Bike in the Way

in All Posts

I haven’t put my bike ‘away’ (she lives in the office) since my triathlon.  First, she lived in the car for four days, and now, she’s residing in the hallway.  If she hangs out in the hall long enough, do you think I’ll actually ride her on the street?

Hmm.  I’ll let you know how that theory plays out.

Dinner:

Lots of quinoa, carrots, steamed kale, chickpeas, goat cheese, and Mmmm Sauce.  Slowly trying to eat our way through that massive container I made on Saturday!

Annnnd now I’m off to research ways to actually get our wine glasses clean (without soap, of course, because it messes up the taste of the vino!).  Any suggestions?

I sometimes let stuff pile up in the hallway or areas near my desk…..my husband prob hates it. But he is too nice to say it. hah. I should just move the crap, ya know?!

    Love the dinner idea 🙂

  • Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) June 20, 2011, 9:44 pm

Ah, this post made me want a bike here.. Okay, and remind me that i should not let papers pile up all over my apt. It’s tiny enough that I ought to keep it organized and neat.. all the stuff piled around makes the place look smaller! Whooopsies.

  • Aimee June 20, 2011, 9:46 pm

As long as you rinse them well with hot water, it’s fine to use mild dish soap.

  • Larissa June 20, 2011, 9:47 pm

    baking soda or vinegar

  • Gina @ Running to the Kitchen June 20, 2011, 9:49 pm

    try white vinegar

  • mary (what's cookin with mary) June 20, 2011, 9:51 pm

After seeing mmm sauce on here earlier I just had to whip some up to go with dinner 🙂 HAd mine over a bed of quinoa, chickpeas, sauted spinach w. garlic, roasted zuch and shrooms… SO GOOD. Can’t get enough. I added 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper. Best decision ever. Have a great night Caitlin!

  • eliza June 20, 2011, 9:51 pm

vinegar or castile <-all natural and AMAZING.. just a dot of it though.

  • Monika @ Powered by Paprika June 20, 2011, 9:54 pm

Soap totally does mess up the taste the vino (I’ve learned the hard way!)

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey June 20, 2011, 9:55 pm

Question – why is your mmm sauce green? 🙂

    • CaitlinHTP June 21, 2011, 12:27 pm

      Cilantro! I added a bunch.

  • haley June 20, 2011, 10:03 pm

Vinegar to clean wine glasses…and everything else from counter tops to windows

  • Christy @ So I Follow the Sun June 20, 2011, 10:04 pm

I agree with a few others… vinegar will get them nice and shiny. I think it also disinfects.

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) June 20, 2011, 10:12 pm

    Quinoa for dinner is perfect!

  • Kristin June 20, 2011, 10:13 pm

I MADE MMMM SAUCE and i think it might be the best sauce i’ve ever had!!! I am dying to find things to put it on! i was eating it like hummus earlier 🙂 thank you!!

  • Jake June 20, 2011, 10:15 pm

Just drink from the bottle!! Problem solved 😀

    • Jen June 21, 2011, 1:06 am

      That is awesome. 🙂

      • DadHTP June 21, 2011, 10:16 am

ok, no more teasing – the chain side goes towards the wall…

    • CaitlinHTP June 21, 2011, 12:27 pm

      Thumbs up.

  • DadHTP June 20, 2011, 10:15 pm

At least point the bike towards the door so it can retain a shred of hope…

    • Jen June 21, 2011, 1:07 am

      HaHaHaHa…LOVE your Dad! 🙂

    • Hayley @ Oat Couture June 21, 2011, 3:38 am

haha love it! And i’m making that Mmmm sauce today, have a feeling it will be featuring in every meal for the next few days! 🙂

  • Kate (What Kate is Cooking) June 20, 2011, 10:20 pm

Hehe, I do the same thing with my running shoes 🙂

  • Lily June 20, 2011, 10:23 pm

If you wash your towels with softener, and then dry your wine glasses with those towels you will get those streaks! try drying with paper towel or a different rag!

  • Lauri (Redheadrecipes.com) June 20, 2011, 10:32 pm

I need to give that Mmmm… sauce a try!

I agree, vinegar would probably work best.

  • Chelsea June 20, 2011, 10:53 pm

Alright I need to try this mmm sauce that you’ve been using every day hahah!

  • Keri June 20, 2011, 11:03 pm

Holy wow!-that dinner looks so so good. And I am making mmm sauce manana 🙂

  • Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga June 20, 2011, 11:16 pm

vinegar is a good way to clean most anything. It stinks, but it works!

And mmmm sauce. I never have problems consuming sauce. In fact, I kinda like to practically take a bath in most condiments and sauces 🙂

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing June 20, 2011, 11:16 pm

I wash wine glasses in the dishwasher. Oops.

  • Betsy June 20, 2011, 11:48 pm

This is completely off-topic, but I keep meaning to ask….What do you feed your dogs? As an almost-vegan, pro-organic, locavore I don’t know if I feel right buying conventional food for my dog, but also couldn’t handle going to a traditional raw diet for her (all that meat! ick!)… just wondering!

    • CaitlinHTP June 21, 2011, 12:26 pm

We fed them Holistic Select dry and Newman’s Own wet. Dogs can be vegetarian but you have to supplement them – I just never got around to researching the issue so I try to buy organic pet food when possible.

  • Khushboo June 21, 2011, 12:56 am

You always make quinoa look so good and easy! I love it but can never get it cooked right- either undercooked or TOO watery gah!

  • Jackie @ That Deep Breath June 21, 2011, 1:49 am

I’m with you on riding my bike on the street! It totally freaks me out! I know how to ride a bike but once I get out on the street it’s like I’m 7 years old again! I get all nervous and swervy and probably look like I’m drunk! it’s soo scary.

I have to make MMM souce…it looks a little weird but it sounds amazing!

  • Cara June 21, 2011, 3:55 am

Dinner looks great!!! I am always so bad at making quinoa, I’m never patient enough to let it fully cook. I am loving the recipes you have been posting lately though!

  • Jamie Walker June 21, 2011, 3:58 am

Your dinner looks fantastic…my bike also lives in the hallway. Sadly, I have no other place for it!

  • Lauren June 21, 2011, 6:55 am

Wow, you just made me realize that I have absolutely NO idea where my bike is at. LoL. We recently moved and had all of our things in storage for 5 months but now that we’re all unpacked and moved in, I have not seen the bike. Haha, uh oh!

    • CaitlinHTP June 21, 2011, 12:25 pm

      Hahh find yer bike!

  • Laura @ MyReasontoRun June 21, 2011, 6:58 am

haha, my bike resides in my bedroom. nothing sexes up the boudoir like a bike in its trainer! no way am i making her sleep in the garage!!!

  • Molly @ RDexposed June 21, 2011, 7:39 am

Meh, I just took my winter coat out of my backseat 2 days ago-right before summer, thank you very much! And the boyfriend always cleans his beer glasses oh so carefully which I unfortunately have no idea how though.

  • Errign June 21, 2011, 8:18 am

At least your bike isn’t permanently living in the back of your car because you don’t want to carry it up three flights of stairs to your apartment 🙂

I would think you could use a small amount of dish soap if you rinsed really well?

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin June 21, 2011, 8:32 am

Hey at least you got the bike from your car to the hallway. I’d say that’s progress! 😉

  • LizAshlee June 21, 2011, 8:35 am

Dinner looks outstanding…I love cooking quinoa and having it around to add to all sorts of dishes! MMMMmmmm! Majority of my recipe posts last week included quinoa as one of the main ingredients..lil bit obsessed…may need to back away! 🙂

    Have a great day!

  • Camilla June 21, 2011, 9:04 am

Try Lemi Shine! If you use a powdered dish soap in your machine you just put half dish powder and half Lemi Shine anddddd it’s sparkling! 😉

  • Leslie June 21, 2011, 9:06 am

Just wanted to let you know I used Operation Beautiful in one of my classes last night as an example of turning something negative into something positive! Also, I WILL be making this Mmm Sauce ASAP.

    • CaitlinHTP June 21, 2011, 12:24 pm

      🙂 Thank you!

  • Ashley June 21, 2011, 9:21 am

My running shoes always live next to the front door.

And mild dish soap is fine in wine glasses. I use the all natural Trader Joe’s stuff with no taste problems.

  • Jessica June 21, 2011, 9:26 am

I worked as a hostess at an upscale restaurant with several different types of wine glasses. They all just went in the dishwasher, and then someone from the back would bring us the hothothot racks of Bordeaux glasses as soon as they were finished; we used coffee filters to dry and polish them before putting them away (no streaks, no lint). I’ve been doing the same thing at home ever since with no problems :o)

    • Jessica June 21, 2011, 9:30 am

That gaspy face was supposed to be a smiley with a nose. Oops. I also handwash my glasses sometimes, too, especially the nicer ones – but I don’t use them as often, so the world market guys usually go in the DW 🙂

    • CaitlinHTP June 21, 2011, 12:23 pm

      COFFEE FILTERS. GENIUS.

  • Orla June 21, 2011, 9:54 am

If you rinse the glasses with enough hot (it has to be hot) water and let them drain a little, then polish with a specialist glass cloth you will be streak free. The general all purpose dish towels will always leave lint and streaks.
I would use the tiniest bit of mild dish soap to get them clean and to remove any lingering stains.
thats what I do and my glasses are all fine with no taste difference in the wine.

  • Ashley @ the fit academic June 21, 2011, 10:00 am

Let me know what you find out about cleaning the wine glasses!

  • Yolie @ Practising Wellness June 21, 2011, 10:17 am

I love that you call your bike “she” 🙂 xyx

  • Yolie @ Practising Wellness June 21, 2011, 10:19 am

Does “she” have a name as well? People name their cars so…maybe you name your bike? Whatever her name is, she’s very pretty and pink…maybe you should call her Penelope 😉 xyx

  • Angie June 21, 2011, 10:19 am

I’m going to have to make this sauce!
How long does it last in the jar?

  • jen June 21, 2011, 10:21 am

Did you add spinach to the MMMMM sauce? it looks different than it does on the page to which you linked!

    • CaitlinHTP June 21, 2011, 12:18 pm

      Fresh Cilantro!

  • Erin @ Naturally Addicted June 21, 2011, 10:29 am

I do that all time except with my running shoes. I leave them right by the door so I have to look at them everyday! I really need to get on this Mmm sauce… I am loving that quinoa dinner!

  • Marissa June 21, 2011, 10:30 am

Mmm, I’m craving some quinoa. Might have to convince the family to have that for dinner tonight!

  • Summer June 21, 2011, 12:26 pm

“If she hangs out in the hall long enough, do you think I’ll actually ride her on the street?”

    That’s what she said.

    • Summer June 21, 2011, 12:26 pm

Rather, he said, but you get the point 😉

  • Charise June 22, 2011, 10:26 am

Eh, I just put ours in the dishwasher. We’ve figured out which detergent works best in our washer without leaving water spots, in combo with Jet Dry, and just go with that. Handwashing wine glasses led to far too much broken glass at my place hahah.

I would think vinegar, while a great cleaning agent, could leave behind a slight vinegary smell that would interfere with the wine.
