i’m bringing camelbak

in All Posts

I really look forward to PM workouts; all day at work I’m just itching to go on a run.  I definitely prefer working out later in the day!  In the morning, it’s just so hard to get motivated for a hard run without a build up! Sometimes its necessary (like tomorrow), but that’s just my preference in general…. Today, I ran a fast (well, for me) 6.0 miles.  Here are my statistics:

  • Duration: 1 hr, 3 minutes (58 minutes for 6.0, plus 5 minute cool-down)
  • Average Heart Rate: 174 bpm
  • Maximum Heart Rate: 200 bpm (eck! I was workin’ hard)
  • Calories Burned: 616

I needed to return the HEROES DVDs to Blockbuster, and my 6.0 mile loop goes right past it.  I’m totally out of  gas, so I figured I’d just drop it off in the midst of my run.  I didn’t want to carry it… but, duct taping the DVDs to my CamelBak sounded like a great idea. 🙂

Yeah — I got some weird looks! But it worked.

Dinner

When I came home, I made a Muscle Milk Light shake (1 scoop protein powder, plus 1 cup skim milk).

For dinner, I made 3 oz. of chicken coated in Grape Nuts (shake and bake baby!).  On the side, I had 1/2 sweet potato, broc, and corn on the cob.

Grape Nuts is such a versatile cereal… I use it in cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, and even on savory dishes like chicken and salmon.  It stays super crunchy when baked!

Mid-Afternoon Snacks

Around 4:30, I had two pieces of WW toast with 1.5 tablespoons of PB.  This served as my pre-run snack (it was larger than normal because I ate it 1.5 hour before I left for my run).

A few hours before, I had 1/4 cup Kashi Pilaf and 1/2 cup NF Plain Yogurt.  Pilaf is another highly versatile grain!  I added a few (but not too many) chocolate chips to satisfy my sweet tooth.

Lunch

Yesterday’s lunch was yummy, but not very satisfying.  A very kind and smart reader pointed out that I was missing a key component to a satisfying lunch: healthy fat!  Today, I added cheese, which seemed to do the trick!

I had a Morning Star Veggie Burger and cheddar cheese open-faced on WW toast.  With a side spinach salad, it was the perfect lunch.

Mid-Morning Snack

I used the same nutrition trick for my mid-morning snack.  I initially reached for a bowl of juicy cantaloupe, but added in a handful of hazelnuts when I realized the fruit just wasn’t going to satisfy my growling tummy!

All in all, I had a great workout AND I enjoyed a perfect amount of healthy, delicious food… a pretty good day, even for a Tuesday! 🙂

I’m going to wake up early and go for a run.  I have a fun dinner with friends… yay for mid-week get togethers!

Wedding Madness

During my lunch break, I got so many little wedding errands done.  I signed a contract for a group block of hotel rooms (overlooking the beautiful Lake Eola in downtown Orlando) and worked on the wedding invites.  Less than 4 months to go! OH  MY!
