Wall of Rain

in All Posts

An absolutely terrible storm rolled into Orlando tonight!
IMG_1198

Holy moly!

Needless to say, the rain interrupted my running plans tonight.  But, it was an "easy run" on the marathon plan (3.0 miles) so I’ll either just make it up tomorrow or skip it entirely.

Here are my eats.  My afternoon snacks included Chobani and granola:

IMG_1180

I do like Chobani, but I prefer Stonyfield.  What can I say — I’m brand loyal.  🙂

And melon:

IMG_1192

I jammed to some chick music during my rainy car ride.  Chick music means Imogen Heap, Sia, Paramore, etc.

IMG_1193

And snacked on a Kashi TLC Cherry Dark Chocolate bar, which was actually my "pre run" snack.   Since I didn’t run, it was a pretty needless snack AND it didn’t taste very good.  I like dark chocolate.  I like cherry.  But I did NOT like it in Kashi bar form!

Dinner was leftover veggie lasagna and spinach:

Alright, I want to take a survey…

  • Do you prefer rain or snow?
  • If you’re a runner, do you run in the rain?
  • What kind of umbrella do you own?

My answers:

  • Rain! I hate snow.
  • I usually run in the rain, but it was too insane tonight.
  • I actually do not own an umbrella.  I gave it away to an old lady a few months ago and never replaced it.  I lose them anyway.

Have a lovely evening!

    oooh fun survey.
    1. I hate both, but I especially hate the cold. I will go with rain.
    2. Never have. It hardly rains in AZ. If it does it is July and 3 pm. No way am I running in 110 degree weather, plus I am usually at work at that time. I think I would one day though
    3. A University of Arizona one. Holla. Even though it never gets used and sits by my desk.

  • Meg C. August 31, 2009, 7:36 pm

I loooove running in the rain! there's something totally freeing about it. you're wet, you're dirty but you don't feel your sweat. and it's a good motivator because you won't want to stop – cuz then you'd just be walking in the rain!

  • Niki August 31, 2009, 7:46 pm

    Fun survey!!

1.Snow is so much more fun!! Although I rarely get to see it here in Memphis, maybe once a year.
    2. Don't like running in the rain.
    3. A polka dot mini umbrella!

  • Lizzy August 31, 2009, 7:47 pm

    love surveys!
1- I hate the snow and hate the rain, but for some reason i would pick snow, it doesn't get you as wet.
2-i would totally run in the rain, but only if i was already out. i dont think i would set out for a run while it was already running.
3-i don't own an umbrella. maybe i should get one, since i do walk around my college campus, rain snow sleet or hail! 🙂

have a fab night caitlin! 🙂

  • Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) August 31, 2009, 7:48 pm

    1. It rarely rains in Southern California or snows. So I'd really love to see both!

    2. I don't think I could run in the rain!

    3. Don't own an umbrella, I don't really have a need for one!

  • Marissa August 31, 2009, 7:49 pm

    Woah! Crazy clouds!!!

  • jaimegirl August 31, 2009, 8:02 pm

1- rain. living in the Philly 'burbs my whole life has manifested in me a deep, intense, hatred of snow. HATE. IT.
2- i LOVE running in the rain! not massive, monsoon rain, but a gentle steady rain is quite lovely to run in. it's freeing and solitary, since usually no one else is out.
3- right now, i own a small very cheap black unbrella. i always lose(or break) them, so they need to be inexpensive.

  • Glo August 31, 2009, 8:05 pm

Definitely agree about Chobani vs. Stonyfield 🙂

    1. Snow! You can't ski in the rain.
    2. I definitely don't run in the rain.. Those nonstop drops on my face drives me insane.
    3. A really nice Coach one. I would never spend this much $$ on something ridiculous like an umbrella but it was a gift and has lasted me through years of summertime FL monsoons!

  • Hi! I'm Erin August 31, 2009, 8:06 pm

Your veggie lasagna is making me want to try the eggplant lasagna recipe I saw in one of my magazines. Yum!

I will run in rain if there is no lightening. I will run in snow if there is no wind. Although, to be honest, it wasn't until I bought my YaxTrax that I would even consider running in the snow.

I own a plain black umbrella. I don't even know where it came from, to be honest. It just appeared one day and I started carrying it in my purse.

  • Jessica August 31, 2009, 8:06 pm

    1. I LOVE rain if it's not the annoying spitting kind. I see way too much snow in Western Canada to have a preference for it.

    2. I definitely run in the rain, it's one of my favourites. I also bike in the rain, which is slightly more dirty and wet (because of the spray from the tires) but still fun.

    3. I actually have a huge dislike for umbrellas so I don't own one. I don't mind getting wet and I always think I'm going to get stabbed in the eye with the umbrellas points.

  • livelaughloveandrun August 31, 2009, 8:07 pm

    1) Hard choice, but I think I like snow better.
    2) Yes.. if it's not pouring and there's not a storm coming in.
    3) Nope.. I just get wet. My mom hates that I don't like using an umbrella, but I've never liked carrying one around with me. Actually, the one time I decided to bring one to class with me, someone stole it.

  • haya August 31, 2009, 8:15 pm

snow. there are no fun activities designated for the rain
i am a runner and i do sometimes run in the rain. i don't particularly enjoy it but sometimes it's refreshing
i don't own an umbrella either! umbrellas are for wusses. i'm not evil (like the wicked witch of the west) and i am not ionic. will not dissolve in a little water. i have a rain jacket and i wear that instead. i hate umbrellas on the sidewalks.

  • peanutbuttr plz August 31, 2009, 8:20 pm

    mm veggie lasagna 🙂
    1. rain, hands down
    2. I'm not really a runner but I've engaged a few times. My very favorite run over the summer was one in a gentle rain. So refreshing and liberating!
    3. umbrella free…I love the rain!

  • Tay August 31, 2009, 8:21 pm

Awww I'm sorry you didn't get your run in. I'm not a fan of that bar either. Blech!

    1. Rain!! Snow is fun for a short vacation, but I couldn't imagine living in it.
    2. OMG i love running in the rain. It's so refreshing. And I feel so "hardcore" because people think I'm crazy! lol
    3. A pink & orange polkadot umbrella from Target!

  • Black Kitten August 31, 2009, 8:23 pm

I tried greek yogurt a while ago and absolutely hated it. Then I realized that I was attempting to choke down the plain kind…. and since have switched to the fruit Chobanis. YUM!

  • emily August 31, 2009, 8:26 pm

I love Immogene Heap! Do you ever listen to Regina Spektor?

  • Jodie August 31, 2009, 8:31 pm

I prefer rain. Do not like snow. I don't run in the rain. 🙁

    I actually own 2 umbrellas.

I wish I could find Chobani yogurt.

  • mponz August 31, 2009, 8:32 pm

wow I can't believe that rain storm!!!

    1) Rain…hate the snow!
    2) I have run in the rain; although, I don't prefer it.
    3) UMM….a cheap one!

  • Ellen August 31, 2009, 8:37 pm

    1. at one time, i WOULD have said i prefer the rain, but then i left minnesota for school in seattle. now i say… they both suck 😉

    2. running in misty weather (like, 90% of the rain in western WA) is not a problem, though i don't like it.

    3. i've become one with my hoodies and north face. no one uses umbrellas in seattle & therefore i don't have one. its so much easier to stuff your hair in a hood than to fight with an umbrella in the wind.

  • Lainie August 31, 2009, 8:42 pm

My mom lives in Winter Park and she told me the storms were horrible this evening – scary!

1.) I like the rain. I have to – I live in Oregon!

    2.) I don't like running in the rain, but I will…sometimes.

3.) My umbrella is burberry – I love it. I figured it was a worthy investment for any Portland girl…it's kind of like my wedding ring – I "wear it" (use it) everyday!

  • Jolene - EverydayFoodie August 31, 2009, 8:49 pm

I LOVE the rain – especially when it really storms good! I don't run … and I have a cute umbrella that is black with white polka dots.

  • Kathleen August 31, 2009, 9:13 pm

1)I prefer rain but since I live in Minnesnowta…ahem…I live with snow for more months than rain.

2)I am still at college and have a great gym to work out in and since I spend 9 hours on campus 4 days a week, I usually run inside on treadmills…so no rain or snow for this gal!

3)I have a crappy umbrella that my boyfriend got from BioLife (where college kids donate plasma for beer money) but it does NOT work.

  • Valerie August 31, 2009, 9:15 pm

    1)Rain, especially thunderstorms!
    2)Of course! It's so refreshing!
3)A cheapo one with a broken handle. I hardly ever use it though. It's just easier usually to tough it out and brave the rain for a few seconds from the door to my car!

  • Eat Chic August 31, 2009, 9:38 pm

I prefer snow over rain just because it doesn't get you as wet when outdoors and looks so pretty when its coming down. I am a runner but never run in the rain (rain has always been a perfect excuse for a day off if you ask me!) And I own a houndstooth tote umbrella that folds up tiny to fit in my purse. I also LOVE that Kashi granola bar flavor, the dark chocolate cherry is my all time favorite so I was stunned you didn't care for it! Not to worry, they have tons of other great flavors!

  • Julia August 31, 2009, 9:53 pm

Sorry about the rain getting in the way of your run!
I prefer the rain, I hate being cold!I've run in the rain in the past, but I hate what it does to my poor old shoes…one word: smelly!
I have a very basic black umbrella that I always forget that I own.
Fortunately, I now live where it rains maybe 50-60 days a year, so my need for an umbrella is minimal.

  • WholeBodyLove August 31, 2009, 10:28 pm

Rain is soothing, I only like snow for skiing. I can't wait to ski this winter!! I don't like to run in the rain. I have cheap pink umbrella that flips inside out in the wind but I can't bring myself to spend money on a good one.

  • NiamhNIMROD August 31, 2009, 11:48 pm

    1. Snow definetly! I prefer everything over rain
    2. Yes because I live in Ireland. It's virtually always raining. If I didn't run in the rain I would never run outside.
    3. Loads! Again because it's always raining in Ireland. Well that's the practical reason for my large collection but it's really because I adore strange umbrellas. I have some that cost more than you should spend on umbrellas but oh well… 🙂

  • Nicole September 1, 2009, 12:51 am

    Rain, rain, rain
    1. I would actually prefer the snow than the rain. It rains a lot in Germany (and coming from Tucson, this is still not easy for me to accept!)
2.If it is sprinkling, I'll run outside. If it's any more than that, I will be inside with a book or on the treadmill. 🙂
    3. We own about 4. I have 2 in the house, 1 in the car, and 1 in my purse at all times. You never know what the weather will do here.

  • littlemissminny September 1, 2009, 1:40 am

I love both. I love to snuggle inside when it's raining and snowing.
I don't run, but I wouldn't do it in the rain anyways.
I actually don't know what umbrella I have, I don't like them, and they keep getting lost 😀

  • Sam September 1, 2009, 1:49 am

I'm no longer a distance runner, or barely a runner at all. LOL

    But when I was running…
1-I prefer snow. Which is funny because I'm a total beach girl. (and we live on Guam!) But my fastest, easiest running was in the winter in Michigan…I have asthma and it opens my lungs.
2-I LOVE rain running! My first 19 miler when training for my first marathon was in torrential rains the entire rain. It was blissful!
    3-I rarely use one.

  • ~Jessica~ September 1, 2009, 2:15 am

1.) Definitely rain: when it snows it's impossible to maintain grip and balance on the pavement and I always end up running on the gym treadmill if it snows, which makes me very sad…it's just not the same as running outside. Rain I can deal with, waking up and finding that it's too frosty/snowy to run, not so much.
2.)Yes ~ English weather conditions aren't generally too extreme and it's a fun way too cool down ; ) Thunder and lightning scare the heck out of me though.
3.)An extremely battered and threadbare monochrome patterned variety.

Sorry the weather stalled your running plans…it's one of my pet peeves when that happens!

    xoxoxo

  • inmytummy September 1, 2009, 3:13 am

I like the chick on the cd.

    I prefer snow.

I don't prefer to run in the rain, but I get caught in it a lot because I don't look at the weather forecast before I run.

I have an umbrella, but I have no idea where it's from.

  • Kate September 1, 2009, 3:20 am

    1. definitely snow.
    2. Yes, running in the rain is awesome…it pretty much makes my day.
    3. yea, don't use an umbrella… but maybe that is a good investment?

  • Colleen September 1, 2009, 3:55 am

    I prefer rain!

Yes, I'll run in the rain as long as there's no thunder or lightning.

My umbrella is actually from the Harvard Business School! My Dad visited there and brought it back for me. 🙂

  • Mara @ What's For Dinner? September 1, 2009, 3:58 am

    1. Rain, for sure, but mostly because i hate the freezing cold. Snow is prettier though.

    2. I don't run… unless of course I'm being chased, in which case the weather doesn't matter.

    3. No umbrella. I figure I'll get wet anyway, so whats the point?

  • Erin September 1, 2009, 4:06 am

    1. I love the snow – the possibility of snow days makes me so happy!
    2. I adore running in the rain, as long as it isn't too cold out.
    3. I have a purple umbrella. I believe in umbrella karma: when I lose my umbrella and someone else snags it, I know that soon I will find an umbrella someone else has left behind and can take.

  • saundra September 1, 2009, 4:09 am

    1. Don't see much snow in GA so I'd say snow.

    2. I love running in the rain!!!

    3. A useless one. I never seem to have it when I need it.

  • Peanuts & Crackerjacks September 1, 2009, 4:10 am

    1. I hate snow more
    2. I don't like to run in it unless its really hot out
    3. 3 black ones (one has a giant mickey mouse on it and I have NO idea where its from!!!)

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point September 1, 2009, 4:17 am

hahaha these responses are really funny!

emily – no i need to check her out!

  • Susan September 1, 2009, 4:19 am

    1) Snow! You can walk in the snow and not get wet like you would in the rain.

    2) Depends on how hard. I'll run in drizzle, but not a downpour.

    3) A full-length black umbrella with coloured polka-dots, from walmart 🙂

  • Katey September 1, 2009, 4:22 am

Ugh! I hate snow too 🙁

  • Britt September 1, 2009, 4:28 am

    1. Snow. You don't get as wet. Plus its usually pretty. I actually prefer running in the winter, you don't have to worry about getting too hot!

    2. As long as its not coming down too hard. It can be fun, but its hard to get out the door…. not so bad if it just pops up.

    3. After all the rain we had during the early summer in New England I have several…. black, small one with polka dots, huge red & black golf one (good for walking the dog)

  • Kate September 1, 2009, 4:54 am

1 definitely snow! I grew up in Cleveland, standing in a foot of snow to watch the Browns lose is a way of life!
2 I do not run in rain…unless I'm on a treadmill looking out at it! I hate my feet being wet if it's unnecessary…yuck…uggs and snow is a way better combo to battle!
3 london fog…stolen from my mothers car, 😉

  • teacherwoman September 1, 2009, 5:18 am

I live in ND…. willingly. Thus, I like all sorts of weather. And running in the snow is a lot more challenging than one would think! I have only ran in the rain a couple of times… but enjoyed that also! As for an umbrella, I don't know what kind I have, and I have only used it a handful of times in the past few years.

  • Jess September 1, 2009, 5:23 am

I love the rain and like the snow when I'm skiing or warm and cozy inside. I run in both the rain and the snow! But if there is lightning, then I run inside.

  • Kristin September 1, 2009, 5:24 am

    1. I don't like either, but I HATE driving in the snow!!
    2. I have run in the rain, but it gets colllddd here so I prefer not to.
3.I have a black and white polka dotted umbrella =)

    Fun survey!!

    xo
    K

  • Stephanie September 1, 2009, 5:59 am

Oh I was totally trying to fly home from Orlando in that storm… they stopped all flights in/out of the airport for hours… grrr 🙁 that storm was insane

  • shawna September 1, 2009, 6:00 am

    1. HATE snow!
    2. I'm on a running hiatus, but normally I do not run in the rain.
    3. Yes, one with a gerber daisy that I got for free for buying something.

QUICK QUESTION RE: CYCLING: Do you use clipless pedals?

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point September 1, 2009, 6:01 am

shawna – no… i dont have the $$ for clipless pedals although i would like them!

  • Sarah September 1, 2009, 6:15 am

    1. I think I like the rain better. Although after it gets so cold I'd rather there be snow than just cold.
    2. I'm not a runner, but I don't think I would run in the rain unless it was just a sprinkle. It could be kind of therapeutic.
    3. I have a mini totes umbrella that is purple with white polka dots. It folds up really small and fits into my purse.

  • April September 1, 2009, 6:19 am

    Oooh a survey!
    1. I love the rain for sure! Living in the midwest we see plenty of snow and I HATE SNOW. Snow = cold.
    2. I don't normally but I ran my 1st half this summer in the rain. It really wasn't so bad.
    3. I have twop – a plain black and a pink umbrella. Pretty boring.

  • tryingtobefit September 1, 2009, 6:27 am

I live in Chicago so we get a lot of snow and I hate it! I love those dreary rainy days, only not like 3 or more in a row.
I'm not a big runner.. yet. I'm working on it.
I own a simple black umbrella that my Mom gave to me when I started middle school since I had to walk there. haha hey it still works.

  • chipped nails and all September 1, 2009, 6:30 am

    1. "any cold, wet thing I don't really like" (Twilight anyone?)…I'm going to have to go with rain out of the two.
    2. I'll run in the rain as long as it's not freezing cold.
    3. My umbrella is from Tar-jay..it's got a J-shaped handle and it's big!

  • lilybeans September 1, 2009, 6:48 am

    Wow that rain looks intense!

1)I like snow as long as I don't have to drive in it and there is a lot of it! Sledding anyone?
    2) I love running in the rain (as long as it is not pooring). Thunderstorms in the distance of a run are amazing.
    3) I have a bunch of umbrellas, but my favorite is black with red polka dots. I tend to leave them in cabs quite often 🙂

  • Jesse September 1, 2009, 7:02 am

I am so love/ hate with rain.

I love to run in it, but I hate to walk in it. I love to watch it from inside, but I hate when I have to go anywhere.

I "own" a huge golf umbrella. I put own in quotes cause I appropriated it from my job, and am supposed to return it after each time I use it, but due to this summer's incessant rain, I haven't brought it back yet…

  • tracik September 1, 2009, 7:08 am

Ok, 1. I live in Boston and we get plenty of snow and I HATE it! Don't love rain either but will take it over snow.
    2. I love running in a mist, but not a real rain
    3. An I adore my Brookstone umbrella

  • Therese September 1, 2009, 7:13 am

I got in from my run literally right before that storm hit! I went to take Daisy outside and I though the metal on her leash was going to get me struck by lightening! It was insane…

I am way to high maitenance to run in the rain lol. I just think I would be cold and miserable.

  • Christina G. September 1, 2009, 7:30 am

Do you prefer rain or snow?
Rain – I'm not a winter person. I live in the Northeast, not sure why!

If you're a runner, do you run in the rain?
I think running in light rain is fun. thunder and lightening? I'm outta there.

What kind of umbrella do you own?
It's striped – red, orange, yellow, green. It's fun 🙂

  • platipus329 September 1, 2009, 7:49 am

    Snow
    No
And I don't lol. Living in New England an umbrella would be useful, but I've just gotten too used to the weather I guess

  • Meg September 1, 2009, 7:59 am

    1. Snow! There much more you can do outdoors in the snow than the rain.
    2. I will run if it's sprinkling and warm out, but I hate cold rain.
    3. As for an umbrella, I have a teeny tiny black compact one that barely covers my head. I think it my be time to invest in a new one actually!

  • catruns September 1, 2009, 8:01 am

    1. snow is such a rarity where I live that it's always a treat.
    2. I'm pretty new to running and either skip a run if its raining or head to a treadmill at the gym.
    3. I have two black umbrellas that I accumulated over the years, a white one with blue flowers that I bought several years ago and is a bit gimpy from being used in strong winds, and a comic patterned one that I snagged from my office building's lost and found.

  • MarathonVal September 1, 2009, 8:01 am

I love rain when I am running in it, or all cozy at home at night with my husband! And I love snow if it is BEFORE Christmas and I am safe inside.

  • cglich0630 September 1, 2009, 8:15 am

I prefer snow, but that may be because I live where it only snows once every couple of years. I have yet to run in the rain but I would like to do it some day. I think I own an umbrella though I couldn't tell you where I put it.

  • Crissy September 1, 2009, 8:26 am

    fun questions..

rain or snow… both stink! but i'll take rain.

I run in the rain when it isn't a down pour..it's refreshing.

I have 3 umbrellas. 2 in my car, one in my office. all three are poopy.

  • Anne Marie September 1, 2009, 8:33 am

definitely rain!!! i hate driving in the snow!

  • Shannon September 1, 2009, 8:46 am

    snow! i hate rain!

i don't run in the rain (except for my saturday race) b/c of my orthotics

no idea what brand of umbrella i have, but i think i need a new one 😉

  • Readerbean (Beth) September 1, 2009, 11:26 am

I don't like that Kashi Dark Chocolate & Cherry bar either – it tastes like cardboard! That was the first Kashi Bar that I tried and now I'm nervous to go back and try another!

  • Caitlin September 1, 2009, 11:53 am

    1. I love the snow!
    2. Actually this past Saturday my sister and I went for our weekly walk/run and decided to go even though it was running. (normally we wouldn't)
    3. a striped multicolored one from Target!

  • Stephanie September 1, 2009, 1:31 pm

    1. Snow! We don't get much here in Georgia but I love it when we do. I hate being wet.
    2. I used to run in the rain but never more than a drizzle or light rain.
    3. Used to have a UGA one but it broke and I never replaced it. They seem overrated anyways. They never keep you completely dry. They leave a big wet spot wherever you put them and you never have them when you actually need them!

  • Jenny September 1, 2009, 2:01 pm

daaaaaaaang mother nature was definitely feeling pissy last night!

though i loveeeee a good ol' fashion snow day — i think i prefer the rain because you can still drive around in it. When it's snowing on the other hand, it's game over – you're SOL!

  • Jenna September 1, 2009, 2:31 pm

snow is much better than rain!
hatee running in the rain and getting wet 🙁
i just have a huge golf umbrella, hah.

  • Kristin September 1, 2009, 3:18 pm

    1. Rain. I hate snow. I'm not looking forward to this winter.
    2. I prefer not to be out in the rain. I don't like getting wet.
