Wedding Details: Music!

So, Future Husband and I are really excited about getting married(obviously), but we also very excited to throw a rockin’ party. The DJ and the photographer were the two things I was willing to drop a lot of music on.  The DJ is really great!

We are about two weeks late in preparing our "Wedding Ceremony Planner" and "Reception Planner" for the DJ.  Basically, we have the tell him the key songs we’d like played on our big day, and the rest we leave in his capable and creative hands.  Here are the key selections:

Ceremony Music

  • Processional (when the bridesmaids and groomsmen walk down the aisle): Canon in D by Pachebel

  • Bride’s EntranceWedding March by Canadian Brass

(Can’t find a video on YouTube but it’s basically the "Here comes the bride" song with brass instruments.  It’s on iTunes.)

  • Recessional (right after the officiant announces "You may kiss the bride!" and everyone cheers): "All You Need is Love" by The Beatles

Reception Music

  • Announcing the bridal party:  "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor

  • Introduction of Mr. and Mrs. Future Husband and See Bride Run:  "Rocky Theme Song" by Bill Conti

  • Cake Cutting Song: "This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)" by Natalie Cole

  • Future Husband Gets My Garter: "Let’s Get It On" by Marvin Gaye

  • Bouquet Toss: "Bad" by Michael Jackson

  • Garter Toss: "Bad Boys" by Inner Circle

  • Last Dance Song:  "Unchained Melody" by Righteous Brothers (this is our song)

We are still deciding on the mother and son dance and the father and daughter dance songs. :)  Any not corny suggestions (no "Wind Beneath My Wings," please)?

Have a great day!!

    Fun, festive oats!!

    BEAUTIFUL MUSIC SELECTIONS!!

For the mother/daughter dance, have you heard the song, “Because You Love Me” by Celine Dion??

  • Erica November 24, 2008, 6:07 am

Cute post! Love all of the details. I say go for songs that mean something to you guys (not necessarily something whose words are very mother/daughterish). I danced with my dad to a song we use to listen to in the car when I was little!

  • SingErin13 November 24, 2008, 6:09 am

Father/Daughter dance – I sang “Your Song” by Elton John in my best friend’s wedding. Instead of saying “I’d buy a big house where we both could live” I said “I’d buy a big house where you both could live”, hence her dad buying them a house, hahaha. It was really cute.

Mother/Son dance – Blackbird – By The Beatles – I shoot weddings and the mother and son danced to this and it was soooo cute! Or “Here Comes The Sun” by the Beatles!

Van Morrison “These are the days” is also good for either!!!” Check it out. It makes me cry every time I hear it

I hate the cheesy songs to, hope this sparked some ideas for you!

    Love your blog!

  • D10 November 24, 2008, 6:22 am

Sounds like you guys are going to have an awesome time. My father and I danced to “the way you look tonight” Frank Sinatra.

  • Lyss November 24, 2008, 6:26 am

For my father/daughter dance I’m doing My Girl by the Temptations. It’s not corny or overly mushy. My dad and I aren’t extremely close, so I knew I didn’t want anything sappy, creepy or LONG. I think it’s a great song that the whole crowd with love.

    I love your music selections!

  • Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) November 24, 2008, 6:32 am

Wow, great job on the music selection. That does sound like the makings of a beautiful wedding and an awesome party!

Also, *thank you* so much for suggesting “In Defense of Food”. I’m about half-way through and really enjoying it. It is a very eye-opening read. 🙂

  • Colleen November 24, 2008, 7:17 am

I let my Daddy choose our song to dance to at our wedding and he chose “Isn’t she Lovely” by Stevie Wonder. It was really sweet! And the song wasn’t too slow so Daddy and I really DANCED! 🙂

  • Meghann November 24, 2008, 7:25 am

Thanks for your advice. I think I am just going to do 11 or 12 miles on thanksgiving and just take it easy from there. 🙂

P.S. What were you doing up so early, I thought you had today off?

  • girlrunningaround November 24, 2008, 7:29 am

    Great song choices.

We chose “My little girl” by Tim McGraw of the Father Daughter dance. And Hubby’s mom chose “In my life” by the Beatles for the Mother Son dance.

  • Bridget November 24, 2008, 7:44 am

Your wedding sounds like it’s going to be a really fun party 🙂

  • seeleelive (for the love of peanut butter) November 24, 2008, 7:49 am

I love that Natalie Cole song. Thank you SOO SO SO SO MUCH for sharing these details with us, Caitlin! It is so special. A really cute song is Rod Stewart’s Your in My heart or the cranberry’s Linger!

  • Tami November 24, 2008, 7:59 am

i danced to with my dad, i love you just the way you are by billy joel. i have a funny relationship with him so this was my way of stating it (some people noticed!)

  • Rebecca November 24, 2008, 8:08 am

    The oatmeal looks amazing!

Love the songs too…for father daughter, “my girl”. I’ve been to several weddings where that has been the song and it gets me everytime.

  • Megs November 24, 2008, 8:17 am

Try My Wish by Rascal Flats and I hope you dance by Leanne Womack.

  • Betsy November 24, 2008, 8:19 am

ok…I LOVE Unchained Melody! I’m so excited you’re using that…It’s one of my favorite songs ever. I have no other suggestions though. Sorry. 🙁

  • Lacey Nicole November 24, 2008, 8:19 am

I WATCH THAT SCENE FROM GHOST on repeat, the song and the looove just get me every time 🙂 GREAT JOB 8-MILER!! woo woo, pile it on! 🙂

  • Marathon Maritza November 24, 2008, 8:42 am

I really love the lyrics to Paul Simon’s “Father Daughter” song…check that one out. 🙂

  • MacDuff November 24, 2008, 9:37 am

My cousin played that song “Butterfly Kisses” when she danced with her dad, and everyone bawled.

  • Sara November 24, 2008, 9:41 am

Great music selections! Choosing the music for your wedding is so fun.

My dad and I danced to “In My Life” by the Beatles, but my second choice was “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Iz. My hubby and his mom danced to “The Wedding Coat.” It’s a very cheesy, but very sweet song about a mother’s love her for son and her happiness on his wedding day.

  • Halie November 24, 2008, 9:50 am

Awesome music selection! Playing the Beatles after you kiss sounds like something out of a movie! I like the sense of humor with your selections too! You are going to have an awesome wedding!

for my father/daughter dance I did a really upbeat song – I was not interested in making people cry!

  • Oh She Glows November 24, 2008, 9:51 am

    Ohh picking music was tough!!!

I walked down tot he isle to a violinist and flutist playing Pachabel in Canon D. It was beautiful!

  • Sharney November 24, 2008, 10:03 am

Wow, Caitlin! Those are such awesome music selections! Your wedding is going to be fabulous!

I agree with VeggieGirl- Because you loved me would be awesome for the mother/daughter dance. The song always makes me cry!

Great idea for oats! You are so creative and should do a cookbook. Seriously!!!

    Have a great day!

  • ksgoodeats November 24, 2008, 10:05 am

Your recessional music is what I want for mine in my wedding! Ever since I saw it on Love Actually I’ve been obsessed with it!

Love the twist on the oats 🙂

  • angelcubbie November 24, 2008, 10:08 am

Love the song choices Caitlin! I was wondering, how did you and your future husband’s songs become your songs?

  • Caitlin (see bride run) November 24, 2008, 10:13 am

i love the suggestions, everyone! thanks so much!

meghann- i wish! naw im working.

sharon – hahah thanks! im not that creative, though!

ksgoodeats – LOVE ACTUALLY is a great music. that’s why we chose that song! 🙂

angelcubbie – well, “unchained melody” is our song because we were in a long distance relationship for a long time, and its a song about being apart but always being together in spirit. plus, every wedding we’ve ever been to played it and i love finding future husband when that songs come on and hitting the dance floor together (we are never standing with each other when it starts for some reason). at his stepbrother’s wedding, it came on when he was in the bathroom and i saw him RUN OUT of the bathroom with a crazy look on his face like “CANT MISS UNCHAINED MELODY” LOL.

the snow patrol song is special to us because for our three year anniversary i took him to DC and we saw them in concert. the song just reminds us of a special time together. 🙂

  • magpie November 24, 2008, 10:13 am

Those oats sound perfect for this week! Can’t wait to see what you have on the actual day 😉

  • Aimee November 24, 2008, 11:41 am

We used “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts for the mother/son, and my dad is dead so I did a mother/daughter dance to “in my daughter’s eyes”.

  • Sarah November 24, 2008, 12:09 pm

Congrats on getting some details worked out, it will make for a more relaxing wedding day 🙂

When I got married, my dad chose the song we danced to, which was “I Will Always Love You” the Dolly Parton version (not the Whitney Houston remake). It was nice!

  • Chic Runner November 24, 2008, 1:07 pm

Those are all really good song choices. 🙂 You’re family will be having fun for sure!

  • sara November 24, 2008, 1:43 pm

    love the music choices 🙂

(esp. the Rocky theme song … i heard that song more than a few times while running the Philly Marathon yesterday 😉 )

  • Brit November 24, 2008, 2:55 pm

    LOVE the music selections!

for the father daughter dance, a beautiful song is “Daughter” by London Wainwright

  • Rachel S November 24, 2008, 3:20 pm

Awww I LOVE these songs! Definitely not your typical “wedding/reception” music, which is great! It’ll make it memorabe for both you and FH, AND everyone else!

So most of my suggestions for songs were already thrown out there, but “Lullaby” by Billy Joel is a really great father/daughter song. I play and sing this one on the piano and the first time I did, my dad actually started crying! He said it always reminded him of me when I was young. So maybe that would be a fitting song! Or any Billy Joel song haha I can’t wait to see what you guys choose!

  • HangryPants November 24, 2008, 4:52 pm

Wonderful music picks! I hope we get to see some video.

  • Meg November 24, 2008, 6:51 pm

    I love your oatmeal.

Great song choices. Canon in D is my absolute favorite. I actually had that playing when I entered my wedding! Love the Rocky Theme!

  • Megan November 24, 2008, 7:57 pm

Great choices on your music selection! It gave me some ideas for my wedding 🙂 My dad and I will be dancing to my girl, I’m not sure what song my fiance is planning on dancing with his mom to yet.
