Lots of Stuff!

in All Posts

Good evening! Well, since I woke up so late, we didn’t get around to errands until 1 PM… and I never got a chance to run. Oh well! I think my shopping functioned as cardio today!

After a trip to Wal-Mart for a wall mount for our television, we stopped at the Track Shack.  Track Shack is central Florida’s epicenter of all things running…. shoes, clothes, and races.

CIMG0907

The salespeople at Track Shack are very knowledgeable and helped me find a new pair of running sneakers.  I’ve been a loyal New Balance kind of girl for years, but the salesman convinced me to give Asics a try!  I hope they feel great on tomorrow’s run.

CIMG0913

I learned a great tip from the Track Shack salesperson.  If you can slide your sneakers off without untying the shoelaces, you have not tied the shoelaces tight enough.  If you shoe can slip off your foot, it is not providing you with the necessary stabilization to prevent injury.  Good to know!

After Track Shack, we hit up Dandelion (a vegan hippie restaurant) for a lovely and light lunch.

CIMG0909

My lunch included a serving of Native Mama Mix.  Today’s special was Chickpea Lentil, which included red and white quinoa, garbanzo beans, onion, broccoli, tomato, cilantro, lime juice, garlic cumin, tumeric, and salt.  It is gluten free and soy free as well!

CIMG0910

I also had a cup of the soup special, which was Cream Corn Broccoli.  This soup was a wonderful mix of broccoli, corn, garlic, soy milk, cayenne, soy bean, brown sugar, veggie broth, and salt and pepper.

CIMG0912

Yummmmm!  It was one of those meals when you feel warm and satisfied after, not stuffed and sick.

After many, many more errands, we came home and started to unwrap our wedding gifts! Halfway through the unwrapping, I snacked on a melted turkey and cheese English muffin.

CIMG0925

Some of you asked what we received for the wedding, so here’s a few pictures….

A new vacuum!  I am a little bit of a clean freak and I was just dying for a new vacuum.

CIMG0919

This is a special "pet hair" vacuum, and it really, really works!  My carpet is James-hair free for the first time ever!

A new coffee maker and an espresso maker….  Husband has declared himself a barista.

CIMG0927

A dual-zone wine cooler… ahhhh! We wanted one of these so badly.  We immediately filled it with the wine we bought on our honeymoon in Napa Valley.

CIMG0923

A George Foreman.  These totally take me back to college cooking, but they are so handy and I’m looking forward to using one again.

CIMG0922

Mostly, we received a lot of cold, hard cash.  Which was nice because we hope to buy a home in a year and half.   We registered through the site www.SmartHoneymoon.com, a great way to essentially ask for cash.  If you’re getting married and don’t need all the basic home goods, I highly recommend it!

By the time dinner rolled around, I just felt tired and lazy.  We made Anne’s Mac and Cheese with some yummy salads.

CIMG0930

Holy yum! 🙂

Time to veg on the couch.  Have a great night!

What’s the best present you ever received?

The best present I received was a racehorse for high school graduation. Actually, he was retired… but he had been my favorite Texas racehorse and I had watched him win races. His owners knew I loved him and when he got hurt, they decided to give him to me… and since they knew I was graduating, they waited until then and gave him to me as a gift!

Sadly, I had to sell him (he went back to his original owner/breeder)… and he is now in Florida.

Those new shoes are so cute! When I burn out my Nikes, my next pair of sneakers are going to be Asics, I think. Definitely let us know how you like them!

    I love those Annie’s shells!

  • VeggieGirl January 17, 2009, 6:26 pm

    Faaaaaabulous purchases!!

  • Kristin January 17, 2009, 6:29 pm

I love asics, I won’t wear anything else to run!
Your presents are fantastic, so jealous of the cooler and espresso maker (both remind me of italy!)

The best presents ever are tied between an Osco Fusion Blender/Food Processor from my Mom on my birthday this year, and the Hello Kitty Build-a-bear my boyfriend spontaneously insisted he buy for me as an early Christmas present =)

  • Justine January 17, 2009, 6:35 pm

Yay new shoes!!! Hopefully you’ll like the Asics! I’ve become an Asics girl. In fact, I just (unexpectedly) bought another pair today at the running expo! All the shoes were so much cheaper than usual, so I ended up getting another pair of the Kayanos. Same shoes I’m using now but $50 less than what I had paid for them initially. Figured I’ll need some fairly soon anyway! 🙂

  • Erica January 17, 2009, 6:35 pm

I really love new balance too but I just bought some Ryka’s and am enjoying them as well. Your new shoes look great!

We have a vegan restaurant near my house I really want to try. Josh isn’t really into that type of thing, so I’ll have to ask a vegan friend! I love that mama mix- look fabulous!

  • girlrunningaround January 17, 2009, 6:37 pm

Cash is the best wedding gift there is. That’s how we were able to save for the down payment on our potential new home. But vacuums are nice too! And I’m totally jelous of the dual zone wine chiller. I want one!

My favorite present is probably a ticket to Portland that my boyfriend got me for my birthday! I am super excited to visit Portland when I finish this semester.

Also, my kitchen-aid mixer I got for the same birthday!

The vegan meal you had sounds really delightful. Love it!

  • Bridget January 17, 2009, 7:15 pm

I have those same Asics and LOVE them!! Happy running 🙂

  • jenngirl January 17, 2009, 7:34 pm

Oo fun new shoes, hope they treat ya well in the morning!

Such fun wedding gifts…I love “useful” gifts, like coffee makers, and george foremans, so fun!!

    Have a great night!

The Anne’s mac and cheese looks so good in the picture – do you prepare it according to the box instructions, or do you change anything?

    Jolene

P.S. This is my first comment, although I read your blog daily 🙂 It is very inspiring! I am from Saskatchewan, Canada.

  • Olga January 17, 2009, 7:39 pm

I also have a pair of Asics that I purchased recently and I LOVE them! They make my runs feel like I’m on top of clouds! hahah

What awesome gifts! I got a little excited about the vacuum cleaner too because those are so essential!

Hmm…the best gift I’ve ever received had to be an Ipod when I graduated from high school because I NEVER expected to get one…My parents told me they were way too expensive and then totally surprised me!

  • greendogwine January 17, 2009, 7:41 pm

    That Dandelion lunch looks amazing!

I am SUPER SUPER JEALOUS of that wine cooler – that is AWESOME!

that annie’s mac looks quite tasty as usual!

  • Victoria January 17, 2009, 7:46 pm

Nice running tip. Lunch looks really good.

  • *Andrea* January 17, 2009, 7:49 pm

nice running advice!! i need to follow it because i am so lazy sometimes and slip my foot out after a workout then slip it back in the next day instead of relacing 🙁 i love ASICS!!! the only running shoe i will buy!! the best present i received was from my sister the summer before i went to college… she made me a giant scrap book.

  • Meg January 17, 2009, 8:12 pm

    Love all the gifts!

The food at Dandelion looks so yummy!

Best gift ever: trip to Hawaii.

  • Caitlin (see bride run) January 17, 2009, 8:12 pm

anon – if i buy the kind that has the powdered cheese, i use non fat plain yogurt instead of milk! its so yummy and tangy. but this kind had the liquid cheese, so there wasn’t much to modify. 🙂 thanks for reading!!

  • Megan January 17, 2009, 8:18 pm

Thanks for that sneaker tip! I’ve been known to keep them loose so I can easily put them on/take them off. I guess I should tie them tighter!! It looks like you got a good pair of shoes. I’ve always just worn either Nike or Adidas but I should probably look into a pair that support my knees more. Let me know how they work!

The best present I’ve received was my Jeep Liberty for my graduation present!

  • BOBBI McCORMICK January 17, 2009, 9:15 pm

OOOO and great choice on the shoes!

  • Marissa January 17, 2009, 9:40 pm

My husband and I received mainly cash after our wedding which we used towards the down payment! 🙂

Your mac and cheese looks extra creamy!!

  • Elizabeth(thelongweigh) January 17, 2009, 10:53 pm

I have heard so many good things about Asics. I am definitely going to buy a pair soon to see if that makes s difference for me.

I love your wine cooler! Thats a fantastic gift!

  • Mica January 17, 2009, 10:53 pm

Mmm, that lentil dish looks so tasty!

The best present I’ve received? I’m really liking my yogurt maker…

  • lighterportions January 17, 2009, 11:04 pm

I used to always slide my runners off my feet. Now I always make sure they’re nice and tight. Love yours! I keep seeing Asics everywhere, maybe I’ll consider them for my next pair.

Great wedding gifts. A pet hair vac, what a great invention.

  • Sarah (lovINmytummy) January 18, 2009, 12:08 am

How exciting to have new shoes! I bet your run will be cake tomorrow!

Your lunch looks fantastic. We need more hippy dippy places around here.

  • Lara January 18, 2009, 4:28 am

Yay for fantastic wedding presents!! I love the wine fridge–fancy schmancy 🙂

  • MizFit January 18, 2009, 4:32 am

long story short: I was living in the third world where it was just an EFFORT to do everything and for my birthday friends surprised me with stocking my minifridge.
forget the money 🙂 it was a tremendous gift not to have to walk to and fro the market place laden with everything.

    Ill never forget that birthday.

  • Aimee January 18, 2009, 5:26 am

I love asics, so I hope they work well for you!!

  • Beadie January 18, 2009, 6:37 am

    Enjoy the new shoes!

Very cool gifts you rec’d for your wedding.

I think the best gift I ever recieved was my engagement ring. I love it!

  • Julie January 18, 2009, 7:01 am

Nothing beats an amazing vacuum if you ask me. And I would marry my george forman if I could, he makes life so much easier. Nice kicks by the way!

  • Katie January 18, 2009, 8:01 am

I could spend all day in a running store. Thanks for the tip about tying your shoes. Good to know!

Would you mind sharing the brand/model of your new vaccum? How does it work on hard surfaces? I’m also a clean freak and ours just isn’t keeping up with the dog hair anymore.

  • Melissa January 18, 2009, 8:26 am

YAY! We have the same espresso machine!! 🙂

I think my favorite present was the snowblower we got from my parents last year for our housewarming 🙂 In Wisconsin, we use it practically every day! hehehe

  • HangryPants January 18, 2009, 9:39 am

I love asics! I find them much less clunky than New Balance.

Foremans remind me of college, too. I had one w/ a purple bun warmer. I also had a purple computer. What a dork! Anyway, they are convenient and I am sure you will use it lots.

I always love getting yoga class gift cards as presents.

  • Caitlin (see bride run) January 18, 2009, 1:16 pm

my new vac is the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Dual Cyclonic Vacuum. it’s awesome and you can get it at target!

  • Sarah W. January 19, 2009, 8:32 am

    nice vaccuum!

my favorite wedding gift was the le creuset dutch oven my sis in law got us – I use it ALL.THE.TIME. I love making soups & stews! I swear the food tastes so much better in the LC pot than it did in my nonstick stockpot – ugh!

  • Kath January 19, 2009, 7:56 pm

Please let us know how your like the coffee pot! We’re looking for one with a stainless carafe after our glass one shattered twice and I love the look of that one.
