5K Race Playlist
This morning, I worked on my 5K Race Playlist:
My requirement for 5K race music is that the songs have to be VERY FAST. The first song ("Rock and Roll") is my warm-up song that I will play when I’m at the starting line. "Decode" will kick in when the race starts. Not counting warm-up, the entire playlist is about 25 minutes long, so I should be crossing the finish line as "Bombs Over Baghdad" concludes (hopefully).
I got really excited creating my playlist!
What are your favorite running songs?
Lunch was oh-so-wholesome:
Dark red kidney beans, roasted baby yellow potatoes with EVOO and organic ketchup, and green beans.
Yum!
What’s Happening in Blogland….
- Dottie from Foodcents is going to take 20% of the money she saves this month by using coupons and buying items on sale and donate it to my Team in Training fund! THANK YOU, Dottie! She wrote on her blog:
I am going to take a portion of what I save this month with sales and coupons and donate it to Caitlin’s Team in Training for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I do keep my receipts, so while we are in the middle of the month, I will still be able to calculate them with those in the coming weeks. When all is said and done, I will donate a minimum of 20% of my savings to this goal!
- The Holistic Doctor Is In! (my family’s online holistic supplement store) has launched a new section of the website called "Vegan Supplements." Customers said they would really like to see this section of the website, so my father-in-law (Dr. Cushing) happily responded. All the products are all-natural and vegan! If you have any questions about any of the products, feel free to e-mail me (seebriderun@gmail.com).

Caitlin, what is your secret for roasting potatoes like that?! They look perfect. My hubs always wants roast potatoes and I can never get them crisp like that.

Lara – I think it is the type of potato I'm using (yellow baby dutch or something like that). I can never get white potatoes to do it. I just rinse, slice, coat in EVOO and salt, and cook at 400 for about 20 minutes.

Thanks for posting your playlist, I love getting new ideas!
My running songs tend to be more rock-ish, or have some kind of anger behind them.
Right now I have a live version of Maroon 5's "Harder to Breathe" that I love. I also love running to Queen songs!

Awesome on the vegan supplements.
I'm ashamed to admit this, being a musician and all, but I am pathetic with my playlists. I desperately need new music, esp. better workout music!!

I really need a playlist update (I'm embarrassed to tell you that I do not know how to put songs on my ipod). Today I listened to Bif Naked during my weight training – aggressive – and perfect for pumping iron!

Aggh – Bombs Over Baghdad is probably my favorite Outkast song!! It's impossible to hear that and not want to sprint your guts out.
Of course I love Britney (who doesn't?), but I also love Kanye West, Jay-Z (Run this Town is awesome), and Coldplay. Love all kinds of music!

What a nice, simple, healthy lunch! Anything with ketchup is good in my book.
Awesome playlist, too. Maybe I'll use it when I do the Susan G. Komen 5K in a few weeks. I'm shooting for a 30 minute time, though, so I may add a song or two to your list

Foo Fighters are by FAR the BEST band to run to. My Hero, The Pretender, Best of You, All My Life, Monkey Wrench, the list goes on and on!

It's a really great idea to make a playlist for the race! For some reason, racing just seems so do-able when you break it up into songs like that.
I like running to Girl Talk!

I love the playlist. I have certain songs on my iPod that I love to listen to when I'm running or lifting or rowing or.. well, you get the idea
. I should really just put them all into a playlist or three!

Bombs over Baghdad is the BEST running song! That is on my 5K playlist as well. Another great one is "Misery Business" by Paramore. Great fast track to finish out your run. Good luck!

I've gotten into downloading podcasts from indiesouprunner.com. The songs are always upbeat, and I am introduced to new artists. I still love the songs from all the 80s movies to motivate me also (think Flashdance or Breakfast Club)!

Kidney beans are my favourite!!! I used to hate them in chili but I think it was because they were a poor quality kidney bean – I love the Eden's organic or soaking and cooking myself

It's funny you posted about music today because I just found out this morning that ipods and headphones are prohibited at my half marathon in October. I'm the type of runner who depends on her tunes to keep her chugging along, and now I'm very nervous to run. Does anyone have any suggestions as to running sans-music? Thanks!

Good thing you didn't try the Jillian Michael's workout today! I did it a few weeks ago 3 days before a 10 mile run, and I was still sore on the day of my run! She is very hardcore…although so are you so you probably would be fine
It is a great workout, so you should definitely try it sometime! Good luck in your 5K tomorrow!

I MUST listen to these songs whenever I run:
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger – Daft Punk
One More Time – Daft Punk (esp. toward the end!)
Electric Feel – MGMT
Jai Ho – Pussycat Dolls
and of course some Britney thrown in for good measure
Good luck and have FUN tomorrow!

Lately I have been listening to "Run This Town" by Jay Z (feat Rihanna and Kanye) and "Knock you down" by Keri Hilson. I pretty much get pumped any time rap or hip hop comes on but there are certainly runs when I like Ingrid Michelson or Imogen Heap or even Radiohead. Good luck in your race!

Caitlin, I have almost all of those on my 5K list…. and just added the new Mary J song "The One"… the beat is perfect and goes with all of the other ones you have on your list. Also try… "Lose My Breath" by Destiny's Child… It's great for the 2.5 mile slight slow down

oh and Thinspired, it is the type of potato. Baby yellow and red potato are the best at roasting!
I do my red potatoes quartered at 450 covered with tin foil for the first 20 mins and uncovered the last 20. they come out perfect everytime.
