Amazing Grass

in All Posts

I was so excited to see a big package of Amazing Grass on my doorstep last night:

I’m not going to lie — the best part about blogging is getting to test out products.  But, the Amazing Grass line is something I would actually buy myself.

CIMG5258

Why am I so crazy about this product?  Well, it’s essentially my GREEN MONSTERS in powder form, which is awesome for a busy gal like myself.   Plus, it’s organic, raw, gluten-free, vegan, soy-free, and dairy-free.  Basically, it tastes like grass (hence the name!), but the nutritionals are outstanding.

Now, I must admit that I can see a not-so-health-nutty person being kind of freaked out by Amazing Grass (taste, texture, and color is truly like grass), but I loved it.   What a healthy way to start my morning!

CIMG5261

I mixed the Amazing Grass with 1 cup unsweetened almond milk.   As the main part of breakfast, I heated up a whole wheat waffle I made and froze this weekend.

CIMG5264

And, I topped it with Vanilla Chobani and blueberries.  This was such a satisfying breakfast.

Guess what? My boss said I could leave work a little early today because I’ve been working so hard! 🙂 So, I didn’t do my strength routine this AM because I’ll have time for the gym in the afternoon!  YAY!

Did you know food scientists refer to the typical American way of eating as SAD –the Standard American Diet?  I think they are sad because they miss out on all the fun stuff like Amazing Grass!  🙂What’s the one "healthy" food you eat that would probably freak out most Americans?

Interesting product! I’ve never heard of it but would love to give it a try! Thats so awesome that you’re getting off early today- enjoy your workout. I don’t think I eat anything too out there, but the average person would probably freak over the amount of fruits and veggies I take in

  • Marisa (Trim The Fat) May 19, 2009, 3:31 am

That product looks neat – I would definitely try it!

Hmmm…I guess the average American would freak out over TOFU. I really love it, especially tofu scrambles!

  • Susan May 19, 2009, 3:49 am

I can usually guess how weird the stuff I’m eating is based on my boyfriend’s reaction to it. Most recently though, tempeh. Oh, and my many uses for oatmeal and oat bran that don’t involve eating it warm out of a bowl.

  • Colleen May 19, 2009, 3:49 am

Prunes! There not just for grandma – I love the way they taste!

I’ll have to be on the lookout for Amazing Grass! Thanks for the review.

  • Zesty Cook May 19, 2009, 3:51 am

very cool product Caitlin!! I am pretty calm when it comes to eating foods that are out thee but I tend to combine unique/weird flavors.

  • Adi (oatonomy.com) May 19, 2009, 3:51 am

    Enjoy your shorter day!

  • Tami May 19, 2009, 4:34 am

i just got a few samples of that myself, not sure i am going to love it but i wanted to try it out.

  • Kate May 19, 2009, 4:43 am

I would love to try Amazing Grass! What I eat that would freak people out is Vega, it is awesome! I put the powder in smoothies (natural or berry) and I must admit it turns the smoothie an off colour (a little darker than a Green Monster). It freaks my mum out a lot! Actually that’s how I got the berry flavour, so thought she would like it and didn’t. You should try it if you haven’t already!

  • Christina May 19, 2009, 5:05 am

that product looks interesting, I’m always up for trying anything healthy 🙂

I know a lot of ppl eat cottage cheese but I’m always surprised by how many ppl are grossed out over it too!

  • Carolina John May 19, 2009, 5:17 am

that healthy grass does look great! thanks for finding such a neat new product.

  • livelaughlyss May 19, 2009, 5:19 am

Yep, I’m definitely one of those people that would be FREAKED OUT by that! I don’t think I could ever force myself to eat something that I didn’t actually enjoy… I guess that’s just not “healthy” to me! Good for you for treating your body well though 🙂

  • Justine May 19, 2009, 5:38 am

One thing I eat that I’ve seen some people freak out about is plain yogurt…they think the yogurt should be sweet and flavored with something! I used to, too…but now plain is my favorite!

  • Brandi May 19, 2009, 5:44 am

green smoothies definitely freak other people out, even my husband 🙂

that’s awesome about getting to leave early today!

  • Red Head, Yellow Dog May 19, 2009, 5:45 am

so many things to choose from that freak people out! I think the thing I was most surprised that freaked people out though was HUMMUS! I thought hummus was mainstream now?? But nope…one of my co workers asked what was on top of my salad…I told them hummus..they asked *with a disgusted look* what that was. I said it was mashed up chickpeas and they sarcastically said “yea how can you pass up on that

    haha

  • Recipes for Creativity May 19, 2009, 5:55 am

I eat lots of ridiculously healthy foods that would freak out most Americans. In blog world it seems totally normal to eat baked tofu, drink green monsters, and consume lots of oatmeal and flax seeds, but when I tell people in the “real” world about it…well, they are used to being SAD.

  • megan May 19, 2009, 5:59 am

haha i think i have the tastebuds of the standard american. i don’t normally try all the new healthy foods in the blog world. i did just start adding spinach to my smoothies though! Although maybe that doesn’t count since I only do it because it doesn’t actually alter the taste or texture of the smoothie… 🙂 i’ve never tried flax seed, tempeh, protein powder, tofu, raw food, etc. maybe the longer i read blogs the more adventurous i will be 🙂

  • Betsy May 19, 2009, 6:05 am

Definitely green smoothies – I put stuff in there most people would probably not be too keen on: carrots, tofu, sprouts, flaxseed…. Mmm…

  • meegie lee May 19, 2009, 6:06 am

i have a friend who just thinks my spinach or kale smoothies are the weirdest thing -ever-. oh, and beet juice. but it’s so good!

  • Bridget May 19, 2009, 6:10 am

I eat seaweed of some sort almost every day (today was hijiki, yesterday was wakame). I also eat natto (Japanese fermented soybeans http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natto) almost every day. These are two of my most favorite foods here in Japan. They’ve both done wonders for the blood problems that I was having before I moved here, and they give me a MASSIVE energy boost that almost nothing else can.

Tofu and scallops are also the other two foods that I eat heaps of that a lot of my friends seem to not like. Mmmmm!

  • Nicole (anotheronebitesthecrust.wordpress.com) May 19, 2009, 6:28 am

    Mmmm! It sounds good!! 😀

  • Melissa @ For the Love of Health May 19, 2009, 6:42 am

Looks great!! How do you sign up for receiving all those wonderful products to test out?? I would love to be a part of that!

I don’t think I eat anything “freaky” but I do eat things in weird ways sometimes. I like to snack on raw mushrooms. I do eat things like tofu and every whole grain imaginable- is that weird maybe? haha Sorry- I got nuthin.

  • The Decayed Gentlewoman May 19, 2009, 6:49 am

I tried the amazing grass mixed in with water and thought it was pretty awful, so I tried to improve it by adding a little of the only juice I had on hand- cranberry. BIG MISTAKE! I choked it down, but gagged a few times. I felt pretty awesome for the rest of the day though. I just thought I’d warn you not to mix it with cranberry juice though- it is a bad combo! Haha!
My parents eat the SAD diet and I think they’re pretty freaked out by most of the stuff I eat. My black bean veggie burgers got some odd looks at the office last week as well. But honestly, for daunting appearance, I’d have to say the Green Monster. Even my health food loving boyfriend is a little freaked out by the thought of spinach in a smoothie. He doesn’t believe me that it is super yummy!

  • Graze With Me May 19, 2009, 6:49 am

The amazing grass sounds great! I bet it gives you a great energy boost too.

The other night while bar-hopping, I hadn’t eaten dinner yet so I ordered the hummus/veggie plate. The ONLY person who knew what hummus was was my fiance! Everyone kept asking me what I was eating…one girl (who claims to be a health freak) asked to try it and then asked if it was made of mayo? HUH?? But I was happy that everyone who tried it, loved it. Yay for healthy bar food 🙂

  • just me May 19, 2009, 6:51 am

awesome product package…and getting off early!

i bet the average american would freak out over tempeh or nori/seaweed…suckers.

  • NoMeatAthlete May 19, 2009, 6:52 am

Someone just wrote me a comment saying I should try Amazing Grass. They say it doesn’t turn smoothies ugly colors! I’ve only tried Barlean’s before, and the taste and looks were not very good 🙁

  • Amisha May 19, 2009, 7:03 am

I agree with the comment about Tofu! One of my friends seriously still makes fun of me for putting silken tofu in my smoothie. He dares me to eat gross stuff saying he’ll try the “tofu smoothie” if I eat *insert horrendously disgusting non-vegetarian food*.

  • Amanda May 19, 2009, 7:10 am

Ooh you lucky girl – I would love to try Amazing Grass!

Your question today is funny bc my boyfriend was over last night and opened my fridge and he was like, “Haha your fridge is not like most people’s!” He was referring to the tofu, tempeh, almond milk, cottage cheese, ground flax, etc. etc. Pretty funny!

  • The Healthy Apple May 19, 2009, 7:10 am

I love AMAZING GRASS…check out my post today because I just received an amazing package from them as well! Aren’t their powders delicious! My clients and I are obsessed with the chocolate powder—it’s like a dessert!!!!
Have a great day and enjoy your afternoon with getting out of work early.
    Best,
    The Healthy Apple

  • K May 19, 2009, 7:18 am

    Kombucha… I’m addicted to it.

  • Amy May 19, 2009, 7:19 am

I think my PB&J tempeh sandwiches would freak a lot of people out. Also my green monsters would be considered odd by some people but I love them and they're healthy. 😀

  • elliebelle May 19, 2009, 7:35 am

I’ve been taking the Amazing Grass Superfood in my juice each morning for almost a month and I’ve gotten used to it. (definitely better in juice than just plain water) My boyfriend kind of freaks out about it though. haha! It’s really not that bad! And I do feel slimmer, happier and healthier. It’s a great product.

  • Jenny May 19, 2009, 7:39 am

woo woo for getting off work early – you deserve it my hard workin’ lady!

hmm – one food that would probably freak others out is my pb2 – i know my family is a little weirded out by the concept of powdered peanut butter.. whatever 🙂

  • Jess May 19, 2009, 7:51 am

The green monsters, definitely – and the fact that I love brussels sprouts so much, I crave them sometimes! That sounds “normal” in blog land, but in the real world people think I’m crazy.

  • Jennifer @ His N' Her Health May 19, 2009, 7:52 am

I think people think my green smoothies are weird and I can’t convince them that it tastes sweet. Also I got a lot of strange questions when I brought over a Kombucha to my boyfriend’s parents

  • Jerilynne May 19, 2009, 7:59 am

I agree with everyone who says their green smoothies freak other people out. I’ve gotten some really strange looks from co-workers before. They have no idea what they are missing!!

  • Matt May 19, 2009, 8:12 am

Lol probably cottage cheese! I love the stuff but my parents think it is digusting!

  • Kelsey May 19, 2009, 8:27 am

    I love green smoothies!
My family is pretty much a steak and potatos kind of family, so almost everything I prefer to eat freaks them out 🙂 Yesterday, for lunch, I made a bulgur/black bean/spinach/squash/mushroom/cheese mixture and my mom looked like she was going to puke! But it was so tasty!
Thanks for such a lovely blog!

  • Sarah Mila May 19, 2009, 8:31 am

I’ve always wanted to try wheat grass but haven’t really seen it anywhere 🙁

  • Anonymous May 19, 2009, 8:34 am

I think people would be freaked out by the amount of vitamins I take, and that I put hemp hearts in my smoothies.

  • Bec May 19, 2009, 8:41 am

    mmm love the waffles!

  • Heather May 19, 2009, 8:47 am

Most people ARE freaked out by the green smoothies I drink. I bring them to work a lot and my co-workers are absolutely disgusted. I tried to get one person to try it and she was scared. But they all laugh and think everything I eat is rabbit food, anyway.

I tried an Amazing Grass bar I got at WF (they’re on sale right now for $1.99/ea) and it was pretty good!!! Like a healthy chocolate dipped granola bar.

  • Emily May 19, 2009, 8:53 am

Anything vegetarian like tofu, tempeh, boca burgers, etc. freak out my friends!

  • April May 19, 2009, 8:56 am

I’ve also tried that Amazing Meal, it’s a great product! I can’t seem to find it at Whole Foods anymore though and switched to something else. My “weird” food would definitely be the green smoothies I drink. No one gets that adding spinach doesn’t even leave any taste. The green powder supplement I put in there does turn it pretty dark though. Oh well, my smoothies are good!

  • Tea Time May 19, 2009, 9:17 am

I think Amazing Grass is good. It is easier to take down than wheat grass shots.

I like my apples and oranges just as much as the next guy but I also eat a wide variety of not so familiar fruits since I was born in Asia. There are some people I know that are “weirded-out” by some tropical exotic fruits that I eat like star fruit, jack fruit, cherimoya, guava, etc. I can’t even get them to try it. They are just missing out. I just don’t understand people who are so scared to try something new.

  • redheadedjournal May 19, 2009, 9:26 am

I don’t think I am adventurous enough to even try that 🙂

  • Kimberly May 19, 2009, 9:49 am

I eat kimchi almost daily, which freaks out 99% of Americans!

  • Kailey (SnackFace) May 19, 2009, 9:53 am

Holla to getting out of work early today–you definitely deserve it!

Ooh, I’d love to try those packets! I’d say people are surprised by most things I eat. Raw veg, sweet potato obsession, tofu, tempeh, oat bran, pumpkin…not all college kids have caught on yet!

  • Oh She Glows May 19, 2009, 10:23 am

ahhh I HAVE to try this!!!! Think I can get my mitts on some in canada?? lol.

Umm well I had dandelion in my GM yesterday, I think that freaked out many ppl!

  • Help Meghan Run May 19, 2009, 11:03 am

Anything hemp, definitely. 🙂 But hemp seed waffles and hemp milk are so tasty!

    http://www.HelpMeghanRun.com

  • KatieF May 19, 2009, 1:30 pm

Prunes…but I prefer to call them dried plums. They are sooo tasty when eaten straight. 🙂

  • Lauren @ Team Giles May 19, 2009, 2:30 pm

I just bought this last night! The Amazing Grass chocolate powder!

  • Annabel May 19, 2009, 3:39 pm

i LOVE LOVE LOVE Amazing Grass! Mixing the chocolate green food powder with unsweetened almond milk tastes like heaven! I got my whole family snacking on Amazing Grass bars too! Love them and would totally recommend their products to anyone.

  • ChickPea May 19, 2009, 9:56 pm

Hmm I probably would freak people out with my love of hemp protein and tofu (not together!)
