Read and react.
As one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere, Haiti’s people are especially vulnerable in the wake of such a severe natural disaster. As many as 100,000 people may have died in the recent earthquake. Sometimes I read news articles about such disasters and just think, “Aw. That’s sad.” But today, I decided to actually do something.
Your donation to the American Red Cross will help the organization provide food and medical attention to thousands of Haitians who desperately need our help. If you have $10 to spare, please make a donation! And if you are in a financial place where you cannot make a donation, consider asking your friends or parents to donate or Twittering about the event. Every little bit – even just a prayer – helps.
Thank you!

so sad! 100,000 people, what a tragedy. thanks for the link!
I donated this morning! I went through the website but apparently you can also text Haiti to 90999 to donate $10.
I’ll be donating tomorrow morning when I get paid. First on ”my to do list”
I know someone who was affected. Please make a donation! Thank you Caitlin!
Great idea! My company is doing the same thing. I’ve been to Haiti and the people there are POOR when it comes to income/material things, but rich in faith and spirit.
Thanks so much for posting about this – I hope everyone who reads this makes at least a small donation. I mean, it’s comparable to one lunch out – and does so much more!
This is awesome. I totally agree. I see things all the time and think..that is so sad I wish there was something I could do. Truth is most of the time there is “SOMETHING” we can all do, its just being willing to do it!
such a great post, Caitlin – so true, we do not do enough — donating NOW!
I made a small donation this morning, but I’m so glad you’re spreading the word Caitlin!
Great post Caitlin. It’s just so true that every little bit helps!!
Thanks for spreading the word! I donated to the Red Cross this morning.
Thanks so much for raising awareness, Caitlin. I have volunteered for years at the Red Cross, and can attest to what invaluable work they do globally to provide much-needed disaster relief. $10 really does make a difference!
I don’t have much but I went to the website and donated $10. That is so sad
Great minds! I get email alerts from Oxfam, and over in the U.K. you can gift aid it, so the charity gets a tax back of 17.5% of my donation. Its a shame we can’t do more ;(
speechless…
Words just can’t describe how horrific this is – thank you for taking the time to share this link!
I was absolutely going to post something similar today. God bless, Caitlin!
It is very very scary, and so sad.
Thank your for bringing awareness.
Going to donate.
It’s really easy to donate- check out the red cross site- all you have to do is text them! I just did it- super easy! $10 Here is what to do, but if you want to confirm its legit, go to the redcross website. American Red Cross Pledges Initial $1 Million to Haiti Relief
Send a $10 Donation by Texting ‘Haiti’ to 90999
Great idea! And, I think it’s great that you put stuff like this on your blog.
Thanks for this timely post — it’s so important right now! I’m giving blood this weekend and while it won’t help people in Haiti, it *will* help people in this area.
What happened in Haiti is so horrible. My husband and I will be making a donation and so will his business. It’s a time to think of others right now. Money won’t bring back the lives lost, but it might help to bring food and water to those that need it. Simple things that we take for granted. Well done for making a stance on this tragedy.
thank you so much for taking the space on your blog to bring attention to this. every little bit does actually help!
so awful. I looked at pictures. It was heart-wrenching. It really made me want to give a donation.
That is such a tragedy! So often we complain about our lives or something that’s just “quite right” when we are SO incredibly blessed. And we don’t even realize it.
Great idea! It is so sad-
I can totally relate in wanting to do something. Especially since we just visited the Samana in November which is on the same island as Hait – it was crazy to see the structures when we visited, I can only imagine how everything has to be GONE after the earthquake.
Thank you Caitlin! This is a great post.
I was actually in Haiti a year and a half ago with my church.Seriously changed my life, no matter how corny that sounds. The amount of aid and international contributions I’ve heard about in the last hour have made me super weepy!
This post made my day! Haiti needs all that it can get!
The school where I teach is a uniform school, but sometimes we have dollar dress down Fridays to raise money for things. I am suggesting that we hold a dress down Friday this week and contribute the proceeds to the American Red Cross Haitian relief efforts. We are in Florida, so I have several students with relatives in Haiti.
weird – i was listening to just how awful it sounds on NPR and was just contemplating posting something like this! i am going to go donate now.
I donated using 90999 on my phone. I think it’s really great that technology makes it so easy to help others nowadays.
We are donating tonight. UPS is also doing free shipping on packages under $50. I am going to try to find out how to do a drive for needed supplies and where to get them.
Great post Caitlin.
Dear Caitlin,
Thank you for spreading the word. I am Haitian and am anxiously awaiting news from family there. We don’t know if they are dead or just unable to get to a phone. It’s an absolute nightmare to live in fear of the phone ringing. I’ve only recently started following this blog and am comforted by you and your community of readers.
Please donate to the American Red Cross or Yele or any other legitimate NGO. My country is a poor one and ill equipped to cope with a disaster of this magnitude. We need all the help we can get.
Thank you.
Aww Tass! I’ll be praying for you and your family.
Thanks, Caitlin! I hoping to see that my favorite “big” bloggers with lots of readers would make announcements such as this. I really appreciate that you know what an impact you have on the blog world!
Thanks for posting this Caitlin. It’s a good reminder that one person can make a difference.
I’m actually in tears right now after watching the news. Imagine your world blown to bits like that. I am broke as a joke right now, but I have a warm house, my family, my dogs and enough to eat. I will find a way to scrape up what I can and donate….I have the entire world compared to the Haitian people right now.
Thanks for posting.

Great post Caitlin! It is so sad, wish there was more we could do, but think every little bit helps!!
