My Fitness Bucket List
I sold a bunch of cookbooks and other things on Craigslist today and made a nice chunk of change. Wahoo! I slipped an Operation Beautiful note into one of the books before selling it:
Around 10:30, I got really hungry and had a small bowl of cereal to hold me over to lunch:
Lunch, although it was delicious, wasn’t very exciting. I had leftover vegetarian lasagna and a salad:
I love the crispy bits! Best part by miles.
Fitness Bucket List
A week ago, the wise, beautiful, and talented Angela from Oh She Glows posted her Fitness Bucket List. I loved the concept of writing down your fitness goals, especially goals that are a long, long way off.
Although my bucket list isn’t as pretty as Angela’s, I love it just the same! I hung it on my cork board near my desk:
Here’s the list:
Hopefully, I will check off item #1 in January when I run the Disney Marathon. I have plans to run at least two half marathons this Fall and Winter, so Item #2 will be achieved soon, too. The Goofy Challenge is definitely a long shot — it involves running the Disney Half Marathon on Saturday and the Marathon on Sunday. Yikes!
Yes, I consider labor to be a fitness goal.
Regarding "Run with a dog," I have always wanted a big dog that I could run with. Maybe in the next few years, we’ll be able to adopt a new furry running partner for me.
And "Run a 5K with Kristien" means I hope to one day run a 5K with the Husband.
What’s on your fitness bucket list? What items have you checked off?

that's an awesome list! i think mine looks a lot the same (minus the marathon, since i've already done that).
hoping for a sub 2:00 half this fall, but i'm not sure i'm quite there yet.
i really really want to get a border collie to run with. that would be superfun.
and holy! goofy challenge craziness. that is like ironman-like in epicness, but i'm sure it's doable. i mean, people do it.

Oh — and I run with my doggie all the time. I have a golden retriever and I love to run with him. I don't have any human running buddies, but he always wants to go, is always ready and gives me puppy-dog eyes when I try to skip out on him …

I feel ya on the pushups! There is a 100 pushup challenge out there on the internet – a 5 week workout designed to get you to 100 consecutive pushups. I'll do it if you will!

on Sep 2nd, 2009 at 10:22 am
hmmm
1. Run a half marathon (Disney princess half in March)
2. Do 25 pushups in a row (I am a weekling)
3. Run faster than 10 minute miles
4. Incorporate more speedwork in my runs
5. Practice yoga more often

For an obstacle race, I highly recommend a mud run — so much fun!
My list definitely includes "complete a triathalon" and "run a marathon". I checked off "complete a century race" and "half-marathon" this past year.

2 of my ultimates would be running Boston and running the Goofy Challenge for me. I would also like to run a marathon (hmmm that may have to come before the above 2 lol) and run a sub 2 hour half marathon. We'll see. I have so many and plan to do as much as I can in the time I'm given.

Great idea, always helps to write goals down.
Some that I have accomplished
-run a sub 4 hour marathon
-qualified for the Boston Marathon
-run a sub 3:30 marathon
-Goofy Challenge
-Mounta Washington Road Race
Some that I have YET to accomplish
-run a sub 20 minute 5K
-run an ultra marathon
-Goofy Challenge at my own pace, last time I ran the 1/2 with my hubby and the full with my mom… both are slower than my normal pace
-complete a sprint, olympic and half iron tri's

I love the list! For the "Run with a Dog" one, there are a few shelters near me that have 5K-9 races where you can run with your own dog, or a shelter dog that needs a home. I would look and see if there is something like that in your area.

- Hike as much of the AT as we can

1) That Goofy Challenge is INSANE! Props to you if you ever do it
2) LOVE that you added "have a baby" on that list. I need to add that to mine.
3)I want to run with a dog too. I attempted to take my rat terrier out with me a couple months ago on a run, thinking he is a hyper dog he will LOVE to run. Um nope. after about 15 minutes I had to swing back around to my apartment to drop him off.

i adore the crispy parts! i always want the edge piece of lasagna because it's the best!
i always *want* to make goals about running, but i have (terrible, bad, keep me up at night) allergies that get way worse when I run outdoors. Maybe find a part of the country with no allergens so I can run?
one fitness-y type goal i've done was to get good enough at ballet to look like i knew what i was doing… I knew i'd never be a prima ballerina, but I got to the point where the girls in my beginner class were asking me to meet with them before to help! Being the best beginner might not be a lot, but it worked for me

The Goofy challenge is on my list too, I'll be doing it in January! It's definitely nerve-wrecking and stressful knowing I have to amp up my training for it. Another one I have on my list is qualifying for Boston next year, we'll see how this season goes!

Nothing better than crispy cheese
My fitness bucket list is:
-Run a half marathon (maybe a full one eventually, but my knee has issues)
-Incorporate more strength training
-Get back into swimming (I was a swimming in high school)
-Try out new fitness classes and activities
I feel like I get hooked on one form of exercise and get lost in that mindset, forgetting there are other things out there. For instance, I am currently obsessed with running. However, I think in order to challenge our bodies, we need to switch things up and have fun.
Enjoy your afternoon!

Yes, having a baby is a workout..speaking from experience here!
I am going to have to put together a bucket list for myself.
But some of the things I would put on it would be:
Do 50 push ups
Take Bikram Yoga
Try and run faster than 10 min miles
Have a 2nd baby..yes I want to do it again!

Yes Labor IS a workout….on all levels: mental, spiritual, physical and MAJOR endurance test. Might be the hardest thing I've done yet and I'm a pretty active gal
But not to hard to stop me from trying for #2!
Good luck on all of your goals!

I like this post.
Run a marathon, 10k, 15k, half marathon, run a sub 25 minute 5k, metric century bike race, bike really ridiculously far..like 100 miles, be able to touch the floor standing (lol I've always wanted to be able to do this!) run with Oliver when he is old enough, triathlon

Oh man, I have to comment again … I ran a 5K with my husband (who is NOT a runner) this summer and he beat me by TWO seconds! He stayed out late the night before drinking, and at mile two he started turning white and huffing and puffing … I ran with him and encouraged him, but finally ran ahead thinking he would finish slower than me …
but he is SOOOOO competitive that right at the finsh line, I hear HEAVY breathing behind me and I realize it's HIM as he is passing me!
He said he was immediatley "retiring" from running. I was so mad … I went out and ran three more miles alone that day …
I can laugh about it now, and I guess it's a story to tell our kids when they get here!

Hi–love your blog! I've been following it for quite awhile but don't think I've ever posted. This post inspired me add to the bucket list discussion.
-Run a marathon without getting injured from all the training!
-Do more yoga, which I adore but sometimes forgo for running or cycling.
-Feel satisfied with my achievements, be them fitness-related or otherwise.
-Run with my dog once he's a year old.
On that topic, I also think running with a dog looks like so much fun. We have a bull terrier/catahoula mix, and I can't wait until he is old enough to run with me (he's just 4 months right now). He's already eager to do it! I don't think walks alone will satisfy him…

I completed a stair climb the last few years and I want to do it again. The Race Up Boston Place in February.
I am not a runner but I do love to stairclimb (I may find other climbs) and do the rowing machine at the gym.
I just want to get back into my gym 4 times a week habit.

Loved this post! I'm thinking that labor probably burns some major calories, haha. Hilarious.
1. Run a half marathon.
2. Try snowskiing again (had an incident as a kid, and now I have a fear of it)
3. Buy a bike + use it!
4. Go skydiving (not sure this counts, but I really want to do it!)

From your previous post…I love the idea of starting your day off with yoga/meditation. I try to do that but both my kids get up around 6am so it's tough to squeeze in sometimes. I'm excited to try it again though!
Great bucket list…as a mom of 2 I wholeheartedly agree labor is a workout.
You'll easily snag a sub 2:00 half given your run times…and good luck in all your goals! I have a friend that did the triple disney challenge, the 5k, half, full in one weekend. Said it was a blast!

I have a big dog but he is no good to run with. He always crosses to the other side of me when he's in front of me causing me to trip over him.
I'd like to run another marathon and do 20 pushups. I would also like to run a half marathon with my fiance but I don't know if that's exactly on his fitness bucket list.

I did my fitness bucket list the day after Angela posted hers. It was so fun. I have a lot of similar goals. I hope that by 2010 I will be able to run with a dog, too! You are so smart – labor is totally an endurance event! Team in Training should have a team for that!
Good luck with everything – look forward to the updates!

Heyya! I think this fitness bucket list is an excellent idea.
You're such a determined woman and I'm inspired by your drive and your successes and achievements!
And also i think you're more than capable of achieving everything you have on your list
For mine it would be something like this:
1. Start doing weights regularly at the gym.
2. Take up boxing
3. Learn to surf
4. Do yoga everyday for at least 30 minutes
5. Win school cross country
6. Scuba dive
7. Run a half marathon
8. Run a full marathon
9. Do a triathlon
10. At some stage in my life, become a yoga instructor.
I love your blog and read it daily. You've helped me become motivated to maintain a healthy lifestyle
Thank you Caitlin!!
