Operation Beautiful

The response to Operation Beautiful has been so positive that I have created a new blog just for the mission. Go to http://www.operationbeautiful.com/ to read the latest notes!

One of my biggest personal crusades is ending Fat Talk. If my little blog only does one productive thing, I hope it helps readers realize how truly toxic fat talk is — it hurts you emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I want to reach as many people as possible with my End the Fat Talk message. If you’ve never read my Fat Talk page, check it out here.

Recently, I stumbled upon the Gives Me Hope website, and I was inspired to start my own random act of kindness crusade — Operation Beautiful.

Operation_Beautfuli

Operation Beautiful is simple: all you need is a pen and a piece of paper.

CIMG6166

I’ve begun leaving positive messages on the mirrors of public restrooms — at work, at the gym, at the grocery store. I scribble down whatever comes to mind — "You are beautiful!" or "You are amazing just the way you are!"

My goal is to leave as many Operation Beautiful notes as I can. Maybe some people read them and just smile, but I bet some people are truly touched by the effort of a random stranger.

If you want to join the mission, send me an e-mail at seebriderun@gmail.com with a photograph of your Operation Beautiful note or a description of your experience, and I’ll post it on my blog and on this page! And feel free to spread the word on your blog as well!

Join the movement and send me a photo of your Operation Beautiful note at seebriderun@gmail.com. And go to www.OperationBeautiful.com to read the latest notes!

Oh my gosh. You have no idea how perfect the timing of this post is for me.

Last night, after a little too much food indulgence I burst into tears, and wallowed in self pity, calling myself fat, feeling terrible and ugly. It was awful. It was also stupid! I'm happy to report that I feel much better today, but, I've still been battling that feeling of "fat/ugly" all morning and it's terrible–I know how ridiculous and how damaging it is–i KNOW that, but, it's a habit–albeit, a bad one, but, a habit!

Anyways, thanks, this really hit home. :)

It reminds me of something I read and copied down this week:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate,
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just some of us; it is in everyone,
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same."

    By Marianne Williamson

Expect to see some floating around VA from now on! :D

I saw the growing number of stories like this on GMH and I was already planning to start it up in my area. Good to know there's a lot of us ready to make others feel wonderful too!

I agree with the flickr group idea. Or at least a Facebook fanpage or something huge like that. I'd love to help run that with whoever. :)

    Keep up the inspiring work!

I will also try to inspire my emotional support students by putting random notes in their restroom.
Sometimes helping someone else feel better, helps you to also – Good Karma and all.

you really inspired me…I find that is far too easy to be carried in the numbers on the scale and the yo-yo effect of severe dieting and then over-indulging on sweets has plagued me for years. your video reduced me to tears but also has made me arm myself with post-its and a pen in my bag. the time has come for women to take back their identity. thank you <3

Even if you’re a man, you don’t have to post it in a bathroom. Scribble something about how someone is beautiful and give it to some woman, any woman and walk away. That would make me so happy.

Just saw The Today Show and was moved by the positive, beautiful, and much needed inspiration that Caitlin is spreading. I admit it also brought tears to my eyes to think of all the years I have wasted being uncomfortable w/ myself , instead of celebrating all that is good! I’m still learning in my mid 30’s to be nice to myself – and Miss Caitlyn , you showed up on a good day to remind me. Count me in – I will also spread the word about your book! Thank you for your brightness!

I do something similar to this and I absolutely love your idea!!! When I’m in the car by myself and I’m just driving down the road and see someone else driving alone, I wave and smile. People light up and smile back. Sometimes a smile from a stranger can change a life. I started doing this because one day I had an awful day but needed to go to the mall last minute. I was walking in the mall and a random girl i had never seen before gave me the cheesiest smile I had ever seen and then gave me a high five as she walked by.
