Special Oats

in All Posts

Good morning!  I squeeze in a 4.0-mile run before the sun came up, which felt wonderful.

Before I left, I had toast with blackberry jam:

My coffee had grinds in it.  Eww.  I’m an equal opportunity coffee drinker, so I drank it nevertheless!  🙂

My run was great.  It’s the last run I’ll probably do before the 15K race on Saturday.  Although I wanted to do 5.0  miles, I only had time for 4.0.

Here are my statistics:

  • Duration: 38:30
  • Distance: 4.0 miles

It ended up being a tempo run, which the later miles being faster than the first (9:56, 9:40, 9:40, and 9:17 respectively).  It was a wonderful last run before I officially start to taper for Saturday.

I came home and made special oatmeal:

My oatmeal contained:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Toppings:  flax, strawberries, coconut, and mini M&Ms

Chocolate always makes oatmeal feel so indulgent and luxurious!

New Design

Healthy Tipping Point is transferring to a new design and to WordPress.  I am very, very excited!  I feel like the current blog is so rinky-dink, and the new blog is sleek and cheerful.

Since I’ve gotten a few e-mails about the new design:

  • I’m not doing the design or the transfer myself.  It’s possible to transfer from Blogger to WordPress without having an IT degree (Megan did it), but my blog is 1,400+ posts and thousands of photographs large.   AKA huge headache that I’d rather pay someone else to deal with.
  • Blain from 13 Infinite is my web designer.  He did an excellent job thus far and I would recommend him to anyone.
  • Alternatively, Zesty Cook also does this sort of thing — he designed Operation Beautiful.
  • For more information about switching to WordPress or maximizing your blog’s potential, check out Health Blog Helper.

New site should be up today or tomorrow!  The magical Internet fairies must do their thing.  They are inside your computer right now, tinkering away.  🙂

Are you computer savvy or do you believe in magical Internet fairies?  I believe!

    Great job on the run!

I love the addition of mini mnm's to your oatmeal, hehe.

I'm excited to see the new blog:) My husbands and IT guy, so when I actually make the switch to Wordpress, I'm sure I'll be dragging him into it.

  • Jess (Fit Chick in the City) September 23, 2009, 4:58 am

First off, the m&m's in your oatmeal made me smile! Who would ever think of that… Caitlin.

Can't wait to see the new blog design. While I believe in internet fairies, I did most of the work on my blog myself. Which means it still needs a lot of work. I do feel a little more connected to it and proud from having done so much on my own. Although, I have to confess that it was the Husband who convinced me to do it, and not pay someone else.

  • janine September 23, 2009, 5:02 am

Hi Caitlin- I don't comment very often but I am a daily reader. Every morning while getting ready for work I have my tv set to the local news. This morning I heard them preview the next segment with "hear how mirrors in public bathrooms are making us feel better about ourselves". They had a spot on Operation Beautiful…how cool! I got so excited for you and all that you have accomplished!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point September 23, 2009, 5:05 am

janine – THEY DID?! i didn't know anything about this — what tv show was it???

  • recipesforcreativity September 23, 2009, 5:18 am

I'd like to think I'm Internet savvy, but I'm definitely not!

Your breakfast does look yummy with the mini m&ms on top!

  • leslie September 23, 2009, 5:29 am

your breakfast looks so fun and celebratory! i'm excited to see your new design – i transferred mine over to my own domain and redesigned it without any it experience – but truthfully i have no idea how i did it. it was a headache that i wouldn't want to repeat! 🙂

  • Nicole September 23, 2009, 5:30 am

I designed my website by myself, but it still needs a lot of work! I think that it took me at least 40 hours to bring it all together before I was ready to release it to the public. These 40 hours were made up of researching how to deal with wordpress, self-hosting, and themes. I'm an engineer so it comes a little easier to me than to others, but I still don't understand most of it!

  • christie, honoring health September 23, 2009, 5:35 am

So excited about the new blog design and I love that you put m&m's in your oats!

I just moved my domain name and changed my blog design. I bought a professional template and still want to do some cosmetic work to it. I want to make sure I have all of my pages and widgets in place first though.

  • RhodeyGirl September 23, 2009, 5:55 am

Total internet fairies. When I had a small personal blog I moved it from Blogger to Wordpress myself… but I am a big believer in computer fairies in general. When something isn't working for work I IMMEDIATELY call my brother (our IT guy) before even trying to troubleshoot. Usually he has it fixed.. FROM RHODE ISLAND.. before I even have the chance to hang up the phone!

  • seesaraheat September 23, 2009, 6:04 am

I love the mini M&Ms in the oatmeal!

I'm a little bit of both…there are some things I like doing myself but I also believe in internet fairies, lol.

    Have a great day!

  • Jenna September 23, 2009, 6:14 am

Sounds like a great run! I'm afraid to go out and run in the dark. I'm not sure why, though. Do you ever get scared?

Can't wait to see the new blog! I'm pretty internet savvy, although my blog does not show it (at the moment). I do internet design and other junk all day long, so my stuff seems to never get completed.

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point September 23, 2009, 6:26 am

shawna – i run on really busy and well lit streets so i'm never concerned. i wouldnt want to run on back roads, though!!

ooh, i can't wait to see the new design!

I'm kind of computer savvy, but it depends on what it is. Whenever I change over, I'll definitely be getting some help 🙂

  • Anne Marie September 23, 2009, 7:47 am

I love the m&m's in your oatmeal. They are so adorable!

I believe in the internet faries, most definitely!

  • greensandjeans September 23, 2009, 7:52 am

When you live in hot weather places like we do, it's definitely a race to beat the sun in the morning! I am selectively computer savvy so I definitely am a huge believer in those internet fairies… Yay for the new blog design!

  • Notes From the Grove September 23, 2009, 7:54 am

I'm kind of new to your blog–been reading for a couple of weeks now. I was wondering if you had any tips on what to eat or drink (if anything) right before a run. I'm on the second week of my 9 week 5K training program. I'm 29 and have never been a runner before. Any advice you could offer would be GREAT!

Can't wait to see the new blog design!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point September 23, 2009, 7:57 am

Notes – I usually do PB and Toast, but it really just depends on what works for you. Experiment with different combos of carbs/protein/fats to see what works. Avoid lots of fiber! 🙂 I drink coffee before a run (which makes – ahem – go) and a glass of water.

  • Alex September 23, 2009, 7:57 am

    Great job this morning!

I don't mean to seem nitpicky, but that's actually not what a tempo run is — a tempo run is where you run at a steady pace that is around 70% to 80% of your max aerobic capacity. Running the second half faster is running negative splits, and running progressively faster is a progression run. In any case, great job getting it done!

  • Sarah @ The Foodie Diaries September 23, 2009, 7:58 am

yayyy i'm so excited fo ryou to switch to wordpress!I hate posting comments on blogger! I make exceptions for blogs i really love, though 🙂

  • Laura@FindingAHealthyBalance September 23, 2009, 8:04 am

    Caitlin,

I have been debating back and forth on starting to run in the early a.m. (before the sun comes up)!

I used to at the gym but now I want to outside, however I am nervous about running in the DARK ALONE…….what are your thoughts on that and the safety of it!?!?!

    =) Laura

lol I believe in internet fairies. I think the key to working with technology is to accept that it is irrational, and be willing to do things to make stuff work that seem sort of irrational. good luck!

LOVE the m&m oatmeal 🙂 hehe

  • Food Makes Fun Fuel September 23, 2009, 9:34 am

Can't wait to see the new site!

  • Melissa September 23, 2009, 1:54 pm

I did 4 miles before the sun came up too!!! I love doing that, but don't think I could do it every day. M and M's are my guilty pleasure. I would feel so guilty putting them in my oatmeal, but that's probably because I would eat the rest of the bag on the side.. haha! Your oatmeal looks SO good!!

  • BroccoliHut September 23, 2009, 8:49 pm

Coconut and M&Ms?! Sounds like my kind of special:)
