Bagel Sammie

in All Posts

Good afternoon! I hope the day is flying by for you, too!

When I was at Wal-Mart yesterday, I looked for NF plain yogurt, but (of course) could only find yucky flavored stuff.  I settled on this type of yogurt:

I have a few problems with the nutritionals of this yogurt compared to my usual (like 2 grams of saturated fat and 33 grams of sugar per serving!!), but the taste was very yummy and it’s a nice change!

I mixed about 1/2 cup with 1/2 cup of Kashi Puffs for a mid-morning snack.

Lunch was a simple bagel sammie…

A whole wheat bagel, toasted with melty cheese and turkey deli meat.

With a lovely side salad.

I discovered this box of cookies in the pantry while cooking lunch:

I guess Future Husband got them while I was in NYC! I had two of the milk chocolate coconut crunches!  Yum!  And…. no trans fat, which always makes me happy. πŸ™‚

If you’re a yogurt-eater, what’s your favorite type and what’s your favorite way to eat it? As you all know, I’m addicted the Dannon All Natural Plain NF with Grape Nuts or granola!

See you later for a dress-fitting recap and a sweaty session at the gym!

lunch looks great! Chobani is my favorite! I like all the fruity flavors- plain as is or with a little granola!

  • Tina December 9, 2008, 10:54 am

Stonyfield all the way! Love that stuff!

  • Mica December 9, 2008, 10:57 am

I always love your yogurt pictures. I eat mine with some sugar or applesauce (like the French!). I might try to make my own some time…

Also, thanks for illuminating the dress process for me. I feel better knowing that you don’t have to be fitted three times for the waist.

loooove chobani vanilla! and fage total 0%. πŸ™‚ they both have some serious staying power!!! & taste natural to me:)

  • VeggieGirl December 9, 2008, 11:00 am

    COOKIES!!! πŸ˜€

**I like to use the Purely Decadent brand of soy-free, gluten-free, vegan coconut-milk “yogurt”:

  • jenngirl December 9, 2008, 11:03 am

I loveee the dannon vanilla yogurt with mix-ins, but if I’m eating yogurt as my protein source at a meal, I like plain, Greek yogurt…Fage is the best!

  • Halie December 9, 2008, 11:03 am

Yay cookies! Always a nice treat.

I really like Silk Vanilla Soy Yogurt. Yum!

  • Rebecca December 9, 2008, 11:07 am

I’m a fage gal myself. Lately I’ve been enjoying the 2%. Its so creamy!! I just finished some with bearnaked granola, blueberries and a banana. Yumm!

  • Katie December 9, 2008, 11:09 am

I love the 0% Fage, but when I can’t afford it (i.e. always) I go for Cascade Farms (sold at WF) NF plain or Stonyfield farms NF plain.

    Those cookies look sooo yum.

  • Julia December 9, 2008, 11:22 am

Trader Joe’s brand greek yogurt is the proverbial bomb diggity. Any generic brand of NF plain will do too.

  • Beth December 9, 2008, 11:25 am

Fage 0% in overnight oats. So thick and delicious! πŸ™‚

  • K December 9, 2008, 11:25 am

I’m addicted to the Chobs! I usually eat it with a z-bar mixed in or granola.

  • Balance, Joy and Delicias! December 9, 2008, 11:31 am

my favorite yogurt is definitely Fage 2% and my favorite/simplest way to eat it is with tons of cinnamon!

  • tfh December 9, 2008, 11:31 am

I think it’s so cute and a nice treat whenever I find the snacks my husband buys when I’m not around– your FH has classy taste. πŸ˜‰ Me, I like Stonyfield Farm and their Greek yogurt, Oikos– I try to do the organic dairy products when I can.

  • Bridget December 9, 2008, 11:53 am

I love Trader Joe’s greek yogurt, but when I can’t make it to TJ’s I buy Dannon All Natural Low Fat Plain and eat it with granola- yum! That’s my afternoon snack today πŸ™‚

  • Andrea (Off Her Cork) December 9, 2008, 12:17 pm

2% Fage with cranberry sauce and bear naked chocolate granola. YUM!

  • kathleen December 9, 2008, 12:20 pm

    hi caitlin!

just out of curiosity, what kind of bagels do you use? looks scrumtious!

also, caitlin and anyone out there! do you have days where you heartrate is randomly much higher than usual and therefore you burn a lot more calories than normal. i did my normal five mile run on the treadmill this morning but my heart rate was MUCH higher than usual and i burned about 100 more calories than usual. i mean it FELT harder than usual, but it still surprised me!

    happy tuesday!

  • bitesoflife December 9, 2008, 12:23 pm

I love Chobani, plain and fruit flavored. You just cannot beat the creaminess!

  • Caitlin December 9, 2008, 12:24 pm

kathleen- thomas hearty grains 100% WW. yum! and re: heart rate, yes… your hr can vary a lot, day to day. things like dehydration and lack of sleep affect your resting heart rate and (i imagine) wouldl also affect your hr while exercising. woo hoo for extra calorie burn! πŸ™‚

  • Anne P December 9, 2008, 12:28 pm

my favorite thing ever this summer was greek yogurt with cut up peaches… mmmmmm. sadly in prague there is no greek yogurt πŸ™ boooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

  • Shawna December 9, 2008, 12:34 pm

Mountain High (hah, I’ve never heard of it either but it was on sale. It’s so creamy) NF plain with Grape Nuts and a spoonful of pumpkin butter! Best way ever. Sadly, I’ve run out of all three and since I’ve only got a few days left before I go home from college, I’m NOT going to buy any. I’ll have a little more money for Christmas presents and it’ll taste even better once I’m home!

Love your blog! Have a great day!

  • Caitlin December 9, 2008, 12:45 pm

I picked up a gingerbread bagel at Panera this afternoon that I am going to have for dinner-your bagel totally inspired me!

as for yogurt, my fave is Chobani 0% vanilla with cinnamon!

  • Amanda December 9, 2008, 12:48 pm

I love the stonyfield nonfat plain yogurt. My fav way to eat it is mixed with pumpkin, cinnamon, and kashi go lean crunch!! mmmm

  • The Skinny Plate December 9, 2008, 12:56 pm

I haven’t seen Chobani where I live, but I love Fage 0%. I can’t justify myself to spend that much on yogurt, so I but TJ Plain Greek yogurt instead. Love to add mix-ins like granola, cereals, and reeses miniatures.

  • lauren December 9, 2008, 1:03 pm

stoneyfield w/ grape nuts and dried cranberries or raisins. and maybe add some almonds. yum!

  • Kristie Lynn December 9, 2008, 1:10 pm

I’m not a greek yogurt gal at all. If I’m splurging on a fruit-flavored yogurt I love the strawberry YoPlus yogurts. Otherwise, Brown Cow nonfat plain and vanilla yogurts are deeelicious!

  • losangelesdaze December 9, 2008, 1:19 pm

The 0% Fage Greek Yoghurt, and I mix in honey and cinnamon!

    It’s divine!

  • Sharon December 9, 2008, 1:29 pm

I just have the Astro plain yogurt, topped off with fiber 1 cereal, granola and pomegranate seeds. Mmmm.

  • Jill December 9, 2008, 1:59 pm

Your sammie looks delicious! I have been on a total bagel kick lately. I crave them all the time!!!!

  • Elina December 9, 2008, 2:34 pm

I’m addicted to Trader Joe’s nonfat european style yogurt. It’s only $2.99 for a huge tub and has the best texture!

  • Anonymous December 9, 2008, 3:04 pm

I like plain yogurt with lots of toppings! usually banana, honey or granola.
Kashi go lean crunch it's good with yogurt too πŸ™‚

I just read your random act of kindness story and totally think it’s the nicest thing I’ve ever heard!

  • magpie December 9, 2008, 4:08 pm

I adore Chobani blueberry with extra fruit or cereal.

I also love dannon light and fit yogurts, even with the artificial sweetener. I had the most delicious breakfast this morning with leftover rice and yogurt mixed together. I also added a chopped and microwaved apple. It was great.

  • Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) December 9, 2008, 4:11 pm

Like a lot of people here I’m a big fan of blueberry chobani.

I have never had Grape Nuts! Crazy huh?

  • emily December 9, 2008, 5:06 pm

nonfat plain greek yogurt with maple syrup and sliced plum!

  • Caitlin (see bride run) December 9, 2008, 5:31 pm

amanda – grape nuts are so yummy! you must try them!

  • imadedinner December 9, 2008, 6:32 pm

OMG if you can find Mountain High plain nf yogurt, you’ll fall in love! It’s cultured in its own container, so it has this amazing flavor.

  • B_Hlthy December 9, 2008, 8:26 pm

Chobani… hands down for me πŸ™‚

  • Rose December 10, 2008, 7:50 am

I could live on bagel sandwiches – mmmmm.

I live for Chobani as well.

  • Anonymous December 10, 2008, 10:36 am

I love Cascade Fresh FF Yoghurt (not sure if it’s sold anywhere outside of the west coast – though WF carries it here, so maybe?). It’s sweetened with fruit juice and has the lowest amount of sugar per serving that I can find for fruit flavored yoghurt (16g/6oz)- and they come in lots of great flavors.

This is the first time I’ve commented here – I ran across your site last week and think it’s great. It inspired me to stop procrastinating and get excercising again after taking a couple months off. Keep up the good work :o)

yay sheila!! thats awesome! nothing better than getting back on the bandwagon!

  • kmkiely December 10, 2008, 10:40 am

I love Stonyfield Organic Yogurt. I enjoy the french vanilla flavor but I know the added sugars aren’t great. I often add pumpkin and granola or another type of cereal and of course cinnamon. SO good with pumpkin!!
