Cleaning Counts as Cardio

in All Posts

…. When you do it Caitlin-style!

I woke up this AM determined to get my apartment in order.  I’m the kind of girl who isn’t satisfied unless her place reeks of Clorox and Febreeze.  Of course, cleaning has taken a backseat the last few weeks with my busy schedule.

I put on my iPod and grabbed my bucket.  I did:

  • General house pick-up.
  • Scrub kitchen and two bathroom floors (on hands and knees with a brush).
  • Clean counters in kitchen and two bathrooms.
  • Scrub both tubs (again, with a brush).
  • Took out the trash (about a 0.25 mile jog!)
  • Washed the front steps and stairs.
  • Vaccummed
  • 15 push-ups 🙂

The whole thing took me about an hour and 15 minutes and TRUST ME, I got my sweat on!  It was great and now the apartment sparkles.

Breakfast:

Operation Beautiful

There are some lovely notes up today on Operation Beautiful.  I wanted to share two in particular — check out the site for the rest!

Lady Vea wrote, "I was just so inspired by your message I wanted to take part so I tried to make a unique contribution.  Attached is a photo of the post-it (and my silly attempt to be a little artistic) that I put up in the ladies room at my office, there are almost 130 women here and I think many of them need to read this message and I hope they visit your site!"

Elisabeth wrote, "I am traveling from Minnesota through Colorado to Arizona, back via Texas and around — many opportunities to leave these cards in many places — I edited a little a note I saw on your website, and sent it to Office Max during a week they were having a sale on 100 postcards (would love to make a stickie note with this, but couldn’t find an efficient way to do that). But these can be leaned places, and borrowed, and mailed…"

If you LOVE Operation Beautiful and want to participate, all you need to do is write a note, take a picture, and e-mail it to Caitlin at seebriderun@gmail.com.  Spread the love!

Hey if you need another hour of cardio, I have the perfect "gym" for you to clean! Haha. The breakfast looks great as always.

Who cleans on staycation? Caitlin, that's who! haha, now go relax in your clean apartment and watch some tv or something. It's what the rest of us slackers do.

I always crank up the music and get my sweat on when I'm cleaning too. Love it! Also, I can't get over how creative everyone is getting with Operation Beautiful. It's amazing and inspiring.

  • Runeatrepeat July 24, 2009, 6:51 am

    Congrats on the book draft!

Cleaning as a workout? You're a human dynamo! Do try to relax at least a little : )

I was wondering if it would be possible to ask you a question about your book proposal? Obviously no need to answer if it's too personal and apolgies if it is: I just wanted to know how you came to have a literary agent? I've been trying to snag one for months now and the only way to even contact them is via sample chapters and potential synopses for my book. I do live in the UK so it might be different in the US, but I'd appreciate any tips you might have!

    Happy Friday!

jessica – i was actually contacted by the agent (because of the blog). i think you're doing things right, so keep it up!!! just keep sending out those query letters.

Hey Caitlin! Just curious what kind of coconut you use…
The only kind I can ever find has added sugar and weird-sounding additives!

Glad to see Operation Beautiful is taking over the world! buahah!

this coconut has added sugar – the only time ive seen unsweetened is at whole foods.

  • roseyrebecca July 24, 2009, 7:25 am

Wow! It takes me so much longer to clean my apartment than it did for you to clean your whole house! My boyfriend usually helps too!! The other day I went to the gym set on cleaning the bathroom when I got home, and when I got here, he'd cleaned it already (<3)

Cleaning is definitely a work out though!! Good job!!

  • Angharad July 24, 2009, 7:29 am

I love getting my clean on and getting all hot and sweaty in the process! It totally counts as cardio! Nothing more satisfying than feeling like you've worked out and having a spotless apartment.

That breakfast looks absolutely amazing too! Good luck with the book proposal lady!

There is nothing better then a house that is spic and span!

We're in the process of getting our house ready to put on the market, and I'm loving it sooo much because its so neat/tidy it makes me not want to leave!

  • Andee (Runtolive) July 24, 2009, 8:09 am

The good thing about living with your boyfriend is that you can make him clean! He does all the dirty work in the bathrooms and I cook, so it's a even trade-off 🙂

  • K from ksgoodeats July 24, 2009, 8:10 am

I'm the same way with cleaning – I LOVE the smell of cleaning products (or chemicals haha)! It just makes everything sparkle.

  • ~Jessica~ July 24, 2009, 9:14 am

Thank you! I'll just keep persevering…I mean bugging agents relentlessly until they take notice of me ; )

    LOVE the Twilight videos!

  • Spotty Prep July 24, 2009, 9:25 am

I always feel so much better with a clean house 🙂

  • Liz @ in the skinny July 24, 2009, 12:05 pm

Ha, I'm sitting here reading blogs instead of cleaning! It was my plan to clean all afternoon, but my excuse is that my husband is napping and I don't want the vacuum to wake him. But I guess I could still empty the dishwasher. 😉

  • Angie (Losing It and Loving It) July 24, 2009, 7:16 pm

Oh gosh, I need to get this house cleaned. Maybe if I think of it as cardio, I'll get it done sooner LOL
