New Bike

There’s a new baby boy in our house!  And his name is Fuji Newest 3.0!

I think it’s cute that the Husband has a blue bike, and I have a pink bike (well, a silver bike with pink accents… a real pink bike like the one below would be awesome).  🙂

This afternoon, I headed over to Glory Cycles, a high-end bike dealership in Orlando to pick up the Husband’s bike, which he selected last weekend.

On the way over, I drank a Skinny Vanilla Iced Latte to calm my nerves.  :)  I was just so freakin’ excited to get the bike (it’s kind of "my bike" — we ARE married!).

Glory Cycles is an AMAZING bike shop.  There are so many beautiful "dream bikes" at the store.  I stared at this pretty pink one for a good five minutes!

CIMG5809

That is SEXY.  I would be a much better rider if I had a sweet bike like that! 🙂

Glory Cycles gave us an a-maz-ing deal on the Fuji (it would be out of our price range otherwise).  If you live in the area, I definitely recommend you check out this shop.  There’s also a Glory Cycles website with free shipping on many items!  Again, the bikes are mostly high-end stuff, but the staff was so kind and knowledgeable and I will definitely take our bike there for repairs.

After the shop, I bought the Husband a stylish blue and white helmet, a water bottle and blue cage, and a little backpack for under the seat.  I cannot wait to go riding together!

Despite all the bike excitement, I struggled a little bit today with THE WORST HEARTBURN.  I never, ever get heartburn so this was a little unusual.  I ate my weight in Tums, but that didn’t seem to help!

Looking back, my food choices probably aggravated the heartburn, but all my afternoon eats were yummy, so it’s all good!

Afternoon snackie was cereal + banana (plus another 1/2 serving of cereal):

Dinner included 1/2 a whole wheat bagel and 1 cup of tomato soup (the ginormous bowls of cereal killed my appetite):

Plus a bowl of watermelon for dessert:

What’s a big purchase you’ve made recently?  Do you get nervous when making big purchases?  I hate to admit it, but I LOVE to buy fun things and spend money (it would be a problem, but I’m married to the most frugal man on the planet).

i totally get nervous whenever i buy anything big and after i take the plunge and purchase, i still tend to second guess my decision and if i could have gotten a better deal etc.

I just bought myself a road bike too! I stressed about it FOR DAYS before I bought it. I can still pay the bills and everything, I Just normally don't spend that much on anything "extra" so it was very scary!

seeing as I have no paying job at the moment, big purchases aren't really a reality for me but the last major purchase i made was my car! it was around this time last year, i believe.

    Sweet new ride!

I'm with you though – I think a pink bike would make all the difference in my skills 😉

I have been talking myself in to & out of buying an iPhone for months…. ahhhh the stress!!

  • Meredith June 5, 2009, 5:47 pm

The purchases don't have to be big to make me nervous. I spend a lot of time toying over purchasing a new purse.

I think riding bikes would be so awesome. Do you ever worry about wrecking into oncoming cars? I think that worry really stops me from considering it.

Our big recent purchase was… what do you know, a bike? For my wife though. I couldn't believe how much it cost to get started riding, with having to buy helmet, shoes, speedometer, and a million other things. I suppose one day it will be my turn, though for now I'm more focused on running.

I like your current bike better than that pink thing… too sissy 🙂

Yeah, I get nervous/buyer's remorse after I make a big purchase. I recently spent all my monies on the wedding…

  • Tanya June 5, 2009, 5:59 pm

Congrats on the bike! I got one a few weeks ago and am loving going out on it.

meredith – its a concern and i try to be as safe as possible!! i think my odds of crashing alone are higher than crashing into a car though. 🙂

Our trip to Disney World was a big purchase, and it made us nervous for good reason — now we're broke! That's ok, the memories will last a lifetime. 🙂

  • Matt June 5, 2009, 6:19 pm

I haven't really made any big purchases lately. I bought a new phone a few weeks ago, but nothing major.

    Nice bike though!

  • Rae June 5, 2009, 6:21 pm

I agree with you on the pretty pink bike! I have one just like it! Quintana Roos are amazing bikes and they have some reasonably priced tri specific ones for women if youre ever in the market. Plus….well, theyre PRETTY!!

I haven't bought myself anything big lately but have been buying way too many little things! they add up quick!

I absolutely get nervous/excited when making big purchases. I bought a Nordic Track Elliptical last fall and I was totally freaked when giving them my credit card info. But it turned out to be a great thing. I think I should worry more about all the money I spend on clothes, then maybe I wouldn't spend so much! haha!

I got heartburn really bad while I was pregnant and somebody recommended almonds. They TOTALLY worked for me. Papaya is supposed to help too. As does milk, and baking soda dissolved into water (which isn't the yummiest way to ease the burn). But my favorite method is almonds.

Well let's see, the last big purchase was a house! So yes, tons of stress about that. We've made a few other purchases, as well such as a new fridge, etc. Those aren't "fun" though! I'd rather be spending my money on fun stuff (like running gear, decorations for the house) =)

  • Mara @ What's for Dinner? June 5, 2009, 6:40 pm

Oh I want a pink bike like that!!! Then I can get a matching pink helmet and play "Barbie bike racer"!! Yeah, I'm a nerd… 🙂

  • nicoleishappy June 5, 2009, 6:41 pm

  • Brandi June 5, 2009, 6:43 pm

the new bike is awesome! how fun that you two can ride together 🙂

Our LAST big purchase was a car. But….we're about to buy a KAYAK TOMORROw! AHH!! We're both excited about it 🙂 We've been saving for a while.

  • Marissa June 5, 2009, 7:10 pm

    Great new bike!!

  • Island Girl Eats June 5, 2009, 7:26 pm

That pink bike looks like cotton candy on wheels!!!! So girly!

My most recent splurge would be my Garmin Forerunner 305 – love it!

  • Christina June 5, 2009, 7:45 pm

My biggest purchase lately was a new laptop. It takes me forever to finally go through with big purchases, they definitely make me a bit nervous!

  • Bec June 5, 2009, 8:12 pm

    what a pretty new bike!

  • Emily June 5, 2009, 8:25 pm

I haven't been a big purchase in a while but the one I have planned is actually a bike! We are moving to FL in July and my husband and I both want to get bikes.

  • Mica June 5, 2009, 8:45 pm

    Sexy bike!

Boo, heartburn is the pits, especially if it's not something you get frequently. I got it for the first time as college graduation approached. I had no idea what was going on and convinced myself that I was slowly choking to death on a burning chicken bone lodged in my throat…because that was obviously the most logical diagnosis. Hahaha. I hope it clears up soon!

  • roseyrebecca June 5, 2009, 9:38 pm

I actually just bought a bike too! It's not as nice as that one though.
    🙂

  • Susan June 6, 2009, 2:54 am

Yay for having a new bike buddy!! My boyfriend is an h-core cyclist, it's been so fun having him around as I get into it! Now it's just one more common interest for us to gab about and do together 🙂

Making big purchases stresses me out :S Even if I know I can afford it, I still think I have to cut back everywhere else. I guess I'm still in "poor university student" mode.

  • prinny June 6, 2009, 3:50 am

I just spent a ton of money on my last vacation: flight, wakeboarding classes, shopping… but no, I never second guess anything. You never know what lives brings the next day, so I think you should enjoy everyday – and if in your case a bike or in mine a trip makes one happy, then that's good 🙂

  • Nicole (anotheronebitesthecrust.wordpress.com) June 6, 2009, 4:50 am

My lastest huge purchase was a bike as well!!

  • Stacey June 6, 2009, 5:48 am

Luckily, Jason bought my bike for me, I was really scared to spend that much money! But I did spend a lot on my car, and it's still pretty scary!

Hehe, I bought Jason one of those packs that go under the seat for his birthday and he thought it was the best present ever lol. He loves getting bike stuff 🙂 Your husbands bike kind of looks like mine!

  • Colleen June 6, 2009, 6:14 am

My hubby and I just bought a Wii! We both go to school and work full time so no vacation for us this summer…it was a fun trade off! 🙂

  • Niki June 6, 2009, 6:52 am

My last big purchase was my car a few months ago!! I am thinking about getting a road bike sometime in the future… 🙂 That hot pink one is awesome!!

  • Susan June 6, 2009, 7:29 am

I usually take forever to buy big purchases (or little purchases for that matter!), but about a month ago I had about three days to buy a car. I almost lost it at the car dealership!

  • seesaraheat June 8, 2009, 5:16 am

I always get nervous making big purchases because I'm afraid we'll need the money for something else that comes up. But, when it ssomething you really need and something you will get a lot of good use out of, it is very much worth it 😉
