Hello all! I’m trying to stay positive and productive this morning, but news of my family dog’s passing has put me in a funk.   As a result, my eating was a little off.  I tried to just eat what I was craving….

For a mid-morning snack, I had some baked tofu.

And I ate the other half of my Pure Protein bar.  Still meh.

I am normally super hungry for lunch around 11:30, but my tummy felt nervous and off all morning.  I made a delicious-appearing lunch, although I couldn’t really appreciate the flavors.

I used the grilled chicken leftover from my salad last night and made a stir fry with: 3/4 cup brown rice, zucchini, red peppers, and bella mushrooms.

I normally would’ve inhaled this veggie-rich, healthy lunch, but I ended up just picking at it…. I only ate about half.  You know there is something wrong with me when I don’t finish my food!  I knew my 1/2 portion wasn’t enough fuel for lunch, so I also tossed back half a handful of almonds

I’m saving the rest for Future Husband to eat later.  It’s nice to have a human garbage disposal in the house. 🙂

ROAD TRIP

Clearly, I need to get out of the house and out of my funk.  We’re going to Miami for the weekend to see my friend from middle school, Lisette, and her husband, Danny.

Lisette was my college roomie, and I love her so much! I was Lisette’s maid of honor last year at her wedding, and she’s now my matron of honor! We’re going to buy her bridesmaid dress this weekend.   Here’s my mom, Lisette, and me at her wedding last summer.  Wasn’t she a beautiful bride?

I’ll be blogging over the weekend, but posting may be sporatic/once a day until I return on Sunday evening.  Except loads of food, beer, and shenanigans.  I’m going to try to squeeze in a run tomorrow morning before the rest of the gang wakes up!

How do you stay healthy on vacations?  I try to maintain my running schedule and choose to indulge only at certain meals, like fancy dinners out, while keeping breakfasts normal.

Definitely normal that your appetite is lacking, due to the circumstances – I know 100% how you feel!!! You know that!!!

FULLY enjoy your upcoming road trip – you deserve it!!

How I stay healthy on vacations = I remain active and have fun!!

    thanks liz and sharon.

good luck sharon! please post a comment and let me know how you do!

    Pretty dresses!

Sorry to hear your appetite is off, but it's totally understandable considering how sad you feel…

On vacation I pretty much try to eat smaller & healthier fare for breakfast and lunch (veggies, fruit, whole grains)and allow myself to enjoy a bigger dinner. I just try to eat smaller portions of the not-so-healthy foods. I also do LOTS of walking which is usually easy because there is so much to see and do!

Thanks for the encouraging words regarding my long run tomorrow. I will definitely pump myself up tonight -thanks for the advice and have fun in Miami!

I am the same way with eating when things aren’t going good. I have a nervous stomach and it prevents me from eating anything.

This weekend sounds like it will be fun, and I think you need some fun right now!

Sorry to hear about your current funk, sounds like a fun weekend with friends is exactly what you need. Enjoy yourself! 🙂

Sorry to hear about your funk!

As for vaca: I try to do the same thing… I plan a good intense workout at some point for sure , then try to pick and choose based on what the places we go.

I find it easier to keep dinners “healthier” since i really enjoy grilled chicken or lean meat and veggies ( which is at most dinner places ) compared to finding steel oats or all egg whites etc for morning foods…Always have dessert – if its looks worth it!

    Have a fantastic trip!

🙁 So sorry to hear that you’re in a funk. I hope you’re feeling better soon!
Try to completely enjoy your trip to Miami. Getting out of the house is always a wonderful thing for less than stellar moods isn’t it.

I really hope you have a wonderful weekend with friends!!

When I’m on vacation, my habits are very similar to yours – I always find a way to run and choose my food splurges wisely! 🙂

I’m really sorry about your dog.

Aw, I’m so so sorry to hear about your late childhood dog!

My family had to put my old puppy, Jason, to sleep about 4 years ago after he was practically run over by one of my neighbors. The poor thing was so sad and pitiful and there really wasn’t any other option but to this day it upsets me.

Just remember that the memories last a lifetime and beyond. And now you have a guardian angel dog :). I hope you start feeling better and get your appetite back very soon my dear!

As far as vacation goes, I’ve feel like I’ve been on a 6-month one 😉 so I’ve had time to figure out what works and what certainly doesn’t, lol. I’ve come up with a basic running and stretching routine that I can do basically anywhere I am and try to be as active as possible during other times in the day. All the walking while sightseeing has definitely been helpful! Eating-wise I try to eat as much fruits and veggies as possible and then look for the healthier yet still cultural options. And when I splurge… I splurge 🙂 but I make sure it’s something I really want, or even better, a delicacy only available in the region I’m in. So worth it!

Enjoy your time away, that’s the most important thing 🙂

glad your able to get away that will be nice:) Staying healthy is so hard on vacations, mostly on cruises ITS REAL HARD! Because I know that I have worked my a$$ off to stay in shape it helps me to keep things in perspective, just induldge at least once cause you shall recover when you get back, HAVE FUN! P.S. How do you bake your tofu? It always looks so good:)

Good luck with the dress shopping! Those decisions are always sooo tough!

    I'm praying for Louie!!

Lisette definitely made a beautiful bride 🙂

on vacas: never a problem in the food/exercise department for me. I have to watch it wayyy more if I'm alone in the house and bored, haha. on vacations I am just having too great a time to worry about food, and I'm usually really active w/ lots of walking. I can't imagine gaining weight on vacation, if anything it is the opposite!
hope you have a great time, you deserve the r&R 😀

  • Erin of Care to Eat October 10, 2008, 4:08 pm

  • Girl on Top October 10, 2008, 5:35 pm

I have to admit that I don’t keep up my running nor do I eat healthy, especially at my parents as they cook very greasy, unhealthy yummy food. But I usually don’t stay there for too long so that’s my justification.

    Sorry about the dog 🙁

  • *Andrea* October 10, 2008, 7:03 pm

I’ve tossed this question out there on a couple other blogs..I am FINALLY gonna check out a Whole Foods this weekend and I’m SO excited!! I made a very lengthy list with things I have been reading about on various food blogs (Z bars being on the top of the list:) and this shopping trip is gonna be quite costly. haha.. Anyways, just wanted to ask what your top 3 Whole Foods non-perishable products are. I don’t wanna get home and find out a missed out on a great product!

  • Bridget October 11, 2008, 5:01 am

Again I’m so sorry about your dog! 🙁

But if there’s anything that’s going to make you feel better, wedding shopping with best friends is definitely it!! Have fun!!

  • Caitlin (see bride run) October 11, 2008, 6:42 am
