Morning, bloggies!  Not only did I managed to go to bed by 9:30, but I also wrote a whole page of creative non-fiction!  Yipppeee!

However, I woke up with a killer headache.  I pretty much attacked the coffee pot because caffeine always makes my headaches go away.  On Monday, I had four (FOUR!!) cups of coffee/tea, and yesterday, I had TWO cups.  All this caffeine intake is making me consider doing Chandra’s Crap Free Week — we’ll see!

Then, I fueled up with an amazing breakfast:

CIMG1608

I made WW pancakes with pecans using Hodgson’s Mills Insta Bake – yum!

CIMG1611

With lovely maple syrup for dipping…

CIMG1613

Plus a banana and blueberries….

CIMG1612

This was a great breakfast.  When I’m feeling glum that I have to go to work, something about a special breakfast truly improves my mood! 🙂

What is your food or drink vice?  I would definitely say mine is coffee because I *feel* so dependent on it.  Pouring coffee is literally the first thing I do in the morning!

    Glorious breakfast!!!

  • Erica February 4, 2009, 5:47 am

mmm yummy pancakes. I love coffee! I pretty much drink only water and coffee in the ams.

  • Leanne February 4, 2009, 5:51 am

I love drinking coffee or tea in the morning, but can go without it. It’s much harder for me to turn down an alcoholic beverage on a weekend when I’m out with friends! Someday, I will able to stop at my limit… someday haha

  • Mrs. LC February 4, 2009, 5:52 am

Yum looking breakfast! I don’t do coffee, just the VERY occasional (like once a few months) mixed coffee beverage. Although I did do hot cocoa for yummy worth this AM. 🙂

Do you have any unique free/ frugal fitness tips? If so, let me know on my last post. Thanks love!

  • chasedaylight February 4, 2009, 6:02 am

Ooo be careful with all of that coffee! During a midterm week 2 years ago I “OD’d” on coffee and got some major heart palpitations! I haven’t had any coffee that isn’t decaf since! Also be careful cutting out caffeine cold turkey…after the above situation, I did that and was literally paralyzed by a headache for 3 days. Never again!

    Yummy looking breakfast!

  • Carolina John February 4, 2009, 6:05 am

wow, that does look like a good breakfast. Caffeine will help deliver the goods to make your headache go away, and that’s why they add it to migraine medication like Excedrin Migraine. I love excedrin migraine when i have a headache, but i have to remember not to take it at night. i made that mistake once. only once.

  • Beadie @ What I Ate Yesterday February 4, 2009, 6:09 am

I love that little heart shaped bowl for the maple syrup.

My vice is also coffee. Like you, it is the FIRST thing I do when I get up, even before doing the first thing most people do first 🙂

  • Simple and Divine February 4, 2009, 6:13 am

I don’t drink coffee, but drink tea (decaf) in INSAAANE amounts— Like +64oz a day? Def a yummy addiction!

DIET S0DA! UGH… During my ed, I drank soda to take away my hunger during the day and DEF got addicted to it. Ewwww I need to DISP0SE of this nasto now!

  • Mica February 4, 2009, 6:22 am

Whoa, that’s a lot of coffee!

I don’t know what my vice is–maybe peanut butter? Cookies? I guess I have a sweet tooth, so sweets?

  • RhodeyGirl/Sabrina February 4, 2009, 6:26 am

TEA. I drink tea all winter long. You will almost never find me without a travel mug of either hot plain black tea or just hot water. I have about 5 mugs full of tea or hot water during the work day (usually 2 tea and 3 water). It’s ridic.

LOVE the heart bowl! Perfect for the month of Febs!

  • Nicole (anotheronebitesthecrust.wordpress.com) February 4, 2009, 6:39 am

Mine is probably coffee now, too! I never used to drink it, but my sister got me hooked! I have at least one cup a day.

I rarely drink soda, but once and a while I get a super intense craving for Diet Dr. Pepper! There is just something about the sweet, bubbly goodness!!

  • dailygoods February 4, 2009, 6:42 am

beautiful breakfast! i love the heart bowl 🙂 i used to drink coffee every single day in the morning, and now i have switched to decaf tea. right now i am realy loving my rooibos tea, its got a wonderful vanilla flavor and is my fav!!

  • emilydh211 February 4, 2009, 6:44 am

oh my gosh, i totally am with you on the coffee thing. I get up and go straight to the coffee maker in the morning. 🙂

those pancakes look so good, and I love the little heart bowl for the syrup!

  • Erin February 4, 2009, 6:51 am

Hmm, I think chocolate is my food vice. I feel like I *need* a bit of it throughout the day.
I love coffee but only drink it occasionally now, as it seems to make me feel yucky.
I start my day with warm water, lemon, and apple cider vinegar. It sounds nasty, but I swear it tastes okay and makes you feel AMAZING!

  • Marissa February 4, 2009, 6:57 am

    I’m all about the coffee!!

  • jenngirl February 4, 2009, 6:59 am

Great breakfast, it makes me smile!

I think coffee is probably my vice as well. The first thing I do in the morning (even before using the bathroom!) is set the coffeemaker! 😉

  • Elina February 4, 2009, 7:08 am

Hehe coffee addict. I like coffee and drink it every morning but I usually can wait until I get to work to do that.
    Delicious looking pancakes! 🙂

  • Jess February 4, 2009, 7:09 am

I love your little heart shaped dish for the syrup! It’s so cute!

  • Jess February 4, 2009, 7:13 am

Oh and I would totally love to interview you. E-mail me at jmilcetich at gmail dot com and I will send you your questions!

  • Victoria February 4, 2009, 7:14 am

I used to be really bad with caffeine, but now I don’t require it, but I still like it. I usually only have one cup of black tea in the morning though. My husband can’t do anything without like 4 cups of coffee though.

  • lizzie February 4, 2009, 7:15 am

Coffee and wine are my “addictive” drinks. I really can’t go a day witout coffee and I dont understand how people function without it! There is no shame in needing a little boost!

  • Kelly February 4, 2009, 7:19 am

Last semester I had a Venti Starbucks coffee every.single.morning….not only is that about 200 bucks over the course of the semester(which i don’t have!) but it’s 415mg of Caffeine every morning!!!

I’d like to say that I was able to kick the habit because I understood the health risks but…Starbucks is just really far from my dorm this semester. haha…Either way, I’m coffee free

    🙂 those pancakes look tasty

  • Kailey (SnackFace) February 4, 2009, 7:22 am

Now that’s a perker-upper for a midweek breakkie! I’d say I’m with you on the food vice. I love coffee, I will not give it up. I also chew a lot of sugarfree gum, especially during class, or else I clench my jaw–not good. I love that you’re writing at night!

  • Amanda February 4, 2009, 7:39 am

Mine def. used to be coffee, and still kindof is … but I have been pretty under control recently haha.

I only have a tiny 4-cup coffee maker (aka 2 small mugs of coffee) which I drink before work. Once I get into work, if I have any coffee/tea, I try to keep it decaf. I reallly hate the feeling of a tight head (which I get with too much caffeine) or the shakes.

I also have an obsession with the diet hot chocolate and have to have a mug of it after dinner for a sweet ending!!

  • HangryPants February 4, 2009, 7:41 am

I usually have 1 cup of coffee in the morning, but even then I also feel like a “slave” to it! I want to do crap free week too!

Your breakfast is so pretty. 😀

I had a question about the Hal Higdon training schedule. I’ve obviosuly never done a half before, so I was looking at the novice plan, but I feel like I already run more than that! Do you play with the plans at all?

  • balanceisbest February 4, 2009, 7:42 am

Geeze, I know how you feel. I set my coffee pot to start brewing 10 minutes before I wake up every morning. I can’t go to bed without fixing it first! That is what you call dependence. 🙁 I typically try to only have one cup, but sometimes I go for a second. I’ve started to drink decaf tea at work. Let me know if you want a buddy for Chandra’s CFW…I could definitely use it!

    Hope the headaches stay away!
    Kaneil, balanceisbest.wordpress.com

p.s…Meghann took good care of your camera last night!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point February 4, 2009, 7:48 am

heather @ hangrypants – yes, i play around with training plans. one, you need to make the plan fit into your schedule — like what if it has a longer run on a monday and you know that will never happen? sometimes if i look at a schedule and i’m really at week 6, i start there and repeat week 6 – 8 twice each to get me “caught up” to speed. most of all, i exercise more frequently than most plans call for, so i just add cross training or something in the “rest” days. i just use training plans as a guide to create my own. pay attention to overall weekly mileage increases and long run distances and try to stick to those.

ps – i dont think you need to use the “novice” plan. thats more for people who barely run at all. check out the intermediate one.

  • brandi February 4, 2009, 7:50 am

    Yummy pancakes!

I do LOVE coffee, and pretty much have it every day. I usually have 1-3 cups, but I don’t have it until I get to work during the week.

We don’t make it at home during the week, so that helps a bit.

  • tryingforatri February 4, 2009, 8:01 am

    Those pancakes look yummmm!

I love my coffee, but I can go a day without it. Beer on the otherhand, I cannot turn down. I go all weak and blubbery when someone tries to offer me beer.

  • chandra February 4, 2009, 8:21 am

Thanks for the shout out. 🙂

I’m still going strong on week #2 without caffeine!! A few days have been rough, but overall I’m glad I cut it out! I kind of miss the extra “boost” in the morning, but I don’t miss the crashing mid-work day at all. 🙂

  • ksgoodeats February 4, 2009, 8:28 am

I LOVE that heart bowl – too cute!!

  • Bec February 4, 2009, 8:38 am

That heart bowl is ridiculously cute! My vice is definitely chocolate, I can eat an entire dark chocolate bar in one sitting!

  • Meg February 4, 2009, 8:38 am

Coffee is definitely my vice. Not sure if I could ever give it up!

  • J February 4, 2009, 8:48 am

I love the syrup in the heart dish! So cute!

  • BOBBI McCORMICK February 4, 2009, 8:52 am

I just posted about coffee today:) LOVE THE PANCAKES!

  • luckytastebuds February 4, 2009, 8:58 am

what a fabulous presentation! I AM soooo curious how your pancakes manage to look so fluffy and lovely. Mine always comes out dense and doughy even though it comes from a mix. 🙁 I also make sure not to overmix. GAHH would love some tips!!!
P.s. I’m gonna attempt to make my own pumpkin butta thanks to your blog!

  • Julia February 4, 2009, 9:00 am

    CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is my frenemy!!!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point February 4, 2009, 9:04 am

lucky – i cook them for a short amount of time on a higher heat. maybe that makes them fluffy?

  • carolinebee February 4, 2009, 9:15 am

I feel ya on the coffee love- i figure i don’t drink (heavily) or smoke so bring it on!! Good luck if u do CFW- the coffee part would make it a no-go for me 😀 Some of my friends do Earl Grey breakfast tea with sugar and milk which they say is a great sub!

  • Sarah (lovINmytummy) February 4, 2009, 9:18 am

I’m with you on the coffee. I don’t even try to ration it anymore. It is definitely a pre-run necessity.

I love your maple syrup heart!

  • Allie February 4, 2009, 9:33 am

Caitlin- you were up and has breakfast made by 4:40 this morning??!! How do you do it??

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point February 4, 2009, 9:37 am

allie – no way! my blogger is on california time for some reason. it was 7:40 for me!

  • imadedinner February 4, 2009, 9:41 am

There’s nothing quite like pancakes and coffee!!!

  • lilveggiepatch February 4, 2009, 10:04 am

That breakfast looks so happy! The heart shape dish is so sunshiney.

My vices would be coffee, chocolate, bread, wine…

  • inmytummy February 4, 2009, 10:25 am

My vice is diet coke. I have gotten so much better about it though. I went from drinking maybe 3 a day, to 3 a week. I still love it though. But, oddly enough, only from plastic bottles, not cans.

  • Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) February 4, 2009, 10:26 am

Oh yeah I am a coffee addict too. I have 2-3 cups a day. I am also considering the CFW! I think it would help me tons.

  • seeleelive (for the love of peanut butter) February 4, 2009, 11:13 am

    vice=CINNAMON!

    peanut butter?

  • mytastytravels February 4, 2009, 11:29 am

I’m not a coffee addict, but I do have a fru-fru drink now and then for a treat. I love my glass of wine on the weekends, definitely peanut butter on anything and lots and lots of cinnamon!

  • Andrea of Care to Eat February 4, 2009, 11:49 am

I know I’m late on this, but vodka is such my vice. Two drinks and I’m like, “I don’t need to wake up early tomorrow and workout! Where’s that bag of potato chips? Smoke a cigarette? Sure, why not!” In the last month or two, I’ve finally reached a point where I can say no to drinking like a fish when I’m out with friends because I just don’t feel good about myself afterwards. It’s not fun anymore to feel like shit the next day. Hard to believe it ever was. I hate getting old.
Fabu pancakes by the way 🙂
    p.s. Cinnamon as a vice?! I wish!

  • dailygoods February 4, 2009, 1:27 pm

Caitlin, our thoughts are the exact same! i was thinking about doing a crap free week too. It just seemed to be such a great idea, and get you back to eating good clean whole foods! and make you feel great in the process 🙂

  • Meredith (Pursuing Balance) February 4, 2009, 7:18 pm

My addictions are coffee, diet coke, and chocolate! I try to limit myself though 🙂
I love the heart-shaped dish you have for the pancake syrup!

  • Angie Eats Peace February 4, 2009, 9:17 pm

Diet Coke used to be mine, now coffee is.

  • Courtney (The Hungry Yogini) February 5, 2009, 6:05 am

Definitely used to be Coke Zero. Now….probably coffee!!!!!

  • Emily February 5, 2009, 4:27 pm

I also head straight from bed to the coffee maker. I love to get up early enough to have some time in my robe in bed with a big mug of coffee before I start getting ready to go to work.

Like Andrea, I'm also working on being able to go out with friends at night and either order a water or tea, or just have one glass of wine. After that first Jack & Diet, it's so so hard to say no to a second one, and then even harder to say no to a third.
