Bicycle races are coming your way!

I had another great bike ride tonight per the Metric Century/Triathlon Training Plan.  In fact, it was such a good ride that I did 12.1 miles instead of the obligatory 10!  And I was fast (well, faster than last time).

Running Hiatus Workout #12

  • Duration:  55 minutes
  • Distance: 12.1 miles

I’m lovin’ the bicycle, by the way! It was especially hot in Florida today, and an afternoon run would’ve been out of the question.  My bike ride was so windy and cool… I loved it.

Eats!

Here are the afternoon eats.  I was a total grazer today!  But at least I kept it healthy. 🙂

I had a chocolate chip Z-Bar around 1:30.

Immediately following by dark organic chocolate!

Around 3:30, I just needed something to CHEW! I wanted gum, but I was out… so grapes did the trick.

And at 4:30, I made my Green Monster of the day:

Today’s Green Monster contained:

  • 1 cup almond breeze (unsweet)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 banana
  • 2 cups kale
  • 1 tablespoon flax

The GM was larger than normal because I added 1/2 cup water.  I wanted to see what it tasted like when I thinned it out a little.  The verdict?  Still delish, and I don’t really have a preference.

My post-bike race dinner was an ode to Cinco De Mayo.  It’s a shame I’m not drinkin’ a 6-pack of Corona right now, but this will do:

I had 1 cup (measured dry) whole wheat pasta sprinkled with a little shredded cheddar cheese

On the side, I had a stir-fry combo of broc, green pepper, red onion, and black beans.

Off to write some birthday thank-you cards!

Have a wonderful evening!

You’re making me so excited to get a bike! We’re hoping to move in a couple months and have said we’ll get bikes once we move. 🙂

Sounds like a fun bike ride!

I grazed all day too. That time of the month is coming upon me so I just can’t help myself! I cinco de mayo’d my lunch and dinner by putting tons of southwestern salsa on almost everything.

There’s got to be some fiesta at the bowling alley with muchas cervazas, no?

Ah well…I guess you did your fair share of celebrating last weekend.

    Hi,
I just wanted to say that I absolutley love your blog! I’ve been reading it for awhile and I love that all your eats are so fresh, colorful and healthy :). You set a great example, by showing that if you eat healthfully most of the time, it is ok to indulge every now and then. Keep up the great work Caitlin! :).

  • Emily May 5, 2009, 5:33 pm

you may have mentioned it before, but what kind of bike do you have? is this the one you will race with?
    happy cinco!

    leah – THANK YOU!!

emily – its a Giant. it retails for like $1400 (insane) but i bought it for $350 used. i definitely recommending getting a used bike! it’s a road bike, so i bought it specifically for racing. 🙂

  • ChickPea May 5, 2009, 9:36 pm

    Yay–LOVE Queen…and your green smoothie:)

  • Leah @ Simply Fabulous May 5, 2009, 10:55 pm

Z-bar! Haven’t seen one of those on the blog in a while! 🙂

I use water in my smoothie all the time.. with 1/2 cup soy milk..

saves money on the milk espec’ if you are drinking it everyday!

Hope that you enjoy the biking, as well!

I have a bike that the Board of Education provided me here, but I hate it. Holding out for a better one. That or walking is the main form of transportation (save for the train). The kids love Queen, too! =)

Just made it for dinner tonight and realized that I left it out the other day. Tofu can be used to stuff bell peppers. It’s awesome (if you like bell peppers).

  • Jordan May 6, 2009, 5:41 am

    That pasta looks yummy!

I love bike riding. I need to invest in a good bike.

  • Jess May 6, 2009, 9:44 am

I love that Queen tune….we did a dumb skit at camp one year just riding bikes across the stage to that song; silly but it brings a smile to my face every time I hear the song.
