I figured out the car-shopping experience today. In 100-degree heat, an umbrella is required:
We looked around at two more dealerships early this afternoon. The Husband and I definitely had a clearer idea of what we wanted and did not like today, so it made the process go a little quicker.
I snacked on apricots:
We eventually found a car that we really liked, but the Husband needed to go home to "decompress" and think about the purchase.
I ate dinner around 5:30. It was kind of random:
I had leftover Thai food (garlic pepper tofu), a whole wheat mini pita, and some grapes.
Within 30 minutes of getting back to the house, the Husband declared himself ready to purchase the car and we drove back to the dealership.
Now…. let me explain our car situation. I have a 2002 Honda Civic and the Husband has a 1991 Toyota MR2. The MR2 has no air conditioning, no power steering, a horrible paint job, and is generally falling apart. However, the MR2 is the Husband’s baby. He loves that car so much. I love it, too. We went on our first date in the MR2!
When we decided to buy a new car for the Husband, I told him I wasn’t going to make him trade in the MR2. I don’t want to be the wife that forces my husband to give up his baby!
We drove the MR2 to the dealership and the Husband started to positively FREAK OUT about the thought of trading in the MR2! I thought he was going to have a breakdown. He actually started to cry. It would’ve been funny if it hadn’t been so sad! Needless to say, I didn’t push the trade in!
So…. now we have THREE CARS!
We bought a Chrysler Pacifica! I’m so excited!
Hello, tailgate space!
It will transition nicely to a baby mobile in a few years!
Hopefully, the Husband will decide to sell the MR2 soon (in his own time). Honestly, it’s not worth that much money so it didn’t really affect our car-buying ability.
We drove to the grocery store just to have something to do! I bought some Haagen-Daas Coffee Yogurt.
I was pleasantly surprised on how good this yogurt was! If I didn’t know it was the "real stuff," I never would’ve guessed.
Time for me to hit the hay. It’s been a crazy weekend and the week is looking even busier….
Lots of Healthy Living Summit planning to do this week! Stay tuned, because tickets go on sale towards the end of the week!
Are you really attached to your car? I don’t feel super attached to my Civic at all! But the Hus and the MR2 are like soul mates, I swear.

Yay for bike room!
Yay for a new car! I'm totally jealous!
I love my car, but it's nowhere near how my boy feels about his car. He will never ever part with his baby either!
Its beautiful! congratttttttttttttssss! I love the color
Awww, it's so rare when the BF gets emotional, so I usually let him have whatever he wants after that.
The new car looks great!! As for your question, I don't have a car of my own so… um, I have a emotional attachment to the public transportation system?
i don't even have a car. totalled it last year and never replaced. since i work at home, it's easier and cheaper to share one car.
My first car was a 1985 Z28 Camaro and I had her for 7 years. I cried like a baby when we traded it in and seriously, if I think about it too long now I'll cry. The manager of the dealership bought it so when I've got money to pour into it one day I'm gonna buy it back. I've had 2 cars since then and never felt that way about either.
Congrats on the new car! Once you get an SVU, it's hard to go back to being so low on the ground. I'm sure you'll love it!
Congrats on the new car!
aaaaaaaaaah baby mobile? NOOOOO… its for transporting bikes and other fun stuff only! lol
Congrats on the new ride! I am not really attached to my car as it used to be my mom's and I have only had it a couple years. However, it is slowly becoming a crapper and I am starting to think (freak out) about finding a new ride and car payments! LOL
Yay for the new car! Definitely not as attached to my car as your hubby is!
Nice car! I wouldn't have made my man trade in his love either
Nice wife!
Yummy dinner AND ice cream!
You look adorable under that unbrella! Love the new car and color is lovely!
Congrats on the new car!
I'm not totally attached to my car, though I do like it. I didn't think I was attached to my old car really, either, but when it got totaled I was a little sad to see it go
It WAS my first car, after all!
Congrats on the new car! Very nice!
I'm a little attached to my car because it was the first car that made me feel like an official grown up. I bought a fully loaded brand new '04 Accord in October 2003. It was the first new car I ever owned and I was absolutely in LOVE with it! Even 5 years later, I still adore it. I hope I don't have to part with it any time soon!
I think it's cute that your husband loves his car so much!
love the umbrella, and LOVE the new car! So exciting! And fro yo is a must in this heat.
Yay for the new car! I love it
I lease my car so I can't get attached, I have to give him up in 3 years!
I am totally attched to my car – her name is Vivian and I adore her! She was hit by a Uhaul about a month ago and when I found her damaged, I literally burst into tears!
Congrats on the new car!
Did I just hear the word 'BABY' haha!
YESSSS for a new car, I think getting to cars is more of a guy thing – for me, if anyone chuck away a soft toy of mine (I had it since I was a kid) I would cry, seriously!
Oh my gosh yes! I bought a 2007 Toyota Rav4 in CASH at 21 years old! I am so proud of that!!!
I'm not sure whether it's funny or sad that he cried about a car. That was sweet of you not to force him to do anything.
Love the new car. Definitely a good baby mobile. I almost bought that same yogurt today at the store! Good to hear you liked it. I'll get it next time.
Your new vehicle looks great- lots of room which is really convenient.
I'm really not attatched to mine at all. I get quite defensive if people make comments about it (it's reeeeally old), but I have absolutely no loyalty to it – I'd happily trade it in for a new one if I had the money!
Aww Caitlin, you are so sweet not to push getting rid of his baby
Seriously, I would have been the pushy wife…LOL. I'm glad everyone is happy
The new car is awesome
cute new car! red is my fav color
i just got a new car this week as well– it was a grad gift!!
Congrats on your car purchase!!!
Love the new car!
Can't wait to go joy riding with you guys!
Congrats on the new car!
I'm pretty attached to mine, just because it's really my first "own" car. But if I had the chance to get an "upgrade", I don't think I'd be so attached anymore =)
comgrats on the new car! exciting.
i'm so not a car person, and i can't say i'm the best driver, hence living in a city. but i always think it's cute how attached people get to their cars – the car does a lot for you, getting you from place to place every day!
Congrats on the Pacifica! I drove one once and thought it was FAB! And you're very right about it being a transitional car haha! Great color choice!
Ooh! Congrats on the new car!! I'm actually hoping to get one I like TODAY (excitement!!!)
My boyfriend has bought TWO new cars since getting a better job. One is his "summer car" that he stores in the winter, then another truck that he drives year-round. I tease him about it all the time, but whatever, cars are his passion. It's nice to see him in a position where he can afford the cars he's always dreamed of!
Hope you have lots of parking space!
This is the car I have! Great for getting two mountain bikes in, plus backpacking gear and the dog!
Thanks for a great blog.
I was attached to my very first car, a 1998 Toyota Corolla, that I would probably still have if it weren't for a car accident. I'm not at all attached to the car I have now but I still try to be nice to it, haha
Congrats on the new ride!
Yay for a new car! I don't feel attached to my car, but the boyfriend has a 68 Camaro. People have offered him 10-15k for it when it had no engine and no paint and he refuses! I would have taken the money LOL.
Congratulations on your new car! That's so sweet that your husband is so attached to his!
I am currently car shopping and it is so hard b/c I am really attached to my beat up old 97 explorer sport. I've had it since I was 17 (I'm turning 28 in Aug., so it's been a while) but it has been with me for basically every milestone of my adult life. But I have a "real job", a down payment saved up, and I know it's time to get a new car before mine starts needing tons of repairs. I don't like car shopping anyway, but a huge part of it is that it is going to kill me to get rid of my car.
Nice Ride!!!
I'm super attached to my car too. It's a 1993 Accord that my parents bought in 1994…that the car I learned to DRIVE! About 8 years ago they gave it to me (because my mom can no longer drive) and it's my baby. Two years ago we bought a 2008 Accord and my hubby is so sweet to let me park both of my rides in the garage…his truck gets parked outside. I admit to driving my old "Pooter" way more than I drive the new car!
Yes I have an old car too an RX7 and I love that. So your sweet to not have him trade in, awww.
Love your new car and all your eats made me hungry.
Congrats!
That looks like a very nice car. I was going to suggest the Tuscon but I think the Pacifica has more room.
I admit that I teared up when I traded in my Saturn. That was the first car that was all mine and I even got to help pick it out. But, I ended up with a Santa Fe which I love so it all worked out.
Also, I think it's interesting that you guys bought a car on Sunday. In Illinois car dealerships aren't allowed to sell cars on Sundays. Weird, huh?
Yay new car! And Chryslers! (i drive a Chrysler as well) You are gonna have so much fun with all that tailgating space
I'm not attached to my car at all. It has gotten so beaten up over the years, all by my crazy neighboors.
I know what your husband is going through! I just retired my 1994 Toyota Camry (259,000 miles). It was dying a slow death but I was SOOOOO attached to that car. Toyota's apparently are made like tanks!
I didn't trade my car in. I couldn't. It isn't worth much, so we still have it. I am going to donate it eventually.
Happiness Awaits
Wow that's a lot of room in your car trunk (I have a teeny tiny Scion XA, which I have to admit I love since it's the first one I've ever owned). Congrats!!!
How exciting to have a new ride! I loved my first car, a '89 Acura Legend Coupe (5 speed of course!) that I bought when I was 15 for $2000 and my daddy helped get it all fixed up. I drove it until Winter of my Jr year of college, when it broke down for about the 5th time since I had moved to WPB for school. With my dad 5hrs away I had to keep taking it to the shop and my darling became a dangerous time and money suck. I was so emotional about getting rid of her though. I like my new Civic (still white, still a coupe and still a 5 speed!) but it's nothing like my Legend was!
