Afternoon!  My packed lunch worked quite well at work today, but I wasn’t as hungry as I expected to be and only ate 1/2 of the pasta.

I came home from work around 2, and the Husband and I immediately began to get ready to go on a bike ride! 🙂

I fueled up with a 1/2 a bagel and PB:

The Husband I began our ride very slowly. I wanted him to get comfortable on the bike and figure out how to change his gears.  Once he felt comfortable, we kicked it up a notch and started to FLY!

We biked 18.0 miles on my favorite route:

The Husband said it was fun to watch the airplanes take off as we rode:

I actually wore my knee sleeves on the ride today.  It was the first time I’ve worn my sleeves on a long ride.  They are great on the elliptical machine or a run, but I found them to be very uncomfortable and more of a hindrance on the bike.

Here are our statistics:

  • Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes (the beginning was very slow)
  • Distance: 18.0 miles
  • Calories Burned: 720 +

It was an excellent ride and I was so happy to have a buddy!

We came home and immediately attached the kitchen! I should’ve brought us some Goo, but I really didn’t think the Husband would last 18.0 miles! 🙂

I made a hummus sammie with sprouts.

And a bowl of nectarine and watermelon.

Yum!

I foresee BOWLING and BEERS in our future.  Yipee!!

Awesome bike ride! When is hubby going on his next one with you? 🙂

I tried to buy a bike off eBay today but unfortunately the bids got way too high. I'm going to keep looking for a used one though because I don't think we can afford a new one and I really want to get out biking this summer!

Oh, i've been meaning to ask you! Do you ever roller blade?? I LOVE it and used to do it everyday a few summers ago. It's a nice non-impact activity!

It is great how you can exercise together now! When Patrick and I run he always leaves me in the dust! Bowling and beer sound like a great night!

I can tell your meal portions are healthy, but how do you feel full on them? Did it take you a while to adjust to small meals or have you always eaten healthy portions?

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point June 6, 2009, 2:59 pm

holly – i think the thing my eating is that i eat small(er) portions, but i eat all the freaking time, and i think the blog reflects that! i would rather have a small lunch and then get to eat two afternoon snacks AND a third afternoon snack and a smaller dinner. i LIKE to eat and i've figured out i can maintain a lower weight if i just eat smaller portions all the time. LOL. so, i guess to answer your question, NO — my meals don't "fill me up" but thats OK because odds are, i'm eating again in two hours! some people thrive with three square meals, i would find it tortorous!

just an FYI on most days i take in between 1700 – 2200 calories. longer workout days obvi require more fuel, but i'm eating cookies right now so i think i'm good 🙂 lol

BTW, my best friend ALSO got engaged last night!! I also did lots of squealing when she called. 🙂

Yay! So happy for your first trip together! The first time I rode with Jason I lasted 20 miles then went home and fell asleep on the couch for 3 hours lol. Way to go husband!

how great you and your husband are riding together!! my husband is truly my favorite workout partner. when we started dating and running together years ago, running was a great bonding experience for us. i don't know, it's all the sweat and you get to see the 'real' person without fancy clothes or make-up.

  • Ellen June 6, 2009, 8:57 pm

    Hey Caitlin!

I know this is random, but are you originally from Pittsburgh or did you just go to college there? I remember you mentioning it in a post a while back.

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point June 6, 2009, 9:14 pm

ellen – yes the husband and i lived there from 2002 to 2007. 🙂 are you a pitt alumni too?

  • Katherine June 6, 2009, 9:39 pm

So cute that you have a biking buddy now! My husband and I ran together this morning and I really think it must be one of the best feelings in the world to get to work out with your beloved 🙂

    have a great night!

  • Ellen June 7, 2009, 7:15 am

No, I was born and raised there! I go to school in New York City and I have a year left, but I'm trying to go back home 🙂 — I'm applying to Pitt Med this summer.

So I guess you know "The O"?! Pittsburgh is such a funny little city.

I love your blog, by the way!
