Monday Traditions

in All Posts

Good morning.  Not to sound like a wussy, but it’s freezing in Orlando, relatively speaking!  It’s 44 degrees! ECK!  I’m sure that sounds warm to all the northerners right now, but us southerners aren’t used to it dropping below 60….. ever.  🙂 I hope it’s warmer on my wedding day!

By the way, 47 days until the wedding…. and only 17 days until my bachelorette party in NYC, where I’m sure I’ll really freeze my tail off!

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m the kind of girl who LOVES a good countdown!

I started Monday off right with a warm bowl of oatmeal and a big cup of coffee .

DSCN9969

Sorry if you’re sick of reading about oatmeal; it was too cold to have anything else!

DSCN9973

My oatmeal contained:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Toppings:  1 tablespoon granola, shredded coconut, and 8 chopped pecans.
  • No rum or brandy 🙁

And, as mentioned, a piping hot cup of joe.

(I see a second cup in my future).

Organize Me!

One of my Monday traditions is writing out my weekly to-do list.  In college, I kept a planner, but now I just use a sheet of paper that I tape to my desk.

DSCN9974

I also make a separate work-related to-do list.

I think writing out my to-do’s makes me feel calmer on Mondays.  Like many people, I tend to feel overwhelmed at the beginning of the work week.  Writing down all the things I need to accomplish makes it so much easier for me to focus.  Plus, sometimes I realize my workload isn’t as heavy as I thought, which makes me so happy.  If I realize it’s worse than I thought, at least I feel like I have a grip on things.

You’ll notice I schedule in workouts.  Running is non-negotiable in my world!

And Some Blog Awards….

blog award!

The Rules:
1. Post the award on your blog
2. Link to the poster for giving it to you – thanks, Fab and Delicious Food!
3. Link the originating post here
4. Pass it on to five deserving people

5. Post these rules for your recipients

I award….

1. Meghann from The Inner Workings of a College Graduate

2. Jennifer from Running With Food

3. Sabrina from Rhodey Girl Tests

…. and I gotta go to work, so 3 is all you get! 🙂

AND…. later I’ll be posting a new 10K training schedule. My next race is in 26 days, and my goal is to shave just a minute or two off my PR!

How do you keep track of your to-do’s?

  • Katy November 17, 2008, 6:23 am

I do LOTD of lists, too. At work I have everything in my outlook tasks tab (which I should be doing now..haha).

I know they don’t have one of these where you are now, but this is where we send Toby and we LOVE them. http://www.campbowwowusa.com/

  • jenngirl November 17, 2008, 6:45 am

I could never get sick of reading about oatmeal haha 😉

That to do list looks about like mine, I write on regular paper, I have a calendar, AND I have a google calendar on reader..haha planning gets me through the week!

  • Bridget November 17, 2008, 7:04 am

I recently tried to go all electronic with my to-do list by using my outlook calendar and task list for work stuff and my iPod calendar and a task list app…but I usually end up writing it all out on paper because it just makes me feel so organized!

  • lauren November 17, 2008, 7:04 am

I write out a to-do list also! It helps me keep track of everything, otherwise I feel completely overwhelmed!

  • just me November 17, 2008, 7:12 am

  • Erin D. November 17, 2008, 7:20 am

I keep a million to-do lists! I have a planner for weekly and monthly things, but I write a daily one every day on a post-it. I love checking things off as I complete them : )

  • Mica November 17, 2008, 7:27 am

I tape a to-do list to my desk too! It must be the way awesome people get things done, right? 😉

  • greendogwine November 17, 2008, 7:32 am

    Your oatmeal looks delcious!

I didn’t realize you were having your bachelorette party in NYC – you are going to have SO MUCH FUN! 🙂

  • Justine November 17, 2008, 7:43 am

I have a planner that I use for school, so I just keep track of everything in there. I agree that writing it all out makes it seem more manageable sometimes!

And it was 44* on my run this morning…waaaaay too cold for Houston! However, I talked to my mom this weekend and they just got some snow (in Ohio) so I’m glad we don’t have that at least! 🙂

  • ksgoodeats November 17, 2008, 7:45 am

How exciting everything is coming up!

Unfortunately the high where I live is supposed to be a measly 32 F 🙁

I’m definitly a planner user – I feel so much more organized!

  • Amanda November 17, 2008, 7:51 am

Hey! Looks like your weekend was a lot of fun and relaxing, too 🙂

My planner is basically what keeps me sane. My boyfriend always makes fun of me because I always have it in my purse and I use it to write down everything!! (I even write down what I wear to work every day because there is no way I could remember if I didn’t)

On top of that, I always have a bunch of post-its in my planner with temporary stuff like my grocery list, potential to-do’s like restaurant info, race details, etc … I’m a little anal about it!

Hope your week goes by quickly!!

  • Meghann November 17, 2008, 7:59 am

I begged and pleaded on Heather’s blog for Chobani and then Tiffany contacted me a couple of days later. She actually referred to my begging when she contacted me. 🙂 I suggest begging.

  • gilrrunningaround November 17, 2008, 8:01 am

I make to-do lists to. I get such a feeling of accomplishment when I check things off of it, and it makes me reassured I’m not forgetting anything. 🙂

  • kirsten November 17, 2008, 8:03 am

oooh if you need any tips on good places to go out in NYC let me know 🙂

  • seeleelive (for the love of peanut butter) November 17, 2008, 8:18 am

Your NYC trip should be a blast! Coffee is a girl’s best friend, FYI!!!

This morning as I was getting ready for class, your blog to came to mind. I wanted to tell you that I commend you for your attitude and how you are handling your wedding. It is so nice to see an educated, young, spunky, fresh and hip woman speak of nutrition and fitness and *actually know what she is talking about*. I cannot tell you how many bride-to-be’s I’ve heard claim they are on a “bride boot camp” diet and “shouldn’t be eating chips” or “cookies” or “nut butter”. it is so inspiring to see a positive, once again knowledgeable and funny woman like you go through the process of wedding shenanigans while enjoying her favorite foods, drinking like a normal woman should, and treating herself. Amen sister!!

  • RhodeyGirl/Sabrina November 17, 2008, 9:08 am

    thanks!

  • bitesoflife November 17, 2008, 9:18 am

Love your oats, they look really delicious!

I live by to-do lists and used to be by my planner. I have a white board on my fridge that has my lists all over it right now.

  • BOBBI McCORMICK November 17, 2008, 9:27 am

haha we are so alike in the whole schedule thing! I have a planner I write down my schedule in, google calander the hubby and I share so we dont overbook, and a menue calander on the fridge:)

  • Katie November 17, 2008, 9:34 am

I left you the exact same award on my blog! Well, now you have two!

  • Sharney November 17, 2008, 9:49 am

    Hi Caitlin,
BRRRRR!!!! That IS cold for Florida. It is cold here in Chicago too- 33 degrees at the moment. At least the sun is currently shining 🙂 We had snow showers off and on all day yesterday. I like the snow up until Christmas and then I am DONE!! Unfortunately the snow usually continues for several months after Christmas 🙁
Your oatmeal looks yummy- the perfect thing to eat on a cold morning to warm your bones! I would've loved to have had some oatmeal myself, but I was running late and had to settle for cold cereal 🙁

I also make lists like you do! I am a VERY organized person and I always feel better having a game plan for the week. I can't imagine not mapping out my week ahead. I also schedule in my workouts because to me they are very important. I track exactly what I plan to do exercise wise for the week and it always helps me stick to my plan!

Yay!! Only 47 days til your wedding! Happy Happy Joy Joy! You will have a blast at your bachelorette party in NYC! I love that town (probably because I was born & raised there!)

Have a great week and hope the coffee is keeping you warm & toasty 🙂

  • Halie November 17, 2008, 10:16 am

I used to be a to-do lister, but these days, I just do things when I remember to do them (my schedule affords it!)

I read the “Call Dog Hotel” I thought of lil Maggie! I hope she does well while you are gone for your wedding and your honeymoon!

  • arielle November 17, 2008, 10:17 am

I write a list on Mondays, too. It makes me feel better, and I love crossing things off. Sometimes I put things on it that I’ve already done just so I can feel accomplished so early in the week 🙂

  • Oh She Glows November 17, 2008, 10:24 am

I make to-do lists everyday! I love them and live by them! Its the only way I can keep track of my crazy life, haha.

    Have a great Monday!

  • sarah November 17, 2008, 10:28 am

i sit down on sunday and plan out all the dinners for the week, all my workouts, and all the miscellaneous ‘to do’ items and put them on my planner. checking things off is the BEST.

  • Nicole (anotheronebitesthecrust.wordpress.com) November 17, 2008, 10:37 am

I’m the same way with countdowns and lists! I love them and they relax me so so much.

  • Chic Runner November 17, 2008, 2:37 pm

I am so with you on the cold! I’m spoiled rotten here in CA, but at the same time… it’s 90 here, so that is a little too hot for November. :/ I am so so so with you on the list making too. I live by lists and post its.

  • HangryPants November 17, 2008, 8:50 pm

I make lots of to do lists. I wish I was more organized. 🙁

Congrats on the award. As you know, I think you’re blog and you are totally amazing. You definitely deserve the award!

  • runningwithfood.com November 18, 2008, 5:38 am

Ahh … shucks! Thanks for passing on the fun and fabulous award! Congrats to you, girly! Well deserved!!

Such a pretty bowl of oats!!

I am a HUGE list person as well … it keeps life all clean and organized!! 🙂

  • Tim Rosanelli November 21, 2008, 7:37 am

The oatmeal looks delicious! You can never get sick of oatmeal.

I work every week off of a To Do List. One extra thing, I do is rate everything by importance. “A” rated items are very important towards reaching my goal. “B” rated items are somewhat important. “C” rated items are “Not so important”.
