While You Were Sleeping

It’s a fact of parenthood:  when the kid goes down for a nap, you go into overdrive (or underdrive and go back to sleep…).  The babe is napping!  You can do ANYTHING you want!

As Henry drifted off into dreamland, I debated:  Did I want to read more of my book or bake a snack?  I decided to bake.

If you’ve never made Oh She Glows 5 Ingredient No Bake Vegan Date Squares, you must!  They are SO tasty and so, so easy.  I add chia seeds + vanilla extract to the base (making it 7 ingredients, I guess…).  Honestly, I think I’m going to have to freeze the remainder of the batch or else they will be gone by tonight.

Behind the scenes:

Photography happened after naptime was over, of course.

Back to my blissful mommy alone time… His nap actually lasted much, much longer than I expected it to, so I ended up having time to both bake AND read, cementing this morning as the. most. awesome. Saturday. ever.

I am currently reading Gretchen Powell’s new young adult novel Terra, and although I want to dedicate an entire blog post to the book when I’m done, let me say that it is simply AWESOME so far.

Love dystopian novels? Me too!  Check out Six Novels About Dystopias.

Eventually, Henry woke up, and he was all smiles.  We decided to take the dogs for a walk.  This is how we walk both dogs in the winter.

Henry wears footed pajamas and a $5 consignment snow suit, and I belt my jacket around the both of us – it’s kind of ridiculous, but it works.

Baby, it’s cold outside!

What are you guys doing this lovely Saturday morning?  Recovering from the holidays?  Traveling?  Reading? Baking?  Any running going on?  My long run is tomorrow!

So true – I’m the exact same way. Once Clara is down for a nap I debate either racing around the house getting a million things done, sitting my butt on the couch and zone out, or take a nap myself. :)

I want to check out a bjorn my boy prefers facing out but I’d more comfortable when he’s facing in… And Bjorne are some of the more affordable carriers IMO.. That’s a really great idea with belting the jacket over the baby ! We’re in Orlando so I’m sure you remember the winter weather in the AM and summery temps by Lunch :)

Hey Caitlin,

Henry is absolutely adorable :) He always puts a smile on my face!

It is a rainy day where I am…I even heard thunder this morning. I ‘m planning to make soup for the family, do some reading for my legal writing class and get in a workout.

By the way, have you mentioned the winner for the chocolate giveaway?

Have a great day!

It’s super snowy up north so I already have half a bottle of wine under my belt, and am getting ready to start on my second batch of cookies! Plan on doing some reading later. Currently reading “Fit from Within”, by Victoria Moran, which was a Christmas gift :)

He gets cuter every post! It’s snowing hard here, but I think we may still be headed out to another family Christmas celebration. Hopefully the roads don’t suck!

Congrats on your Women’s Running mention! Thank you for the book suggestion! I loved the Hunger Games and just haven’t found anything I like since then :(

If you like Dystopian novels, try America 2014 by Dawn Blair. Published in 2004, it was set only 10 years in the future, but the possibilities were frightening!

I loved The Handmaid’s Tale, and the Hunger Games books too.

Those date bars look yummy… must try them!

Amen to that! It’s especially nice when you can do everything you planned :)
Good luck with your long run! I’m training for my first full and did 15 miles this morning. I fin myself reading your training run posts to encourage me :)

Weather.com says that right now, Charlotte is 50 degrees and where I live near Buffalo, NY is 26 degrees, which isn’t all that cold to me. And we have almost a foot-and-a-half of new snow that has fallen over the past few days…I take my dogs out for walks on my property, and shovel, etc., and tonight we’re going out for a date night. I find kind of funny that you’re saying it’s so OMGCOLD, frankly.

I just started a Dystopian novel which got glowing reviews but it is so complex I am having a hard time visualizing the plot and characters. Could be because I am still in holiday mode though and just looking for an easy read.

It’s called The Windup Girl, maybe you’d really like it!!

Thanks for the book idea! I read Gretchen’s blog sometimes, but haven’t recently – I had no idea she’d published a book. I loved The Hunger Games series & some other dystopian novels, so I’m looking forward to reading his one (FYI – to anyone who’d like to read on Nook or Kindle – it’s only $4.99 right now :) ).
