and feel like this:

DSCN9985

I woke up to a crisp and clear day.  The temperature was perfect (about 70) and there was a slight breeze in the air.  James looked like he had died and gone to heaven during his morning walk:

Is that not a face of PURE PLEASURE?  I looked the exact same way, I’m sure!

I got ready to go on my run (side note: do you know how long it takes me to get dressed for a long run? I have to put on my running clothes, knee sleeves, Camel Bak, iPod, heart rate monitor, sweatband, and sneakers.  I look like a freak.)… and I promptly checked my enthusiasm for running double digits at the door.  I remembered that just one week ago I had promised not to run more than 7.0 miles for the next three weeks.  Just because I CAN and WANT TO run 10.0 miles doesn’t mean I should… that’s how I got an overuse injury in the first place!

Before I left, I had a Pre-Run Snack.  I ate a waffle with PB and maple syrup.  Of course, a coffee was necessary.

I ran 7.0 easy miles in what was arguably the nicest weather we’ve had since last March.  It felt so good to feel the cool wind on my face and jam to my Britney Spears playlist (side note: "Hit Me Baby One More Time" was released 10 years ago last week… do you feel old now?).

My knees felt a little twingey around mile 5.0, but I tried not to focus on it and/or freak out.  It went away after a few minutes, and now I feel fine.

Here are my statistics:

  • Duration: 1 hr, 9 minutes (7.0 miles)
  • Average Heart Rate: 165 bpm
  • Maximum Heart Rate: 182 bpm
  • Calories Burned: 593

I came home, stretched, and drank a Muscle Milk Light smoothie (1 scoop of protein powder + 1 cup of milk).  Does anyone else love the protein chunks like I do?

After a quickie shower, I had breakfast/lunch.  I kind of missed my normal breakfast time, just I decided a sammie would be more appropriate.

DSCN9991

I made a Black Bean and Mushroom Veggie Burger, topped with some Italian cheese on a slice of WW toast.

DSCN9993

And I had a load of veggies and fruit… including cucumber slices, a carrot, pineapple rings, and a plum.

Well, I’m off to go scrub the bathroom and kitchen. My parents in law will be here in T-Minus 2 Hours and the house looks like a pigsty.

See ya for dinner! Enjoy your Sunday!

  • Justine October 26, 2008, 8:41 am

Haha, James doesn’t look so excited. How’s your new resolution going with walking them every morning? I forgot about that!

You’re making me jealous with your runs! The weather there sounds like how it has been in Houston and I just want to go out and enjoy it! I think I’ll take a walk later at least. Congrats on the 7 miles…and for thinking about your body and not pushing it too much yet. Definitely don’t want another injury!
Oh, and I do feel old since “Hit Me Baby One More Time” came out 10 YEARS AGO?!?! Whoa.
Have fun with the future in-laws!

Awesome job on the 7 mile run!! Way to go!! Florida looks especially beautiful today 🙂 We have clear blue skies here today, but it is COLD and windy!

James is looking like “the man” out there! How adorable is he!!!!

No running for me today. Today is a definite rest day. I am going to give my puppy a bath, do some shopping and carve my pumpkin later tonight. Hope you have a great day with the in-laws!!

Your food always looks soooo good!! Do you plan out your meals ahead of time? (I mean, to then plan out your grocery shopping list and such.) I’m moving to a new place in a few weeks and you’re really motivating me to make yummy, delicious-looking and healthy meals!

Great job on the 7 miler!

  • talieworld October 26, 2008, 9:26 am

    Yay for the 7 miler!!

And Baby one more time has reached a decade? Yeah, I do feel old.:(
Funny thing is I still like Britney just as much then (I was in fourth grade!) as I do now. I guess some things never change. 🙂

  • lighterportions October 26, 2008, 9:36 am

That day looks perfect, completely perfect. And I love James’s face hehe.

I can’t believe the Britney train has been around for 10 years… say what?!

    Good job with the run!

  • Caitlin (see bride run) October 26, 2008, 10:21 am

martiza – no, i dont really plan. i tried planning before but i really just before to be spur of the moment and go with what im craving…. i do always get certain basics (sweet potato, black beans, tofu, veggies, etc), which allow me to make the things i usually crave.

  • Erin of Care to Eat October 26, 2008, 10:25 am

I love the protein chunks too! I didn’t know anyone else did though!!!!
Gorgeous weather and of course, I love your little puppers.
Have a beautiful day! I’m so glad your run was amazing!

  • loveofoats.com October 26, 2008, 10:34 am

  • Danielle October 26, 2008, 11:31 am

    Haha, I’ve never had a protein shake… so I don’t know 😉

Sounds like a great run! Your fall weather is like my spring weather today… bootiful. Enjoy it! Good luck with cleaning too!

  • Balance, Joy and Delicias! October 26, 2008, 11:32 am

wooooooo!!! 7 miles!!! that’s a long run! you must feel so energetic this morning!

and that black bean burger looks fabulous! I’ll have to make it soon!

  • HangryPants October 26, 2008, 11:39 am

I think what you said about being able to run 10 miles, but not doing it all the time is a good point! Sometimes I feel like a lazy pants if I run less than 7 or 8 miles because I know I can, but for me, I shouldn’t do that everyday!

Have fun with the parents in laws. Love your Florida palm trees!

  • Gina October 26, 2008, 12:21 pm

that’s so funny, i can’t stand protein chunks! do you like dane cook? he does a spiel about nestle quik and how the chunks are like sand missiles shooting him in the eye… it’s pretty funny and totally reminds me of protein powder!

sounds like an amazing run! have fun with the future in-laws!

  • downtownbarbie October 26, 2008, 4:16 pm

  • Erica October 26, 2008, 5:03 pm

I need to try making bean burgers, they look soooo good! I can’t believe that song was released 10 years ago, that makes me feel ancient! I remember jamming out to that song when I was in high school haha.
