Favor This

in All Posts

I decided to skip tonight’s work out in favor of working on the wedding (88 days, eck!). I spent 2 hours looking at favors online and couldn’t find ANYTHING I like.  This really shouldn’t be so difficult. 🙁

Any suggestions?? We’re looking for something "Florida"-ish.

Around 1 PM, I had a big snack… yogurt + granola (times two… I went back for seconds!).

And around 4 PM, I had a small handful of almonds…

As a result of my larger mid-day snacks, I just didn’t get really hungry for dinner.  I finished organizing my bursting WEDDING FOLDER OF EXCITEMENT and searching for favors around 7 PM and finally settled down for an easy, light dinner.

I had some spinach + goat cheese, a large carrot, a block of baked tofu, and a cup of Pacific Natural Foods Organic Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato soup.

I was too tired to take the time to press the tofu, so I just chopped it into tiny pieces and seasoned with chili powder, pepper, and a drizzle of maple syrup.  Something sweet (like honey or syrup) makes baked tofu…so….much….better.

I’m trying to clean out my veggie drawer because we’re going on a mini holiday to Miami this weekend…. yay!  🙂

Pacific Natural Foods Organic Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato soup gets a HUGE two thumbs up from me, by the way! It comes in a carton, not a can.  And it’s just so creamy and thick.

Since I didn’t get a THING accomplished with my wedding planning, I’m kind of annoyed I skipped my work out. Grrr! Tomorrow, I have a dinner date scheduled, but I may try to fit in a run afterwards…. we’ll see!

Good night! Sleep tight!

Try looking at the Oriental Trading Company’s website for fun favors.

    Almonds + soup = yum!!

Don’t be annoyed!! You’ll get that workout tomorrow, for sure :0)

That is my favorite brand of soup! Sometimes I’ll add in extra veggies to the carrot or butternut squash flavors and they really do taste homemade.

    The tofu looks really good!

I wish I could help you with the favors, but I have no idea. Good luck!

I’m actually in the process of selecting favors right now for my conference at work. We’re going for a beachy theme since the conference takes place in Long Beach so right now my desk is covered with beach towels, tote bags and water bottles. THe fun past is I get to keep the samples when we’re done!

    Can’t wait for dinner tomorrow!

I know what you mean about MIA. I’ve been vacationing here forever, but its a completely different experience living here!

I’m about 35 minutes north of Kendall, its hard to get there. 🙁
I could easily get Downtown, South Beach, and anywhere around North Miami Beach. So let me know if you’ll be anywhere around there!

I got married last year, and in leui of favors, we did a candy buffet.
If you still want to incorporate the “Florida” theme in, maybe doing some orange flavored candy?

  • bitesoflife October 8, 2008, 7:46 pm

Hmmmn, I’ve never seen that kind of soup up here… I think I will have to look for it!
By the way, last week you had asked to see some before/after pics and I posted them today, so I thought I’d let you know!
I also hope you find the perfect favor sooner than later…

  • Jewels October 8, 2008, 8:01 pm

    Hi Caitlin,
Do you listen to music during your races? I heard it is sometimes prohibited?
    Thanks!

  • Caitlin (see bride run) October 8, 2008, 8:04 pm

angie — oooo candy buffet!! i love those!!

jewels — they have to say no headphones, but they never enforce it. the only race i didnt use headphones in was for a dualthon, because i was biking.

favors are pointless!!! I think the best thing someone has ever done at a wedding is donate the money that you would pay for favors to a charity you both like, and then on the table where the favor would go you would write a little about the charity and how you donated it in their honor:) We did carmel apples, because we were engaged at an apple farm(nice thought but took forever!)

  • BOBBI McCORMICK October 8, 2008, 9:56 pm

o and if I could have it my way I would do a sweet potato bar!!! In Martini glasses:) With wonderful toppings like brown sugar, marshmellows sp?, and such!

for wedding favs how about beach balls with yours and FH names and the wedding date on them?

  • HangryPants October 9, 2008, 3:37 am

    Hi Caitlin,

I’ve been to a lot of weddings recently where the couple has made a donation to a favorite charity as their favor. Then they just put a little note at the tables indicating that they did. You could something local to Florida or something health/fitness related that is specual to you as a couple.

Another good favor is something edible. People love food. What about key lime cookies?

I just wanted to chime in on the favors discussion.

I am all for the donation to charity, mostly because I think most favors aren’t that exciting and as a guest of many weddings, I see most of them get left on tables or overlooked. If you HAVE to do them, make sure it is something edible. You are gonna be tempted to do something like shot glasses or wedding music cd opr something else monogrammed, etc. but trust me, most of us hate those and toss them. Sorry.

If you do a donation may I suggest the humane society or our local SPCA here in Orlando?

  • Caitlin (see bride run) October 9, 2008, 4:14 am

bobbi, heather, and anon – what a GREAT idea! i do think we feel compelled to “give” something to our guests, but we decided to go with a very cheaper favor and maybe we can do a donation, too! anon – you know we’d be down with the humane society! both our dogs are from a rescue group. 🙂

ash- that’s a pretty cute idea! except i forsee my drunk friends blowing them up right away and accidently smacking the DJ in the face with the spiked ball. 🙂

  • Marlow October 9, 2008, 7:31 am

    I LOVE that soup too!
