I’m having a bad morning.  That’s why I’m going to post lots of pretty pictures of flowers and breathe deeply.

We’ll throw in a puppy shot for good measure.

IMG_3573

And a pretty little horsey.

IMG_3622

And hell, I think we need a wedding shot in the mix, too.

Too bad I don’t have pictures of furry kittens, rainbows, winning lottery tickets, and newborn babies on my desktop, too.

Update:  Jess just sent me a photo of her kittens.

IMG_2186

I feel better already.  🙂

Breakfast:

IMG_4960

This creation sounded better in my head.

I made French toast with one egg and one thick piece of whole wheat bread, topped it with a grilled banana, and drizzled honey Greek yogurt on top.  It was good; the ratio of yogurt to bread was just too high.

Let’s see if we can create a list of hundreds of reasons to be happy today.  Everyone comment with one thing that makes them happy!  I’ll start.

Dachshund feet.

    Coffee with real cream.

    • Katie in DC November 2, 2010, 10:36 am

I guess I should read the comments before I post, this was number one on my list, too!

      • Erin November 2, 2010, 10:40 am

No-coffee with cream can never be praised too much!

    • Ashley November 2, 2010, 2:09 pm

I recently started allowing myself to drink real cream in my coffee and have to agree. It makes the biggest difference, sooo worth it.

      • ms November 2, 2010, 3:43 pm

mm dumb question…but does real cream = half and half? or does it mean heavy whipping cream?

        • Ashley November 2, 2010, 5:11 pm

to me real cream = half and half

  • Anne November 2, 2010, 10:07 am

I’m happy, because my wedding dress came in.

You should be happy, because it’s getting to be that time of year with plenty of parties with families and friends. January 1 will be here before you know it!

  • Sara November 2, 2010, 10:08 am

    Buffy.

    • Caitlin November 2, 2010, 10:10 am

      The vampire slayer?

this dialog just made me laught so much 🙂
          cute doggy name!

        • Sara November 2, 2010, 10:59 am

Thanks! She came with it and we liked it, so we kept it. She’s buff white, there are OODLES of photos on my blog 🙂

        • Irina G November 2, 2010, 1:26 pm

HAH! I thought “the vampire slayer” too! Well… you can argue that SHE makes people happy too. Ya know, by killing evil things…

        • Sara November 2, 2010, 3:35 pm

True! 🙂 I always had Buffy in mind from the show “Family Affair” so I never think of Buffy the Vampire Slayer … whoops 🙂 I’m glad my comment made people smile!!

  • Jamie @ Food in Real Life November 2, 2010, 10:09 am

    The cooler weather!

  • aubrey @ italktofood November 2, 2010, 10:09 am

One thing that makes me happy:

When complete strangers smile and say hello when walking down the street.

Cheer up buttercup! It’s okay to be in a bad mood, it won’t last forever.

I believe bad moods are necessary for you to appreciate good moods!

    • Nicole @ Geek Turned Athlete November 2, 2010, 11:13 am

Oh good. I’m one of those freaks who waves and says hi to everyone when I’m running. I don’t always get a response back. It’s good to know someone likes it! haha

      • aubrey @ italktofood November 2, 2010, 11:23 am

haha, that’s my favorite! I love morning runs because all the other active people are out and about too.

Even though some people don’t respond, I think they still feel warm inside

      • Tasha - The Clean Eating Mama November 2, 2010, 3:21 pm

YUP!! I am another one who waves and smiles at other runners or walkers on the trail/road I am on. =)

      • CookTeen November 2, 2010, 4:43 pm

I’m one of those too! Fellow runners, bikers and crossing guards are usually the witnesses of my dorky running smiles. I like to think that my smile, thank you or wave can impact someone’s day.

        • aubrey @ italktofood November 2, 2010, 5:45 pm

it’s the small nice gestures you do in a day that impacts others. I completely agree.

Next time someone doesn’t smile or wave back I am going to think of you guys!

  • Katie November 2, 2010, 10:10 am

I’m happy because I’m off to Fiji in about an hour’s time – yippee!

Oh and I’m happy that you’re so pro-ginger on your blog…. it’s nice to see that some people are tolerant (presumably your husband will have had some abuse too, growing up in England as a ginga like me?!)

Here’s another thing that makes me happy – my little girl (who’s three), telling me “Mummy, I love you enormous, enormous, enormous!” I think she’s referring to loving me lots, rather than saying that I’m enormous…. at least I hope so! Mind you, she did congratulate me after the half-marathon by saying “Well done Mummy – but why did you come last?”! (For the record, I didn’t…..)

    Have a happy day honey!

    • Hope November 2, 2010, 5:30 pm

lol your comment made me laugh – I love the things that kids say!
Have fun in Fiji, we went for our honeymoon and it was fabulous!! BULA!

  • Cyndi Eggers November 2, 2010, 10:12 am

Post marathon blues? Lack of sunlight? Don;t let it get to you whatever it is. Do what makes you feel good today, even if it’s nothing. Hope you’re feeling better soon.
When I’m down, a good sweaty workout does the trick – the natural endorphin rush does me good. Heading out after some work for my share.

My dogs dressed in Halloween costumes: a blowfish and a turtle. I don’t really believe in dressing dogs, but something got into me this year…. BTW, they loved the costumes; I think the costumes keep them warm like a little jacket.

Running pain-free, finally after 5 long months.

I love yogi teas, half because they taste good (I am drinking kombucha) and half because they come with a contemplative message on every bag. I am actually not 100% sure what my message means today: “Without realizing who you are, happiness cannot come to see you.”

    • Gloria November 2, 2010, 1:02 pm

I love yogi tea too! Today mine is “To be healthy: eat right, walk right and talk to yourself right.” I love your quote. It’s so true that you have to find and love yourself in order to fully love others and bring the things that are going to make you happy into your life!

One thing that makes me insanely happy is running with my sister! She and I started running around the same time and we did our first race together (the Baltimore Half-Marathon). We often joke about how far we’ve come and how little we knew when we started. I remember at that first race we were amazed that people could run so far…at the time we didn’t realize there was such a thing as training. She is my best friend and favorite person to run with, so any time spent with her makes me happy!

I’ve been having a crappy MONTH… dealing with my grandfather’s illness and recent death has been harder than I anticipated, HOWEVER, I love this post because it does really help to remind yourself of the things you have to be thankful for. My list includes:

    Green Mountain Pumpkin Spice Coffee
low cal ginger cats are a great treat
    family game nights
laying low with my boyfriend, cuddled under a fleece-backed t-shirt quilt with our cat
the way I feel after running
the love I get from people who know and support me
the ability to make a difference in my students’ lives
    feeling appreciated

Perhaps you and your readers want to join the Thankful movement. A blogger I know and love started to post a picture each day of something she was thankful for to help her get through the sadness she felt after a miscarriage.

Here’s her blog (well… the about page) that started it all: http://krissieisthankful.com/about/

Now there’s a facebook group that started when a few college kids heard about it and wanted to play along and more than 2 dozen bloggers, including myself, have followed suit.

And, running water — and access to an abundance of water. My sister moved to Kenya and has no running water. She has to wash her hair in a bucket (and bathe in the same bucket). She told me it takes 30 minutes to purify a glass of water. She said she misses just walking up to the tap to fill her glass.

It warmed my heart to see this today. As my buddy Tina (commenter #185) mentioned, I started a thankful blog in September when I needed to see pretty little things to bring me out of my funk on a daily basis. I cannot tell you how much it has totally changed my attitude – just looking for something beautiful to remind me that my world is beautiful.

I have been shocked at the response. At the people who have started similar blogs. Who are posting daily pictures on their own blogs and facebook.

It also helps that I have a blog to call home when I decided to stop blogging at my old home of almost 4 years. I wanted to leave all that behind.

So thanks for the pictures. Weddings and cats always make me smile.

And, in a little while, I’ll post a picture of my argyle tights and start looking for the next thankful thing.

fostering kittens from the shelter (making them better when sick and turning them back in for adoption). Total sense of accomplishment in helping to save lives… even if they are animals.

  • Eliza November 2, 2010, 5:04 pm

I am a nanny for 3 little boys. Last night we went for a walk to the park and one little boy tripped over, and started crying after I had told him not to run. Then the dog ran away. An elderly couple who was watching us started to giggle, and the 5 year old pointed out “eliza, that old lady is laughing”. The old lady heard and started laughing even more, it was very funny.
