Tis the Season for Pumpkin Beer!

in All Posts

Unfortunately, Miami got smoked by Virginia Tech. :(  It rained through the whole game, and I’m pretty sure weather was a huge factor!  Very disappointing.

This pumpkin beer cheered me up:

Dogfish Head Punkin Ale is AWESOME.  Best pumpkin beer I’ve ever had (and that’s saying something, because I love pumpkin beer!

I had a little more Thai food during the game, and dinner was a bean and feta cheese salad with an orange on the side:

This Athena feta cheese is infused with tomato and basil… it’s divine!  So unique.

I signed up for my next race tonight.  It’s a 10K in November with my brother- and sister-in-law.  It will be a fun and relaxing race – NO PRESSURE.  :)  Just what I need!

I’m going to bed… now.

I am not much of a beer drinker but I have been looking forward to trying some pumpkin beer this fall season.

I think that a fun, family race is just what you need… needless to say that it sounds like it will be a blast, family or not. have a good night!

pumpkin everything is awesome. I wish that I could drink beer–had gluten–have you tried chili beer? It's yummy.

I want to write something about your previous post regarding running. Although I am not a runner, I am someone who is on a weight loss journey. Last semeptember 08' I was 168lbs. The lowest I had ever been. However, in January of 09' I strated a six month binge where I have gained 35lbs back. HOLY nastiness. I will tell you that when my birthday rolled around this year I could have gone 1 of 2 ways. 1. Hating myself, my body, my everthing for being the 'fat cow' that had run through my head so many times. -or- 2. admitting it, moving on and making a list of all the things in my life that I've grown from since the past year.

I suppose I write this to tell you that yes, you didn't get to where you wanted to go, you walked a bit, etc. However, internal comparison…albeit good..can be incredibly damaging esp. for those of us who are perfectionist and excel. So I guess part of it is really getting through these negative head space things which seem to be getting at you. Where are they coming from? What can you do to overcome them w/o simply saying 'band-aid' responses to people.

You are an amazing person who has given so much back. You don't have to be perfect all the time, but what you have to be is someone who is excelling at the rate which they can. Sometimes that changes.

    Sending hugs,
    M

Caitlin- I just got caught up on your news from last week and your race. My god woman, no wonder you had a tough time with your race- you were totally and completely wiped out in every way shape and form! You poor thing!

Ya know they say that we should treat ourselves like we'd treat a friend. Would you say to Mehgann, "you suck- your time was terrible- you need to do better next time!" or would you put your arm around her, give her a big hug and say "ya know it'll be better next time." Stay strong and congrats on ALL of your amazing successes!

    Sounds like a great race!

    I love trying different beer!

  • Sarah September 26, 2009, 6:54 pm

Dogfish Punkin Ale is definitely one of my favorites too!! I actually just indulged in two tonight as I'm in town to run the Dogfish Dash 10K in the morning — now that's my idea of carb loading!

  • Julie @savvyeats September 26, 2009, 7:31 pm

I just tried my first pumpkin beer today, from a local brewery. I don't usually like beer, but I think pumpkin beer is growing on me! 🙂

  • emily September 26, 2009, 7:49 pm

I agree, that is the best pumpkin beer ever! I'm making myself wait 'till October to buy it 🙂

  • Anonymous September 26, 2009, 7:57 pm

I have a 4-pack of Dogfish punkin ale waiting for me in my fridge. I must admit I am scared to try it. I am a girl that has only had bud light and corona. Does it taste very pumpkin-y? Adriana

no pressure races with friends are always fun!

  • Marissa September 26, 2009, 9:37 pm

How is your husband doing eating vegetarian? My husband hasn't eaten meat since May so I would be interested to hear how he is doing.

  • Courtney September 26, 2009, 10:57 pm

Oh I had that feta on my home made pizza tonight, so yummy! 😀 Get some rest!

michelle – thank you… i think you are right. part of the problem (awesomeness?) of blogging in the manner that i do is that i could not wait to blog my race recap 2 days after the race, when i felt in an emotionally better place about the race. i think i just needed to wallow in my upsetness for a moment, but when you instanteous blog your life experiences, that means you're going to blog those emotions, too.

i feel much better about it today. i guess i'm over it 😉 there are a lot of things that were excellent about that race, and focusing on the bad things will get me no where…. you are TOTALLY right.

    thank you!!!

Adriana – It is very pumpkiny, but it tastes like pumpkin pie!!! So good. Don't waste it 🙂

marissa – he eats vegetarian 99% of the time. i think he's eaten meat about 5 times since may. sometime he complains that he feels very weak eating a vegetarian diet (he lost 10 lbs and trust me, he doesnt have 10 lbs to lose), so if we're out at a restaurant, he's opted for meat a few times. obviously, i'm fine with that — it's his decision. overall, he likes being a vegetarian, it's just hard when his friends want a supreme pizza! 🙂

    Caitlin-
It is so huge that you can even run 9 miles and your times are still amazing! You did such a great job-you should be proud of yourself!

  • Rosey Rebecca September 27, 2009, 4:57 am

MMmm Pumpkin beer. I went to a brewery last night for dinner and there was a shirt that said 'will run for beer' on it. It made me think of you and Meghann. The picture is on my last post if you want want to see what it looks like. 🙂

  • Lia September 27, 2009, 5:38 am

Woah, I've never had pumpkin beer!! It sounds AMAZING! I need to do that. Dogfish head, though, I like.

  • Niki September 27, 2009, 7:09 am

Pumpkin Beer sounds awesome! I've never had it but am totally keeping my eyes open for some around here!

  • biggirleats September 27, 2009, 8:02 am

I lived in Delaware (where Dogfish Head is brewed!) after college and that was all we drank in the fall. I think you've inspired me to get some of that…:)

Congrats on finishing the race, regardless of how crummy you felt! A no pressure race sounds awesome!

  • Hillary September 27, 2009, 8:42 am
