A Local Lunch

in All Posts

I like how the Husband and I are starting a new tradition.  On Sundays, we go to the downtown farmers’ market, buy a bunch of yummy food, and then come home to make a local lunch.

Before getting our veggies and fruits, we browsed the art vendors for a while…

And I bought this fun orange hat! I’m going to wear it to Miami Hurricanes tailgates this fall (we are season ticket holders).

The Husband said I looked like I was going to the Kentucky Derby!

Never go to the farmers’ market hungry.  I wanted to buy it all!

So many pretty eats!

I grabbed a fresh-squeezed lemonade.  They had two options: splenda or sugar, so I asked her to go easy on the sugar.

We spent $17 on produce, $4 on 1/2 lb of pasta, and another $3 on my lemonade.  Yay, cheap groceries!

Our local lunch was DIVINE.  Most of these stuff is from Orlando, north Florida, or Georgia.

I made an amazing grilled portabella mushrooms sammie with onions, green peppers, and green peppers.  It was on this chewy and buttery organic garlic bread.

Plus, sweet potato hashbrowns and broc:

We are currently watching the end of the Tour de France.  The yellow jersey is decided, but we’re hoping Mark Cavendish pulls off a great finish!  I’m sad the Tour is over.  I love watching it.  There’s always next summer, I suppose!

My lunch today was a vegetable haven; sweet potatoes, plantains, beets, cauliflower (a favourite of mine), cucumbers. The cauliflower was a casserole with the rest on the side with some fried rice and fish, We do Sunday lunch big. I am totally stuffed and just want a nap, of course I have to go play chaffeur for my sister first.

Yay, local food. You should definitely check out the adorable Harmoni Market & Bistro in College Park — their big commitment is to the slow food movement, so almost all of their ingredients (from veggies and dairy to organic beer!) are Central Florida-grown and raised. It is SO fresh and delicious (and affordable!)

I was interested to see the stats for "calories burned" I usually hear about 100 calories per mile, but unfortunately for shorter girls like us we don't have the luxury of burning off that much – I assume those are the estimated calculation for 1 6' tall man!

Hm. I need to move somewhere green. Our farmer's markets suck. All they have is chips, salsa and jalapenos. lol. You do look like you are going to the Kentucky Derby. Very cute dress!

I love the hat! I went to a Farmer's Market yesterday but they didn't have fresh lemonade 🙁 There are so many Farmer's Markets around me though!! I'll find some fresh lemonade eventually (or maybe Iced Tea!)

Your lunch looks fabulous!! I just had a tuna salad sandwich on fresh bread from the Farmer's Market. Although, my tuna salad was more veggies than tuna. lol Should have just had a veggie sandwich

Love the hat! I have one like that and my boyfriend makes fun of it too. Clearly, he has no fashion sense 😛

I was so excited watching Cavendish win!! I was pretty bummed he missed out on the green jersey, but you can't beat 6 stage wins!! That last sprint was amazing, blink and you would have missed it!

I love going to farmer's markets! The one at Lake Eola is my fave in Orlando. St. Pete has a nice one on Saturday mornings, but that is over for me now. sniff.

Love the hat…I was thinking Kentucky Derby too! I love how you always look so pulled together when you go out. 🙂

awe, i'm so bummed – we were planning on going to the farmer's market today but got caught in a downpour on the way back from new smyrna and they were packing up once we got there. glad you go to enjoy it, though! i love the lake eola farmer's market and the winter park one. i've heard that lake lilly in maitland is supposed to have the best in orlando – but i haven't made it out there yet. wednesday night there's a mini farmer's market at stardust near baldwin park that i'm going to go to since i missed it this weekend. i'll let you know if it's good!
