Woah.  Monday is flying by.  How is it already time for lunch?

The Husband went on a grocery shopping extravaganza that included a trip to Costco, where he picked up a super pack of stuffed grape leaves – my favorite!

Weekly Workout Roundup

I’m going to start blogging my weekly workout summaries in order to hold myself accountable.  Not going to lie – it’s really hard to squeeze in workouts in between life, Henry, and work, so hopefully publishing these lists will motivate me to find the time!  Here’s the week of July 9:

Monday – Couch to 5K workout

Tuesday – 1.75 mile walk, 500 yard swim

Wednesday – Rest

Thursday – Couch to 5K workout

Friday – 3 mile walk

Saturday – Rest

Sunday – Couch to 5K workout

FAQ Mondays

How do you track your workouts?  I usually keep a list of my workouts on the fridge (knowing it’s ‘public’ motivates me), but lately, I’ll been using an Excel spreadsheet to track my exercise.

How many of the New York Times 100 Best Novels have you read and which was your favorite?  What book is missing?  I’ve read a mere 14!  And most were read while I was in high school.  Out of the list, my favorite is Lord of the Flies, but I think Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale should be on the list.

Do you have any nicknames?  For most of my life, I was known as Katie.  I have no idea why I’m Caitlin with a C and Katie with a K.  Anyway, all of my old friends and family members don’t call me Caitlin at all – I’m Katie.  The Husband called me Katie for the first few years of our relationship but transitioned to calling me Caitlin when I made the official switch post-college.  In terms of other nicknames, some people actually call me CaitlinHTP in real life – I also respond to simply ‘HTP.’  And the Husband calls me ‘babe.’  Hot stuff.

Your turn!  How do you track your workouts?  What books are missing on the best novels list?  And do you have any nicknames?

You should join daily mile. And be my friend there.

  • Hillary July 16, 2012, 2:36 pm

I have some really ridiculous nicknames. The best is “Celery,” which is what my neighbor called me when I was born. She was 3 and couldn’t pronounce “Hillary.” My dad still calls me Celery and has morphed it into Cell and, yes, Cell Phone. We’re such weirdos.

    • Maren July 16, 2012, 3:02 pm

I love when nicknames morph into something else!!

  • Alyse July 16, 2012, 2:39 pm

My feller calls me puddin’. 😉

I love DailyMile.com to keep track of my stuff.

  • Kristy Doyle July 16, 2012, 2:41 pm

I just blogged about how I track my workouts! I use the tried-and-true sharpie on the wall calendar method, but I’d like to do something that would keep track of my strength workouts as well.

  • Courtney @BrusselSproutsandBeer July 16, 2012, 2:43 pm

I track my workouts/runs on the MapMyRun iphone app and love it. My nickname is horrible…my Dad starting calling me “Spuds” after Spuds Mackenzie, the beer dog. It has been my nickname ever since!

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) July 16, 2012, 2:44 pm

I like nicknames. Some people call me “Jo”, some family members call me “Joey”, and my man calls me “cookie” usually 🙂

  • Janel July 16, 2012, 2:46 pm

How do you get your dr praegers burgers nice and crispy on the outside – pan fry? They’re best when they’re crisped but it takes so long in the toaster oven!

    • CaitlinHTP July 16, 2012, 8:25 pm

      yup! fried in the pan.

  • Katie @ Peace Love & Oats July 16, 2012, 2:47 pm

Haha my nickname is Katie! Although it’s from Kathryn, which is my actual first name. And I wish my day were flying by! I’m literally counting down the minutes until the workday is over… 3 hours and 13 minutes to go.

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat July 16, 2012, 2:47 pm

I did a Costco run this weekend too! As for workout tracking, I usually use a notebook that I keep in my gym bag. I find if I go in with a plan, I’m about 99% more likely to commit myself to a tougher workout! As for nicknames, the expected ones – Angie and Ange. (I prefer the latter – only family calls me Angie!)

  • Erin @ erinberries July 16, 2012, 2:48 pm

My nickname is Erin Berin. I’ve been called it since I was a kid. Not really shortened. But, really, how can you shorten Erin? Er? In? I don’t know…it’s just not possible.

  • Rachel July 16, 2012, 2:52 pm

I’ve read 41 – so far. Some for school, but most for fun. All of the ones that I have read were great reads, but my favorite is Lolita. I think American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis should be on the list.

I track my workouts along with my eating in a little datebook.

    My favorite nickname is Rach.

  • Megan R July 16, 2012, 2:55 pm

I track my workouts 2 ways: 1) I use an app called LoseIt. This tracks my food and my workouts. 2) I have a page on my blog to track my workouts (http://geeksparkle.com/workout-log/) This allows me to go back and see what I’ve done, how I’ve felt and- since I have to see it every time I add a work out or take a day off- I can see when I’m starting to slack.

  • Rachel O. July 16, 2012, 2:56 pm

i track my workouts on every calendar i have – phone, work calendar, running calendar, kitchen calendar and daily mile. that way everywhere i look i cannot hide from it!

i never had a nickname growing up. my mom is a school teacher and paid a lot of attention to a name that didn’t rhyme or sound funny – Rachel doesn’t rhyme with anything. Very rarely some people have called me “rach.” and in college when there were like 150 Rachel’s I sometimes answered to my last name “Oliver”

  • Heather July 16, 2012, 2:57 pm

I use dailymile.com to track workouts. nicknames: heather feather, heath, heath bar, etc. etc. nothing all that creative.

  • Maren July 16, 2012, 3:00 pm

I have been printing off my workouts and keeping them in a binder lately. I am doing the Jamie Eason Live Fit trainer, so I wanted to write my lifts down so I remember how much I’ve improved.

I’ve read few of the books on that list too! Better get on that! I loved The Great Gatsby and can’t wait to see the movie!

I used to babysit a little boy that couldn’t say Maren, so he called me Mar-Mar. Well, it stuck because all of my close friends and family call me Mar-Mar or Mar. I never thought there’d be a way to shorten my name and I love having the nickname now! 🙂

  • Veronica July 16, 2012, 3:04 pm

    What a delicious lunch!
I’m impressed you’ve gotten as much exercise in as you have. Wow. But then again…this is CaitlinHTP we’re talking about! (People really call you that??)

My nickname is Vern. But only my immediate family and a few friends call me that. It gives me warm fuzzies when I hear it because the people that care about me the most use it.
To everyone else, I’m just Veronica. My husband calls me “honey” or “baby.”

I’m not a fan of shortened names. People have tried to call my son, Christian, “Chris.” It bothers me! Isn’t “Chris” more appropriate for Christopher? Anyway…

As for nicknames that aren’t derived from a person’s name, I’m all for it! I’ve nicknamed my three good friends Sunshine, G.I. and Drakesma. It’s fun to have an “inside” nickname with someone. It creates a bond.

Do you have any non-Caitlin derived nicknames?

    • CaitlinHTP July 16, 2012, 8:26 pm

Nope – I guess I’m not a nicknamable person! LOL

  • Alice July 16, 2012, 3:08 pm

I’m not currently raising a newborn so I really admire how you’re even attempting to do exercise! I know I would probably use it as an excuse not to! 😉 keep it up – you’ll reap the benefits in the long term!

As for nicknames, my only one is La. Nope – I don’t know why either! 😛

  • Liz July 16, 2012, 3:08 pm

I’ve also read 14 – and I was an English major! I have some reading to do!!!!

My fiance calls me “Pie tin” even though I insist that I am only a “pie” and not a tin. He threatened to propose marriage by saying “will you be my pie tin?” because he knows I will have to say yes, thus forever committing myself to pie-tinniness, but thankfully he did not. Sometimes he’ll say “I love you, Pie…” and then whisper tin so that I won’t catch him, again, thus admitting I am a tin, but I always catch him.

This story makes us sound so weird.

  • Breanne July 16, 2012, 3:13 pm

I track my workouts on Google Calendar – it holds me accountable since other people can see it. I sometimes track on dailymile, mapmyrun, and myfitnesspal, but those are less consistent.

I would put Little Women on the list.

I have a TON of nicknames – Bleach, Bree, Bean, Breezie, B, BB. Bree is probably used most often/by the most number of people, followed by Bleach.

My sister is also a Kaitlin and she was Katie to everyone until Kindergarten when she told her teacher “My name is Kaitlin NOT Katie.” Then, we ALL stopped calling her Katie except for the grandmas. She’s been Kaitlin to almost every since. There’s a handful of us that are allowed to call her Kate.

  • Jenny July 16, 2012, 3:17 pm

I track my workouts on PeerTrainer. I definitely agree that “A Handmaid’s Tale” should be on there even though my favorite Atwood novel is “Oryx and Crake.” My old work nickname is j.Ro (yes, after j.Lo) and everyone still calls me that even though I haven’t worked at that place in years. My brother also calls me Woodbooger and I call him Squatch (lesson: don’t get drunk with your brother while watching Bigfoot Hunters, the sasquatch monikers will stick).

  • Kelly July 16, 2012, 3:19 pm

My husband and my Mom call me “Kel”. They are the only two people who ever have, and so, it’s strange to me when others do it. AND…it irks me to no end when strangers or people I barely know whip out “Kel”. It presumptuous!

  • Jillian July 16, 2012, 3:25 pm

Good luck with your workouts!! I look forward to seeing how you share them!!

  • Cindy July 16, 2012, 3:26 pm

Wow, I consider myself very well read, and I’ve only read 2! I’m embarrassed!

I track my workouts on dailymile, but I think I should start using a spreadsheet to track my progress better.

  • Stephanie July 16, 2012, 3:27 pm

I made a Google Docs form to track my workouts, seriously. It dumps the information directly into a spreadsheet for me, and tracks a bunch of things for me. I was inspired by my very own Summer Fitness Challenge, where if I work out 75 times between Memorial Day and Labor Day, I’m buying myself a new handbag! Almost there!

  • Laine July 16, 2012, 3:29 pm

Laine is my nickname. Everyone in my family and who meets me through my family (in laws, nieces, nephews) calls me Laine. It’s not a name I introduce myself as though. Except on blogs.

    My friends call me Leanimal.

I track my workouts on a paper calendar with gold stars.

  • Lea @ Greens and Coffee Beans July 16, 2012, 3:30 pm

Lea is actually my nickname. My full name is Leonora but I never go by it.
I use a combo of SlimKicker and Daily Mile to track my workouts. I like SlimKicker because it gives you points for every minute you do cardio and sets of weights you lift. I like Daily Mile for tracking my running mileage.

  • Laura July 16, 2012, 3:38 pm

I used to be obsessed with sweet-n-low and my fiance calls me “Sug”, short for sugar. I kicked my artificial sweetener habit but the name stuck. I love it hehe.

  • Michaela July 16, 2012, 3:40 pm

Ever since I was born, everyone has called me Cayla instead of Michaela. Don’t ask me where the spelling came from. The story is my grandmother and her girlfriends thought of it one day. When I started graduate school, I wanted to make the switch to my full name, Michaela. So now I have half the people in my life still calling me by my nickname and the other half calling me by my full name. It’s rather confusing. I wish my parents had just called me Michaela from the start.

  • Kendra @ My Full-Thyme Life July 16, 2012, 3:55 pm

Oh, nicknames! How do I love thee??? Nicknames are my fav. My hubby and I have names for eachother but one of my favs is Kendi. But my childhood nickname is Kenge. Not sure where my friend at the time got this little gem but it has stuck since middle school! I think it is because if you say Kendra really fast the n-d-r sounds like “g.” At least I think that’s where she got it. But I have to say, giving people nicknames is kind of my specialty. Often times those nicknames are even accompanied by a little jingle. I’ve given nicknames to peopl years and years ago and they still go by them! It’s a gift. 😉

Speaking of… what are your thoughts on Henry going by Hank someday? Do you and Kristien like Hank or are you going to do your best to keep that precious bundle Henry all the way?

    • CaitlinHTP July 16, 2012, 8:27 pm

      No no Hank!!!

      • Jen July 16, 2012, 11:56 pm

The name Hank makes me think of King of the Hill. In other words, wise decision Caitlin, haha

I’ve gone by Jen since 3rd or 4th grade, but my parents and sisters still call me Jenny most of the time.

      • Kendra @ My Full-Thyme Life July 17, 2012, 10:33 am

Ha! I know what you mean. As my hubby and I are trying to come up with a name for #2 we always consider what nicknames could they be called and if we don’t care for it, how can we ensure they don’t end up going by that!

  • KatieTX July 16, 2012, 3:58 pm

I teach aerobics, so I track my workouts by my paychecks 🙂

I am the only person I know with “Katie” as the name on their birth certificate!

I actually don’t like nicknames and plan on naming my kids short simple names.

My husband has a nickname, and it has just gotten confusing in the post college switch to his work name. He said he would prefer to just have one; so that is what we are going for with our future children.

  • Mikael July 16, 2012, 4:25 pm

Ack… I’ve only read 3 on that list (and yes, it was for school). That’s pretty embarrassing. I need to get on that!

As for workouts, I track them on MyFitnessPal when I remember. I try to schedule everything around them so I never miss my workout. I love them too much.

Your quinoa and veggie side looks delightful! Do you have any tips on cooking quinoa? I haven’t tried yet, but that’s because a lot of people say it’s easy to make then others say it’s easy to screw up. And I love the stuff, so it’d be nice to do it myself. 🙂

    • Breanne July 16, 2012, 5:02 pm

Quinoa is super simple – give it a shot. 🙂

I’m sure there are other ways, but I do double the liquid (i.e. 1 C quinoa and 2 C water or 2 C water/broth, etc), bring to a boil, and then cover/lower heat and simmer for 30 minutes (or until all the liquid is absorbed).

  • Melissa July 16, 2012, 4:31 pm

Hi! Are Dr Praeger’s veggie burgers gluten free? Where do you buy them? Thx!

    • CaitlinHTP July 16, 2012, 8:27 pm

Yup! We get ours at Trader Joe’s but they have them in a lot of stores.

  • Kate-just Kate July 16, 2012, 4:31 pm

My parents intentionally named my sister and I with one syllable names that can’t be made into nicknames. But for whatever reason people I meet, usually when taking an order, in a fitting room, or meeting someone new refuse to hear Kate and call me Katie instead. I hate to correct them and fear I come across as rude but my name is officially just Kate, and I like it that way 🙂

  • Alicia July 16, 2012, 4:41 pm

FYI the Costco diapers are great. Made by the Huggies people and are exactly the same, as far as I can tell.

  • Chelsea July 16, 2012, 5:02 pm

I track my workouts in my planner 🙂 I live by that thing!

  • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed July 16, 2012, 5:13 pm

My parents gave me my name because it didn’t have an automatic nickname… they wanted me to be called Amber. Well my friends are creative: A, Ambs, Amby, Ber, Ambertha, Hamburger, Amburglar, Ambelchalot… yeah lol.

  • Jaki (Slim Down U) July 16, 2012, 5:16 pm

Your lunch looked delicious. I don’t track my workouts. I just know that each day I am going to get in some kind of activity and the pup helps with that because I know we will get a few walks each day.

  • Margaret July 16, 2012, 5:27 pm

My parents overthought the naming, and gave me and my sister “adult” names but planned on shortening them to “kid” names while we were growing up. So I was called Meg growing up, but got tired of two things: (1) informing people that I went by Meg if they got my name from something official (like class list at the beginning of the school year), and (2) people assuming it was short for Megan – as some people have mentioned it’s annoying when people are presumptuous and call you by a nickname that you feel only people close to you should use – but it’s also annoying when people are trying to *not* be presumptuous, and when they hear your parent call you Meg, figure they should be more formal and call you Megan… except that your name isn’t Megan.

When I started college (350 miles from where I grew up), I started going by Margaret. Except my parents couldn’t make the switch… even though it was their plan along for the last 18 years, they were too used to calling me Meg! They tried but couldn’t stop!

A few roommates and close friends met in the post-high school era caught onto it from my parents, and use either Meg or Margaret. Some pre-college friends seem to have mostly switched to Margaret, I think because that’s what they’re used to seeing on facebook.

  • Liz @ Tip Top Shape July 16, 2012, 5:28 pm

I’ve started tracking mine on my refrigerator. I pass it all the time, so it keeps me accountable.

  • Nicole July 16, 2012, 5:30 pm

I consider myself decently well read but I have only read 4 of those books! That just seems embarrassing!

I need to figure out a way to consistently track workouts because I think that would be helpful, I will be watching the comments!

  • Jolene (Homespun Heritage) July 16, 2012, 5:36 pm

No nicknames..in fact, I bug my husband a bit at times because he never says my name nor does he have a nickname for me. Strange, huh?

  • Lee July 16, 2012, 5:47 pm

Lee is a nickname. My real name is Leidra but I never go by it. My mom also calls me Lulu but I don’t have any other nicknames! Actually, at my first job, there were several other Lee’s, so they ended up calling me Thal, which was the last syllable of my maiden name. Haha. I kind of forgot about that.

  • Moni Meals July 16, 2012, 6:11 pm

    Happy monday!!
    Your meals look so good.
Yes I have many nicknames “Moni” is the most common OR even better…”MON BON GOT IT GOING ON!” that one takes the cake, no!?!? 😉

  • Rachel July 16, 2012, 6:32 pm

I track my workouts on a monthly calendar I write on each week and then add up my totals and see trends over time. It’s really not very systematic, like a lot of people are.

I’ve read over 30 of the books on the NY List (I knew the exact number but I forgot it as I typed the first sentence!). At one point (nerd alert) I was going to attempt to read all the books, but so many of the books on the list aren’t good! I’m not sure what criteria they used to pick them, but they are a lot of bad books on that list. If I was picking a list of top 100 books, I think I would keep about 2 or 3 of theirs. And Ulysses (which I’ve read) does not deserve to be number 1….EVER! My favorite book on the list is The Great Gatsby. I didn’t understand it in high school, but when I reread it I fell in love with it. I actually have a tattoo inspired by the book.

I have to disagree with you on The Handmaid’s Tale. I really disliked it, but to each her own and that’s what makes books so amazing that one person can get so much out (and connect) to a book and another person won’t.

  • Marci July 16, 2012, 6:39 pm

You are doing really great at exercise! I have been steady at 4 days/week of exercise plus daily up and down and carrying and bouncing baby not included. I don’t like exercising with baby (and it’s too hot in Houston in summer), so those four days are the ones when I can get away for an hour or so.

  • Cara July 16, 2012, 6:46 pm

Speaking of nicknames, why do you refer to your husband as ‘The Husband’? It sounds so contrived and condescending. Why not ‘my husband’, or better yet, by his actual name?!

    • CaitlinHTP July 16, 2012, 8:28 pm

I call him The Husband because his name is Kristien and it looks like a girl’s name, which would be incredibly confusing for new readers.

      • Kelly July 17, 2012, 9:23 am

I love you, Caitlin, I do, but this comment sort of seems hypocritical given all the “gender” bending rules you’ve put into play concerning Henry. So, you think your own husband’s name is too “girly” therefore, you won’t use it on the blog? Hmmmm. That is calling the kettle black for sure. Seems VERY unlike you, and like I said, given all the fuss you’ve made about putting your SON in clothes socially labeled “girly”, it doesn’t make sense and really makes me, as a reader, question your motives behind that. This is not meant to be negative or critical – as I said – I adore you and your blog and most of what you say. I just wanted to point out how your answer to this questions comes across.

        • CaitlinHTP July 17, 2012, 9:26 am

It looks like Kristen. When I do call him Kristien, I inevitably get comments from new readers about who is Kristen. It’s for simplicity’s sake; not everyone who reads my blog is a regular reader, it has nothing to do with gender’s issues.

I haven’t made a fuss about putting Henry in girl’s clothes (??). I put him in a pink swaddle and didn’t even say anything in the post about it and explained in the comments section I chose it because the blue one was ugly.

          • Kelly July 17, 2012, 4:29 pm

Fare enough, but that’s his name – nothing to be ashamed of – or something that would be too much to explain.

And, when I said “fuss” – I just meant that you have put a lot of emphasis on not having “typical” clothing or colors or even toys for your child – boy or girl.

Like I said, not a hater comment AT ALL – thanks for replying in a kind and non-defensive way.

  • Sam @ Better With Sprinkles July 16, 2012, 7:03 pm

For workouts, I kept a document on my laptop, until my laptop crashed. I started keeping them in one of those old composition books – something refreshingly old school in that 🙂

My full name is Samantha, but I’ve always gone by Sam. Whenever I hear myself being called by my full name, I always thought I was in trouble (either from a teacher/principal when I was younger, to bosses when I got older)

  • Megan S July 16, 2012, 7:32 pm

I’ve only read four of the novels on that list! For shame…
My husband calls me lady. I call him muffin pants. I started calling the cat puss pants (as in ‘whose got their puss pants on?’- duh.) and then shortly after, the phrase muffin pants popped out of my mouth when speaking to my husband and I’ve been calling him that ever since. I don’t even like it, it’s just what comes out when I talk to him:)

  • Abby July 16, 2012, 7:55 pm

I have a lot of people in my life who love to nickname. Ab, Abs, Abberdabberdo (thank goodness this has passed), Yabbers, Yabs. And my boyfriend who calls me Little Bear, Abstract, Abasmell, etc. etc. Not to mention Abby is short for Abigail!

  • Amanda (modernation) July 16, 2012, 8:30 pm

Costco has grape leaves? I must get some. I have been obsessed with them lately. To track my workouts, I print out sheets with a table for each week. Columns for days of the week, two rows for cardio and strength. I write down my goal total for each and then track away. It is nice to set a goal for minutes of cardio and number of days for strength training. That way when I want to skip a workout, I think about what that will do to my average and how I will have to make it up somewhere later in the week to hit my goal. It usually makes me go.

  • Sarah July 16, 2012, 8:31 pm

I get banksy a lot, my maiden name is banks and i have a close friend name sarah. other then that i guess its hard for a nickname to spur from sarah 🙂 ps. LOVE GRAPE LEAVES

  • Irina @ Chocolatea Time July 16, 2012, 8:32 pm

One of my bucket list items is to read through all 100 of the must-reads (I think my list is slightly different than the one you linked to though). Still working through it slowly but surely 🙂

  • Katie July 16, 2012, 8:40 pm

The Handmaid’s Tale is like my favorite book ever! I read it in high school.

I’m a Kathryn, but I’ve gone by Katie all my life. How sophisticated that you transitioned back to Caitlin! Sometimes I think I’d like to go by Kathryn, but literally everyone knows me as Katie.

  • luv what you do July 16, 2012, 10:24 pm

Have you tried the Praegers curry burgers yet??? They are great. BTW, how do you like to make them. I liked the crusty edge!

  • Laura @ The Bright Side July 17, 2012, 2:18 am

I’ve read several from that list, but really remember loving:
    The Catcher in the Rye
    The Grapes of Wrath
The Great Gatsby (cannot wait for the movie)

The list is totally missing Love in the Time of Cholera, my all-time favorite book.

Some people call me Laurita, Not too cool or fun. I don’t track my workouts, but I should start. I like the idea of it.

  • Alison July 17, 2012, 8:26 am

I was Ali until university, my family and friends still call me Ali but everyone else including my husband call me Alison…. I think the choice was simple- when I arrived at my dorm the first day my door said Alison and that’s how I introduced myself… I think I like Alison more anyways 🙂

  • Lindsey @ Pas de Deux July 17, 2012, 9:32 am

I’m impressed with your 14 books read from the list! I’ve read 9, and my husband has read 5. I guess we need to get reading some of these “classics”, huh? Thanks for sharing!

  • Lauren T July 17, 2012, 11:51 am

I don’t track my workouts as of now, but I really should I know. I just started getting back into a real workout routine, so I guess that should be the next thing I figure out.
The only nicknames I have are from my guy. My favorite is booberry. We started calling each other boo as a joke because we were trying to tap into our ghetto side, but it just evolved from there. Then one day he called me booberry and it stuck haha.

I have only read 6 of those books! All from when I was school and I think it’s sad that I actually haven’t even heard of most of the ones on the list. But I’ve read plenty of other books!

I have had various nicknames: Ambergur, Amster, and Ambo. All courtesy of male family members who found it hilarious that I can’t stand any of those names!

I’ve only read 13 from the list all the way through but still consider myself fairly well read. I love the USA Trilogy, but it really shouldn’t be lumped into one collection. Overall it’s not a bad list, but I think it’s in serious need of updating. Some of those books were trendy when the list was created (almost 15 years ago!) and aren’t any more.

My nicknames growing up somehow involved animals. My dad called me monkey. Then there was giraffe at an awkward growing stage and then gazelle for how I pranced down the basketball court – yup, I’m the tall one.

For the workouts, I just can’t decide. I had a physical book for a while, but now that I’ve finished it nothing is really working for me. I’ve settled on an Evernote file for now, but I’m not really happy with it.

I have a B.A. and M.A. in English literature, and this year I finished my first year teaching AP English Language. Yet, somehow I’ve only read 10 books on that list! In my defense, I’ve read many of the authors’ other works and my concentration was poetry, not novels.

I didn’t count how many I’ve read of the 100 books, but not that many considering I’m a HUGE reader! Two books that should definitely be on the list are Gone with the Wind & A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Probably my favorites from the list are Catcher in the Rye & The Great Gatsby.

My nickname is/was Tootsie. I was called that til I was 9 or 10 and then started to go by my given name. (I didn’t realize til I was a grown-up that it’s usually a nickname for an elderly person). My mom and some of my aunts still called me Toots. It’s from the song “In the Good Ole Summer Time,” which my dad would sing to me as a baby. I love nicknames and my mom nicknames everyone. She has called all of her grandbabies Buggle Snugs, which I think is adorable. My nephew is Henry and we call him Hank. 🙂
