Recovery

in All Posts

Oh… my…. God.  I am so ridiculously sore from Crooms’ 15.4 Mile Trail Run (read the recap here).  Even my back and abs hurt (from stabilizing).  And check out the bra burn I mentioned in last night’s post:

Ouch!

HAPPY EASTER!  I don’t really celebrate Easter, but I like chocolate bunnies and Easter dinners.  :)  We don’t have any special plans today, and I have a TON of work to get done.  So, I better get cracking!

Breakfast was simple and so good.  After yesterday’s race-induced feast, I just wanted something small and wholesome:

My oatmeal contained:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Toppings: brown sugar and pecans

Plus a coffee:

Recovery

Today is definitely a recovery day, but I might go to the gym and tool around on the stationary bicycle.  I’ve found keeping minimally active helps my muscles feel normal so much quicker — otherwise they get stiff and uncomfortable.

Have a wonderful day!

Yikes, that is a battle scar for the ages. Props, Caitlin!

We have the same Easter celebrations: work, light recovery, and chocolate. Sounds good to me (minus the work).

That’s what I love about cycling and swimming… when I am pretty sore from running, they are nice recovery workouts that can be as easy as I want them to be! Ouch on the bra burn… is that from the camelback too?

  • K from ksgoodeats April 12, 2009, 6:56 am

Ouch 🙁 Take it easy today!!

  • Caitlin April 12, 2009, 6:57 am

  • greendogwine April 12, 2009, 7:33 am

  • Bec April 12, 2009, 8:12 am

ouch that bra burn is intense, hope you have a nice relaxing recovery day!

  • Kelly April 12, 2009, 9:38 am

    Need advice from ya.
I’m pretty new to running and my feet look TERRIBLE now! I have blisters and rough feet. How do you keep your feet looking nice? Does the blister thing ever get better? I have some very nice asics that I had fitted for me at a running store so the shoes are great. Got the special socks and everything.
Do you just get regular pedicures or what? I want to wear sandals but don’t want to gross people out. 😛

kelly – to be honest, my feet are pretty nasty. but i do get regular pedicures and always touch up my polish. 🙂

Ouch! That bra burn looks painful! Maybe try some aloe?

  • Susan April 12, 2009, 2:20 pm

Ouch, that burn looks painful! Putting some lotion on it helps if my bra ever turns on me, so you could try that for a little relief.

I definitely agree that doing something for recovery is better than doing nothing! Any sort of relaxed activity makes my muscles feel so much better! And I feel like less of a bum. 🙂

    Enjoy your Easter chocolate!

  • Abby April 12, 2009, 2:24 pm

    Ouch, that looks really painful!

    Awesome job yesterday!

  • Jenny April 12, 2009, 2:45 pm

Ouch. Bra burn is not fun. I use vaseline now before long runs. It works really well and is much cheaper than body glide.

  • Alison April 12, 2009, 3:17 pm

    Happy Bunny Day!

My husband always says that the best way to deal with sore muscles is to exercise more.

    Congrats again on the run.

  • Tami April 12, 2009, 4:16 pm

ultra glide is on it’s way to me via drugstore.com

after new bras, vaseline and all the rest i finally gave in. i hope it’s the wonder stuff that everyone claims it to be. the burn in the shower afterwards is sometimes worse than the run

  • Kaye April 12, 2009, 4:20 pm

My bf says that 2 aspirin and 15 minutes of cardio do wonders when you’ve worked hardcore and feel the soreness. It gets the blood flowing!
I find that it really works, he’s not just trying to trick me into working out!

  • Red Head, Yellow Dog April 12, 2009, 4:43 pm
