Back in the Saddle

in All Posts

Since I’m weighing the idea of a metric century bike race in June, I figured I should probably go for a ride tonight! 🙂

I think my bike was happy to get off the porch and onto the road, too! 🙂

Running Hiatus Workout #10

I did a 10.5 miles.  There are no trails near my house, so I’m forced to ride on the sidewalk/bike lanes of a few major roads.  I try to be conscientious about cars and stop at all intersections, wait until I have "wave" confirmation that the driver sees me, and walk my bike across really busy intersections.  It’s not the ideal situation, but it works!

  • Duration:  52 minutes
  • Distance: 10.5 miles

I came home and did the following strength training exercises:

  • 20 push-ups
  • 60 bicycle crunches
  • 30 planked leg-lift crunches
  • 20 reverse crunches
  • 50 leg lifts, each side and weighed with a 3 lb weight
  • 20 inner leg lifts, each side and weighted with a 3 lb weight

Great workout!

Pizza and Beer – The Healthy Way!

I didn’t feel like putting too much effort into dinner tonight, but luckily I had a healthy frozen pizza to rely on!

CIMG4486

This is the second Amy’s Kitchen product I’ve tried recently, and I must say that it was really, really good!

CIMG4501

The crust was light and crunchy.  So flavorful!  Even the Husband devoured his portion.  My serving had 250 calories, and it’s all organic, which was nice!  I had broc on the side.

Plus…. I had to try the beer that Meghann gave me for my birthday!

CIMG4497

This Honey Moon is a honey weiss beer from the makers of Blue Moon, which is one of my all-time favorite brews!

I had a tiny glass and gave the rest to the Husband.

Afternoon Eats

Oh, and my second mid-afternoon snack was a crushed Kashi TLC bar and Chobani yogurt.  I just couldn’t stay away!

CIMG4483

If you drink beer, what’s your favorite beer?  My favorites include Killian’s Irish Red, Singha, Yuengling, and Blue Moon, of course!

My favorite beer is Blue Moon but unfortunately I’m allergic to beer and only get to take little sips of other’s here and there.

I am boring, I like Michelob Ultra! Most people probably don’t even consider it a beer! But I like it.

My fave beer = Fat Tire! Have you had it?

  • inmytummy April 28, 2009, 6:52 pm

My favorite is Stella Artois. I also like Paulaner a lot. Have you tried that? It’s similar to Blue Moon.

  • Siobhan April 28, 2009, 6:52 pm

I’m not a huge beer fan but I like blueberry beer, especially when they put real blueberries in it!

I LOVE beer and love BlueMoon, Sam Adam’s (especially Summer and Winter Ale), seasonal fall beers like DogfishHead’s pumpkin beer…the list goes on and on…

I would not be able to share that bottle! hahah

  • Melissa @ For the Love of Health April 28, 2009, 7:01 pm

That pizza does look pretty good! I like to keep things in the freezer too for times I don’t feel like cooking 🙂 Good choice!

I bet it felt good to get out on your bike.

  • BethAnn Caputo April 28, 2009, 7:11 pm

Blue Moon: regular, Harvest (I love pumpkin!) and Rising Moon Spring Ale, Sapporo and Summit Summer Scandia.

I meant to comment on this earlier, but I am having the exact same problem with my skin. It’s oily but also dry, I’m broken out and shiny, and my skin looks dull! It’s no good.

  • Lora April 28, 2009, 7:25 pm

i cant stay away from Guinness :)I drink like a man and I have come to accept it…tiny girl with a big guy’s appetite for liquor LOL

  • HangryPants April 28, 2009, 7:32 pm

I transitioned from girl drinks to beer in law school: lights like Sam Light and Amstel Light (I know this puts me in 60+ age range), Blue Moon and Stella.

I hope you got the pizza with the carmelized onions on it!

  • Tyler April 28, 2009, 7:36 pm

Blue Moon is good, but my favorite is an Athens local beer called Terrapin Gold 🙂

  • Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) April 28, 2009, 7:45 pm

    Full Sail Pale Ale!

  • Jordan April 28, 2009, 7:52 pm

I loooooooooooove Blue Moon, but strangely, I prefer it without the orange. Am I weird?

  • Nikole April 28, 2009, 7:55 pm

I love Blue Moon, Miller Lite(always in the beer fridge for my fiance) but my current new love is Mighty Arrow by New Belgium Brewing Company.

I also love Yuengling but I am in KS and I cannot find it west of the Mississippi 🙁

  • Kristi @ Sweet Cheeks April 28, 2009, 8:04 pm

That pizza looks great! I will be looking for that at the grocery store this weekend!

  • prettygreengirl.com April 28, 2009, 8:17 pm

Mmm, beer. I like Fat Tire a lot, and Anchor Steam – local! I also had a Tangerine Wheat the other day that was yummy, and Pyramid’s Apricot Hef is awesome.

  • Holly April 28, 2009, 8:52 pm

Beer is YUCKY! Hahahaha. I’ll drink Ace Apple or Pear cider though! 🙂

P.S. I got two of my livejournal friends to fall in love with your blog today. I made a green monster and showed them and linked to your green monster post. 🙂

  • redheadedjournal April 28, 2009, 9:45 pm

  • Leah @ Simply Fabulous April 28, 2009, 11:20 pm

I think it’s great that you are incorporating all kinds of exercises in nowadays! 🙂

    I love lager shandy…
beer mixed with a bit of sprite.
Ask Hubby about it… it’s super popular here!

I do prefer wine though 🙂

  • Thinspired April 29, 2009, 1:40 am

I'm inspired by your non-running workouts, so even though I'm resting my knee I went to the gym yesterday and cycled. I thought, "what would Caitlin do?!" Haha.
I'm not a big beer person, EXCEPT when there are chips & salsa involved…then a Negra Modelo is called for!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point April 29, 2009, 2:17 am

annabel – yes fat tire RULES!

bethann – i think it was a pumpkin spice? all the flavors taste good though!

inmytummy – YES! i actually did a college research project on paulaner vs. budweiser and as part of the project, i went to the paulaner factory in germany! it was pretty cool!

redheadedjournal – i love Frambois too!! sooo delish!!

  • Lauren April 29, 2009, 5:03 am

I am absolutely a beer fan! Amongst my favorites are: New Castle, Blue Moon, Sam Adams Summer Ale, Magic Hat #9, Wachussett Blueberry Ale, and any fall/pumpkin brew. I can’t bring myself to drink light beer – one too many in college, I think 😉

  • Paula April 29, 2009, 5:24 am

    Oooh, beer! 🙂

My favorite is Sam Adams’s Light. I also like Blue Moon, Shock Top (any wheat beer, really). I liked all the pumpkin beers I tried in the fall, too. I also tried, and liked, the Sea Dog Brewing Company beers. They have blueberry, raspberry (or is it strawberry?) and my favorite was apricot! Yummy.

I like going to Total Wine, where you can buy single beers to try, rather than a six-pack.

  • Brandi April 29, 2009, 6:03 am

    My favorites are:
    Blue Moon anything

    Shocktop – yum!

Magic Hat Not Quite Pale Ale

    Most Sam Adams beers

Star Hill, made in Charlottesville. All of theirs are good.

  • Jennifer April 29, 2009, 7:13 am

Oh you bike is so cute! I am using a 1986 red bike, not so girly but it was free and I can’t complain about that!
I LOVE beer but have been trying to cut back. My favorites are Guiness (surprisingly low in calories), Magic Hat (apricot flavored, yum!) oatmeal stouts, pretty much anything!

  • Anonymous April 29, 2009, 7:55 am

I love beers, especially dark and flavored beers such as Shipyard Pumpkin, Sam Adams Winter (all Sams brands really), Wachusett Blueberry, Chocolate Stout, the list goes on and on. If I drink a Coors Light now I feel like its water!

  • Beezus April 29, 2009, 10:07 am

I am a beer girl for sure. Living in the Pacific Northwest (highest concentration of microbreweries in the nation) it is hard not to be.

Some of my favorites would have to be: Spaten Optimator, RedHook’s Copper Hook, Oskar Blues’ Ten Fiddy, and the good ole Rainier and Oly.

  • KatieF April 29, 2009, 2:37 pm

I like this question. 🙂 I think Peroni is my favorite. My husband and I honeymooned in Italy, and lunch almost every day was pizza and Peroni at a sidewalk cafe.

I also like Harp, Saranac Pomegranate Wheat and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale a lot too!

  • Laura in Pgh April 29, 2009, 3:33 pm

i have 3 … not very adventurous … Stella, IC Light and Miller Lite.
