The Little Things….

Make it all better!

After blogging about Hellish Half Marathon run, we jumped in the car to drive about 1 hour to see my aunt, uncle, cousins, and grandpa.

Along the way, we stopped at Starbucks and I ordered a Skinny Pumpkin Spice Latte:

When we got to my family’s house, the cousins were rolling out pizza dough and my grandpa was supervising  (he was having fun, I swear.  Bad picture!):

I played with the cutest little doggie in the world for a while.  She’s been on the bloggie before.  :)  Her name is Precious:

My family made the most delicious lunch of Grilled Pizza and Fruit Salad:

The best part of the salad were the toasted pine nuts — I just love pine nuts:

I was STARVING by the time lunch was served…. 13.1 miles will do that to a girl!

I had a generous serving of salad, watermelon, and pizza:

My pizza had mushrooms and pineapples on top.  This was my first foray into grilled pizza and man — it was GOOD!

They did, however, make  me drink out of a Gators cup (grrr):

It was a really nice lunch and totally lifted my spirits.  My aunt, uncle, and cousins are going to Italy this summer and we had lots of fun talking about vacations and whatnot.  They are also starting to think about college (a little bit; they both have a few years left) and we spent some time talking about the benefits of staying local vs. going out of state.

My little cousins are both SO smart; they could probably get into an Ivy League school!  Check out all these trophies:

On the way home, I spotted a Dairy Queen and demanded we stop for Blizzards.  The last time I had a Reeses Blizzard (which is probably my favorite treat, ever) was in MARCH (ironically, after a Half Marathon).  It’s been far too long, my sugary sweet friend!

Grilled pizza sounds really yummy; I've always wanted to try it.

  • Jolene - EverydayFoodie September 20, 2009, 2:50 pm

Blizzards are the absolute greatest! I love the Georgia Mud fudge one the most 🙂 If you haven't tried it, you should!

  • Susan September 20, 2009, 2:53 pm

100% percent agree! Well, maybe not the blizzard part, I personally would choose cheesecake, but whatever floats your boat 😉

I've never had grilled pizza before either, but it sounds fantastic!! Hope the rest of your evening goes well 🙂

  • Mellissa September 20, 2009, 2:54 pm

  • Sarah @ The Foodie Diaries September 20, 2009, 3:37 pm

That salad looks divine! Very summery

  • Dee September 20, 2009, 3:39 pm

    I have to share that

I had a skinny pumpkin latte yesterday!

DQ is my very favorite ice cream place of all time (peanut buster parfaits!!).

And I had a similar running experience this morning!

So I can relate on many levels.

Caitlin, these gross, hard long runs make us mentally tough.

You're doing great in your training!

  • Mica September 20, 2009, 3:41 pm

Yay, Dairy Queen makes things better!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point September 20, 2009, 3:43 pm

Kaytee – Are you serious? I hope you are joking. Because I totally have not eaten a Blizzard since March, and I ran a Half Marathon this morning, and I think you must be new to my blog if you think I eat perfectly all the time. I eat fattening, delicious, saturated-fat laden ice cream once a week.

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point September 20, 2009, 3:44 pm

Also, a DQ Blizzard has 800 calories in it, not 1500.

  • Joelle (The Pancake Girl) September 20, 2009, 3:55 pm

I did NOT know they make skinny pumpkin spice lattes now! That is so exciting to hear- that would definitely turn my day around, run or not!

  • jennieinwonderland September 20, 2009, 4:00 pm

    That Blizzard looks divine!

Life's too short not to indulge. Relax, Kaytee.

  • *One Step at a Time* September 20, 2009, 4:00 pm

    Dear Caitlin,
YOU DESERVED THAT YUMMY BLIZZARD AND DON'T LET OTHERS MAKE YOU FEEL GUILTY ABOUT IT!! I am so happy your day turned around for the better. Honestly, there is nothing a good 'ol blizzard can't fix!! 🙂

  • Meganerd September 20, 2009, 4:06 pm

That blizzard looks fabulous! I'm glad that you treat yourself every week…it shows that you have a healthy balance. 😀

You did run 13.1 miles… you could have eaten two and I wouldn't think any less of you.

  • Kelly September 20, 2009, 4:08 pm

Eating a blizzard after running 13 miles….repeat 13 miles is justified! I'm sorry but you can't possibly avoid trans fat in everything you eat. Have you ever ate a restaurant? Live a little.

  • Maddy September 20, 2009, 4:16 pm

mmm I'm all about the Reese's blizzard! And I remember you getting one after the Gasparilla races! That was a long time ago!

And isn't grilled pizza the best! So much fun making your own pizza too!

  • Bec September 20, 2009, 4:26 pm

glad you had such a fantastic afternoon 🙂

  • Amber (Girl with the red hair) September 20, 2009, 4:35 pm

Ha! I can't believe that comment about the blizzard. Nobody is perfect AND you haven't had one since March – uhh GOOD JOB! I have a blizzard (or some sort of ice cream treat) once a week or more in the summer!!

  • Heather September 20, 2009, 4:57 pm

You know what they say about opinions… (Well, I won't say it here because I'm going to be respectful!)

Precious is BEAUTIFUL! Sounds like you had a great day! DQ has so many memories for me – we used to live within walking distance of one as a kid and once a month I'd go go get Dennis the Menace ice cream with my dad (does anyone remember those?! so awesome!)

  • Danielle September 20, 2009, 4:59 pm

Grilled pizza is THE BEST! I'm glad that you had a wonderful day despite your not so great run this morning. Time with family/friends really is awesome 🙂

    Enjoy your week!
    Danielle

  • Taylor September 20, 2009, 5:06 pm

First, BBQ pizza sounds absolutely completely out of this world amazing.
Second, you deserved that blizzard like no other, and you know it!! You know how to eat treats in moderation, eat your healthy foods, yet still enjoy your treats. Sure blizzards and trans fat don't have much place in an everyday diet, but what's the point of life if you can't enjoy your favorites once and a while? Delicious, I say!!!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point September 20, 2009, 5:06 pm

i deleted the above comment because the poster asked me to, just an FYI.

  • Lauren September 20, 2009, 5:14 pm

You're so correct. It's those little things we often take for grandted that bring us the most purpose and fulfillment.

Great job on the run. Sorry it was rough, but you really have every reason to be proud! 🙂 You just ran 13.1 miles girl!!!!! That's awesome!

  • BroccoliHut September 20, 2009, 9:49 pm

Yay Blizzards! You picked the best flavor too:)

  • jac September 21, 2009, 12:51 am
