CIMG7216

Because I think I’m the world’s biggest sucker for a furry face!

CIMG7200

Yes… the stray cat (now named Mitch) is inside my house, hanging out on my desk.

CIMG7197

He is so cute, but WE CANNOT KEEP HIM.  I’ve looked for "lost pet" ads and checked Craigslist, but no luck.  I’m pretty sure he was dumped, which breaks my heart!  If you get a pet, it’s your pet FOR LIFE.

So, I’m looking for a home for little Mitch.  He is very sweet and fun and likes to follow me around the house.  He is not fixed or declawed.  Mitch is OK with Maggie, but he is pretty freaked out by James.  Probably because James has tried to eat him twice.

CIMG7201

I think James believes Mitch is a giant squirrel.

If you’re in the Central Florida area and would like to give Mitch a FOREVER HOME, e-mail me at seebriderun@gmail.com!

**UPDATE: MITCH HAS A NEW HOME! More details later!**

I got hungry around 9:30.  Guess my breakfast wasn’t big enough to hold me over after 20 miles on the bike!  I grabbed another handful of granola:

CIMG7220

And lunch was soup, salad, and sammie (and Mitch)!

CIMG7217

I spread some Sabra hummus all over a slice of WW toast (so thick — probably 1.5 servings).

CIMG7218

And a cup of Roasted Red Pepper Tomato Soup plus a side salad:

CIMG7219

Back to work I go! It’s almost the weekend!

I agree — I get so frustrated with people who don't realize pets are for life! So irresponsible … If I didn't live all the way in Wyoming, I might have to take Mitch myself — I AM a sucker for a cute kitty! Good luck!

Are you a cat person? For some reason, since you only have doggies, I figured you weren't. We have a dog and a cat and I think I go back and forth daily. They both have their unique benefits!

  • Stacey July 16, 2009, 9:08 am

AWwwww! I wish I did live in Central FL so I could adopt him (not that I need another animal!) He is sooo pretty! I hope you find him a good home 🙂 And it's okay, I would've already bought him a bed, collar and nametag lololol You have much more control than I do, haha

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point July 16, 2009, 9:11 am

Carrie H – I like ALL animals, but I'm not really a cat person. I would like a cat if I could put their litterbox far away (like in a basement). I think it's cool how cats are independent, but I kind of like my crazy dependent doggies LOL.

  • Dori July 16, 2009, 9:15 am

I wish I was closer, I really want to get a cat for my mom! Mitch seems so sweet, adorable and friendly! I am sure you will find a good home for him.

  • Paula July 16, 2009, 9:22 am

The kitty is beautiful! I hear ya on the litterbox issue, but if you can get past that, I'm sure that Maggie and James can learn to co-exist with a kitty.

    Just sayin'. 😉

(Seriously, good luck finding him a home.)

  • stacey July 16, 2009, 9:36 am

Maybe you can train Mitch to go outside like Maggie and James? 🙂 I have to tell you that last night during a news report that came on while I was watching So You Think You Can Dance, they interviewed a couple whose names were Maggie and James. I immediately thought of your dogs. Then I thought how strange it was that I thought of them since I don't personally know you or them. But, I do read your blog daily and I love all dogs:) Just thought I would share that with you. I got a chuckle out of it!

  • Veganissexy July 16, 2009, 9:37 am

OMG he's so cute! You have to keep him 🙂 I love little kitties who do the stop drop and roll…..he's so precious. I hope he finds a good home!

  • Danielle July 16, 2009, 9:49 am

Oh man, he is the cutest kitten! That gray color is gorgeous. But I live in DC, not FL 🙁 I hope you find a home for him soon.

  • K from ksgoodeats July 16, 2009, 9:52 am

I'm a sucker for the fur, too 🙁 Hope you find a good home for the cutie!!

  • Meganerd July 16, 2009, 9:53 am

Jason if you are reading this, please let me have him!!

  • Amanda July 16, 2009, 9:53 am

    Very cute cat.

I work at a vet clinic and we had a lady bring in a stray cat that was pregnant. The lady didn't want the cat, but didn't want it roaming the streets. The cat had 4 adorable kittens, which we found homes for.. and now the clinic is stuck with the cat. 🙂

Have you tried calling your nearest vet clinic? Some people will call clinics when they lose cats, but if the cat was dumped, then maybe they can find a home?

    Good luck!

  • Carolina John July 16, 2009, 9:54 am

wow, that is a cute cat. it's most likely just a stray. i've got one that won't leave my house too.

  • Mandy July 16, 2009, 9:57 am

awww… he is so cute!!! My mother in law has a stray that hangs around… she feeds her outside and definitely loves on her when she's around… but not keeping her… she is the sweetest cat, though! it's hard not to scoop her up and take her home!

  • Life's Too Short to Eat Fat Free Cheese July 16, 2009, 9:58 am

Aww, that's such a cute cat.

If you're keeping it in your house for a while, I like fresh step litter. A little pricey, but it really doesn't smell at all.

I used to have a good place to hide the litter box. Unfortunately, my current place doesn't have that so a good litter is just that more important.

  • Mica July 16, 2009, 10:03 am

Best of luck finding a home for Mitch!

  • Lora July 16, 2009, 10:04 am

i guess a road bike would help lol..i have a mountain bike that is really made for a 6 foot 2 inch guy and I am a 5 foot 9 girl LOL…its heavy so it is much harder to pedal, but still a great workout!

  • The Decayed Gentlewoman July 16, 2009, 10:05 am

I have 2 dogs (miniature schnauzers) and 1 cat and I have a great cat/dog harmony tip for you, in case you have Mitch for a bit longer.
The best thing is if you can block off a room (like with a baby gate) so that the cat can get in there and the dogs can't. This is where you put the cat's food, bed and litter box. This lets the cat come and go as he pleases, but allows him to have a safe spot to retreat to when the dogs try to eat him and keeps the dogs out of the litter box (cat poops is high in protein and therefore dogs consider it a delicious treat) and out of the cat's food.
This was the key to canine/feline harmony in our house!

  • Chloe (Naturally Frugal) July 16, 2009, 10:09 am

I have those same Ramekins! Love them!

  • leslie July 16, 2009, 10:14 am

  • Krista July 16, 2009, 10:18 am

I'm thrilled to see that you took Mitch in for the time being! He has that grateful, I love you look all over his gorgeous furry face!

  • randomlymikey July 16, 2009, 10:25 am

omg, he is soooo cute. i hope you find a home for him soon because i can see you getting seriously attached to that little fellow.

  • just me July 16, 2009, 10:30 am

i agree, pets are for life! people can be so frustrating some times when they dump their pets!

i wish i were there to take him…he's too cute…and i'm totally not a cat person!

hope he finds a home soon!

  • dani July 16, 2009, 10:31 am

lol…i think Mitch was meant to be! my husband has a friend Mitch who's married to a Maggie! and DH's friend James really creeps out Mitch! 😉

  • runnerskitchen July 16, 2009, 10:32 am

Aww, Mitch is making me miss my cat Kiwi (he lives with my parents). Hope he finds a permanent home soon! Love that Sabra hummus! I just found some white bean hummus at TJ's yesterday. It has a nice blob of oil and red pepper on top, just like Sabra's!

  • Marissa July 16, 2009, 10:33 am

    AW!! Mitch is soooo cute!!

  • Rose July 16, 2009, 10:34 am

Awww, Mitch is so cute! You are so good to bring him inside!

  • Mrs. Myers @ Eat Move Write July 16, 2009, 10:36 am

He is so handsome! I would totally take him if I wasn't in California!

    Why can't you keep him?

  • brandi July 16, 2009, 10:38 am

Mitch is so cute! I'm a big sucker for animals, too.

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point July 16, 2009, 10:39 am

mrs meyes – we have a two pet limit in our apartments. 🙁

  • Jennifer @ His N' Her Health July 16, 2009, 11:07 am

He is so cute. He looks a lot like my cat. Hope you find a home. I would take him if I wasn't all the way in AZ. The boyfriend would kill me too haha.

  • Amelia (AC/DC: Highways to Health) July 16, 2009, 11:19 am

Oh my goodness that cat is so pretty!
Also, I think I have that blanket in your second pic. My favorite animal is a penguin so two different people got it for me from Target.

  • Tina July 16, 2009, 11:26 am

    Haha! Mitch is rather squirrel-colored!

  • Erin July 16, 2009, 11:31 am

Oh, look at that putty! He already loves you. GL finding him a good home. There's a place in hell reserved for people who dump pets.

    🙁

  • nostorybook July 16, 2009, 11:34 am

I would totally take Mitch except I am not close to Central Florida and my greyhound might eat him. I can't believe people just abandon their pets.

Good Luck with finding Mitch a home, and take care!

  • Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) July 16, 2009, 11:41 am

Mitch is adorable! Have you tried calling various shelters to see if anyone is looking for a missing gray kitty? He could be a stray or he could be lost too…poor little guy!

Such a cutie though…I'm a sucker for all things furry too! 🙂

  • Melissa July 16, 2009, 11:41 am

Have you checked with your landlord to see if the cat belongs to someone in your apartment complex? I hope you find a home for the kitty soon. You're a very nice person to take him out of the heat 🙂

  • katecooks July 16, 2009, 11:43 am

aw what a cute little cat! he looks so happy there 🙂 im glad to hear he isn't declawed, at least they did ONE thing right. (although that doesnt make up for dumping him, clearly!!!) when we got our kittens, i had to explain to my roommate that declawing is basically amputating the tips of their toes because she had no idea.

  • Sarah July 16, 2009, 12:02 pm

    He is such a sweetheart!!

SOO glad to hear you found him a home!

  • Julia July 16, 2009, 12:07 pm

Mitch is adorable! If I lived in Central FL I would definitely try to adopt him! That hummus sammie looked delish!

  • Jenny July 16, 2009, 12:42 pm

aw can't said i blame ya for being such a sucker! — how could you resist that precious face?!

  • Emily July 16, 2009, 12:46 pm

What a cute kitty! I'm so glad you provided him with a temporary home while you searched for a permanent one. I'm more of a dog person, but I cannot resist snuggling a cute kitty, even though I'm really allergic haha! This is really random but your hair looks AMAZING in that picture. I want my hair to be long again. 🙁

  • nicoleishappy July 16, 2009, 12:56 pm

aww that cat is adorable! i would of done th same thing, i almost emailed you and was going to snatch it up.lol

  • Jenn Eats Nutritiously Now July 16, 2009, 12:56 pm

I'm glad to hear you found him a home 🙂

  • Katie July 16, 2009, 1:04 pm

    Yep. You're a sucker. LOL

Just kidding. I think it's sweet that you took him in and made it your mission to find him a new home. He's adorable and I'm glad to hear that he has a new home.

  • applecrumbles July 16, 2009, 1:08 pm

The dog and cat are adorable. I don't blame you for taking them in.
Unfortunately I am in NY but I would adopt them all if I could. My hubby has set a one dog limit in our house. What a pooper!

  • Lauren @ Team Giles July 16, 2009, 1:18 pm

He's so dang cute! How could you not be a sucker. Just look at him 🙂

ahhhh mitch is SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i want himmmm

  • Sarah July 16, 2009, 1:27 pm

Aww, thanks for finding him a home. I can't believe the number of people who can just drop an animal at the side of the road and then sleep at night.

  • Shannon (The Daily Balance) July 16, 2009, 1:43 pm

So happy to hear you found Mitch a home! Not surprised someone snatched him up so quickly! 😉

  • Tea Time July 16, 2009, 1:57 pm

I am also a sucker for cuteness! My little doggie has me wrapped around his little fingers. I feel like a stalker sometimes because I can stare at my dog for hours. I think he is sick of me telling him how cute he is.

  • Devan Geselle. N July 16, 2009, 1:59 pm

    Awee Mitch is SO cute!!
it is so sad about all the stray animals 🙁 Have you ever done the Paws For A Cause walk? its amazing.. you take your pet for a walk and raise money for animal shelters 🙂

  • kilax July 16, 2009, 2:07 pm

I am so happy you found a home for Mitch (and that you took him in). He is SO adorable!!!

  • Kristin P. July 16, 2009, 2:11 pm

Maybe you could put up a "found cat" poster. Since he had a flea collar on, its possible he just wandered away from his home. There might be someone missing him!

  • THE ACTORS DIET July 16, 2009, 3:00 pm

yay! glad mitch got a home!

  • roseyrebecca July 16, 2009, 3:04 pm

I'm glad Mitch found a home!! He's so cute

  • Danielle C. July 16, 2009, 3:17 pm

I'm so glad Mitch found a home! I was getting close to offering up his airfare to fly him here, he looks so sweet. 🙂

  • Paige July 16, 2009, 3:27 pm

You are too cute! I would do the same thing. I'm such a sucker for animals. If it weren't for my husband, I swear I'd be a cat lady 😛

  • lookingforserenity July 16, 2009, 3:59 pm

aww good for you for taking that cat in!! 🙂

  • NYgirl@heart July 16, 2009, 4:00 pm

there are so many people dumping their animals out in the streets because they can't afford to take care of them anymore. i keep saying i wish i could adopt them all and let them roam free on some land but obviously, that's impossible. it's so sad and i'm glad you brought him in AND found him a home. 🙂

  • Tammy (Defining Wellness) July 16, 2009, 4:24 pm

Awww, look at that adorable kitty! It's ok to be a sucker for animals. There are worse things you could be. 🙂 Can't wait to hear the update on his new home!

  • Anonymous July 16, 2009, 5:05 pm

Uhhhhhh one breath you say "pets are for life"…and in the other breath you say "looking for a home for mitch"….uhhhh you make no sense.

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point July 16, 2009, 5:13 pm

uhhh anonymous – can't you read? he's not my pet! he's a stray.

  • seesaraheat July 16, 2009, 5:36 pm

I'm so glad you found a home for Mitch! I'm a sucker for animals too 🙂

  • Still Life in South America July 16, 2009, 8:15 pm

So sweet. Mitch adopted YOU! I love that photo of him all curled up and happy next to your food.

I'm so happy he found a home. You are a good soul, C.
