100,000 and a NEW New Year

in All Posts

Whew… I’m sore from my tempo run! I crawled out of bed like an old lady.  Stretching is in my near future!

I want to wish the blog a very happy birthday–she’s 100,000 page hits old todayTHANK YOU (yes, YOU) for reading and/or commenting.  This blog has done a lot for me–emotionally, mentally, and physically–and I really appreciate everyone who takes the time to read or comment.

On that note… brekkie!!

A basic, but delicious breakfast.  Good thing this required virtually no thought, because I was so out of it while cooking.  I poured the water onto the countertop inside of inside the coffee maker…durrr!

I made French toast with WW bread and egg whites….

I also had a portion of canned peaches (packed in pear juice).  I’m trying to discover canned fruits that I love, since they are so convenient.   This was the only canned fruit (besides pineapple) I could find at my grocery store that wasn’t packed in heavy syrup.  Time for a trip to Whole Foods!

And on the side, some real maple syrup for dipping and a coffee.  Thank  the baby Jesus for coffee!

NEW New Year’s Resolutions

A few weeks ago, my friend Harry and I were discussing our 2008 New Year’s Resolutions and whether or not we had reached them.  My 2008 New Year’s Resolutions were: (1) Run a Half Marathon; (2) Maintain my weight loss; and (3) Plan an awesome wedding.

With only 80 days until 2009, I’ve already accomplished Goals (1) and (2),and (3) looks like it’s well underway.

So, I started thinking — hell, who’s to say you can’t squeeze in an EXTRA resolution… or even toss out your old one and start anew?

My NEW New Year’s Resolution is to walk my dogs, Maggie and James, every morning.  As in…. walk them around the block, not just outside to pee.  They deserve the exercise, and I would like to get movin’ in the AM, too.  Many mornings, I walk from my bed, to the kitchen, to my home office, and then I sit for 9 hours straight. Bletch!

So… I’m off to WALK THE DOGGIES!  🙂

Did you set a New Year’s Resolution? Have you achieved it? Do you want to change it and set a new one?

Hooray for a “bloggiversary”!!! Congratulations. PLEASE keep blogging, Caitlin!!! :0)

Fabulous breakfast with REAL maple syrup = hell yes.

No New Year’s Resolutions for me – I just make goals all year round :0)

    Happy Wednesday!!

Congrats on the 100,000 hits! I love reading your blog everyday and getting some motivation and tips on running 🙂

I’ve never been one to make New Year’s resolutions. I figure if you wanna do something, then just do it…you don’t need a resolution to set a goal. However, I’ve recently decided that my goal is to run a half marathon in 2009 (assuming my body will let me!) so maybe you could consider that a New Year’s resolution for 2009.

Good luck with your new goal of walking the puppies every morning…I wish I had puppies to walk 🙁 I’m sure my cat wouldn’t be very cooperative on a walk.

Yeah for you … and the blog! I look forward to reading each and every day! Keep it coming!

I don’t normally make resolutions – like Veggie Girl, my goals are set as needed. 🙂

  • RhodeyGirl/Sabrina October 15, 2008, 5:19 am

my goals were to: lose 10 lbs to feel BETTER about myself (done), run a half marathon (we trained for 12 weeks and got up to 12 mile runs, but as we know I fell so this will be postponed to next year), and to always, i mean ALWAYS see the glass half full (done!).

    Happy 100,000 Blog Birthday!!

Congrats and way to go on your resolutions for this year too!

I used to make french toast with egg whites ALL the time ! I haven’t done it in awhile because we keep travelling so much on weekends I don’t want to buy bread and it go bad! Looks delicious!

  • B_Hlthy October 15, 2008, 5:47 am

I tried to post this to you justine but the name link told me it was private- so justine- good for you!!! best of luck training!

    “Advice from my orthopedic”

” just start running, run what you can when you feel like, and its great to have a marathon in mind, but so many of you runners come to me when you get up to 30 miles/week with knee injuries and worry about the date of the marathon instead of your health”

I wasn’t too happy with him when he said that, but I think it is better to get a good base of enjoyable running in- there will always be another race if you dont feel ready for a particular one, you can do one the next week…

But I do LOVE Caitlin’s suggested training plans too-

  • Carolina John October 15, 2008, 5:47 am

Yeah! I LOVE seeing goals achieved. I hate resolutions, but love goals instead. So I set my goals in december, not new years. I have sucessfully remained a non smoker, and did complete my first triathlon in august.

New goals include the Myrtle Beach Marathon in february (also no hills — you should consider doing that one instead of another half), an International Distance triathlon in April or May, and the Beach 2 Battleship Half Iron distance tri in November 2009.

I really think it’s important to set one goal (or resoultion) that you think seems impossible. It makes you feel that much better when you complete it.

happy 100,000 hits! SO EXCITING! your blog evolved into a spectacular site! yayyy love your resolutions too. i LOVE making new year’s reslutions!

  • whatiateyesterday October 15, 2008, 5:50 am

Congrats on 100k hits! Keep up the great work!

  • just me October 15, 2008, 6:09 am

kudos on the hits!! that’s wonderful news for your blog!!! i’m so glad i found it!

and love the breakfast…can you make me some when i come out to FL? haha!

I wish i made new years resolutions…but i don’t. Since I started to heal from my eating disorder in college i think i have just tried ot tel myself over the year that i need to take care of myself and get a healthy mindset back. and truthfully, i have you to thank for part of that as of late because you mindset about exercise has def helped mine convert from “i have to run to burn calories” to other more healthy thoughts!! THANKS BABE!

and i love the new resolution too…it was my dad’s for this year too!

  • Rose October 15, 2008, 6:11 am

Congrats on the hits! Love your blog 🙂

  • Meghann October 15, 2008, 6:14 am

Soo much to comment about! 🙂

First – Happy 100,000 hits, I’m halfway there as well! 🙂

Second – I started losing weight to begin with thanks to my New Years resolution and I happily achieved it!

Third – The best part about having Abbie is having an excuse to go for a nice walk after work. We go to nearby parks for our walks, or just around the apartment complex.

Fourth – The ONLY reason I forgot there was Ice Cream in my freezer was due to the fact I was too busy pigging out on Peanut Butter Rice Krispies. Remind me not to make those again. They’re too tempting. 🙂

  • tfh October 15, 2008, 6:21 am

Happy birthday blog! That’s impressive, Caitlin– you have put a lot of work into this blog and it shows! I think it’s amazing that somebody I’ve never met can influence the food choices I make and the recipes I cook more than some of my close friends (and thank goodness for that– your creations are so much healthier and yummy too). I bet you’re going to have some pretty happy doggies with that new resolution!

  • Meg October 15, 2008, 6:51 am

    Yeah for 100,000 hits!

    Love your new resolution!

  • amanda October 15, 2008, 6:53 am

    Woo Hoo Happy 100,000!!

Speaking of out of it, towards the end of my run this morning, I was in such a daze/dragging my feet that I tripped and fell!! Boo hoo – at least I have a sweet Strawberry Shortcake bandaid on my hand (it’s not doing a great job though).

My New Years Resolution was to really get healthy and just to appreciate my body and what it can do. After suffering from an eating disorder, I find it so important to fuel my body and not deprive it! Food is too yummy to not enjoy!!

  • Bridget October 15, 2008, 6:55 am

    Congrats on the 100,000 hits!!

  • Becca October 15, 2008, 7:16 am

    Hey Caitlin,
I had a question about your coffee. What brand do you use and what type of milk/cream do you add into it? I add skim milk to mine but it doesn’t seem to have the pretty color yours does! 🙂
    Thanks!!!

  • Caitlin (see bride run) October 15, 2008, 7:28 am

    thanks guys! love you!

carolina john – way to go on reaching your goals!! i like to reach a little higher, too!

    laurel- good advice!

just me – i love you, seriously!

andrea – you are so sweet and your comments always make my day. just an FYI!

tfh- i love the online blogging commnunity, too! we have to all meet one day!

amanda- ohmigod…. i’m glad youre OK!!

becca- i use full-fat half and half and stevia. it’s about 45 calories and i can definitely live with that!! skim milk just doesn’t do it for me, but i like to avoid artifical creamers.

  • Caitlin (see bride run) October 15, 2008, 8:28 am

anon – thanks! that’s Arnold 100% Whole Wheat, but we just buy whatever WW without HFCS is on sale. 🙂

  • magpie October 15, 2008, 8:50 am

Hey, just found your blog 🙂

I love French toast for breakfast – I always make it with egg whites too. And lots of cinnamon!

Congrats on keeping your resolutions! I’ll have to start thinking of some for next year.

  • lighterportions October 15, 2008, 9:19 am

I always forget how good french toast is… and how easy it is to make a healthy version! Maybe that’ll be my special weekend breakfast 🙂

I like the new new year’s res. I wish I had some doggies to walk.

I don’t typically make resolutions. Maybe I should though. I’m not much of a goal maker. I think that’s probably not the best trait of myself. Goals are so darn important!

Oh and CONGRATS on the blog anniversary haha.

  • sharon October 15, 2008, 9:22 am

Happy 100,000! What an achievement! I'm so glad that your blog is so popular because I want to be reading it for years to come-please don't stop writing! The running tips, information & delicious food are priceless.

    Thanks, Caitlin :0)

  • Erin of Care to Eat October 15, 2008, 9:27 am

Yay! I love your blog and I’m so glad I found it. I wish you were my neighbor! You seem so fun.
I don’t make resolutions – I’m not opposed to them, it’s just that I’m already perfect.
JUST PLAYIN! I actually am opposed to them for myself.

  • Caitlin (see bride run) October 15, 2008, 9:30 am

lighter, sharon, zesty, and erin – thank you! i promise to keep blogging FOREVER 🙂

  • HangryPants October 15, 2008, 9:52 am

    Yummmmm. French Toast.

Great job on your resolutions. One of mine was to run a 5K and I did it. I’ll work on the others for the rest of ’08!

  • therunningaddict October 15, 2008, 10:00 am

    Congratulations on the 100,000!

I do not normally make new year’s resolutions, but I would like to run my city’s half marathon (or even better, the full marathon) in Spring 2009. But that’s a long way to go and I still have a lot of thinking to do…

  • Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) October 15, 2008, 12:21 pm

Wow, 100,000?! That’s awesome! Congrats! I absolutely love your blog! Keep up the great work!
