I already feel like I’ve been working forever. 10 hour days are going to do me in, for sure!

Since I ate breakfast earlier, I wanted to eat lunch at 10 AM!  Too early!  I had a nice snack of carrots, celery, and purple hummus instead.

Lunch was equally veggie-rific and Crap Free!

I roasted a mix of chicken breast, carrots, celery, purple onion, red creamer potatoes, pepper, EVOO, and 1/2 a cup of water for 50 minutes at 400 degrees, and I served it over organic wild rice.

This was GOOD! I love roasted veggies.  Makes me feel so wholesome. 🙂 And since the veggies were so flavorful, this mix definitely didn’t need any chicken stock or gravy on top.

Mmmm.

DON’T Sit Like a Lady

Did you know that crossing your legs slows the upward flow of blood back to the heart and increases the pressure on the insides of the leg veins?  This effect causes varicose veins, which are gnarled, enlarged veins, and spider veins — a common, mild variation of varicose veins.

How do you sit at your desk?  I tend to sit Indian-style (hey, I work from home, it doesn’t matter!).

    hehehe

I’ll never cross my legs again!

  • Ryan (chasing daylight) February 9, 2009, 10:44 am

I prefer Indian-style (criss cross applesauce!) too, or legs stretched out and propped on something!

  • Krista February 9, 2009, 10:46 am

I am SO bad for crossing my legs when I sit at a desk.. While vegging on the couch, I tuck them under me. Probably not any better!

  • tfh February 9, 2009, 10:54 am

I fidget all day long at my desk– right now I’m sitting Indian style, but often I’ll sit half Indian style with one leg down, OR if no one is around I sometimes even prop a leg on the desk, slacker-style. 😉

  • ksgoodeats February 9, 2009, 10:58 am

Oh my gosh – I sit at my desk in all different positions!! Right now my feet are flat on the ground though, boring but oh well 😉

    Yummy lunch!

  • ashley (sweetandnatural) February 9, 2009, 11:14 am

I like to sit with one leg under the other. I take my shoes off under my desk as much as possible!

  • livelaughlyss February 9, 2009, 11:23 am

i sit with my knees up to my chest and my chin resting on them, haha, how’s that for weird!?

  • brandi February 9, 2009, 11:25 am

Ha – i just uncrossed my legs once I Read that!

I’ve been trying to be better – I do it without even realizing!

  • Elizabeth (thelongweigh) February 9, 2009, 11:42 am

I don’t sit at a desk, but when I am sitting I try not to cross my legs too much for that very veiny reason!

  • Kate February 9, 2009, 12:02 pm

Hey! Have you heard of Tosca Reno’s “Eat Clean Cookbook”? She has amazing recipes and they are perfect for your “Crap free week”, and for all the time!

  • Mica February 9, 2009, 12:03 pm

I sit “Native American” style at my desk at home. At school, I’m trying to remember to uncross my legs so it becomes a habit. I don’t want spider veins, ick!

  • RhodeyGirl/Sabrina February 9, 2009, 12:04 pm

I always consciously UNcross my legs because I really don’t want those veins. (shudders)

Maybe tomorrow you could make your breakfast and save it for an hour later? or start work 15 minutes early and break an hour in for a 15 minute breakfast? I usually bring my breakfast to work and eat it as I am settling in/answering emails first thing in the morning.

Oh, and I def. ate my lunch at 11:30 today! ha!

  • Bec February 9, 2009, 12:31 pm

Your lunch looks great! I try my hardest to sit with my legs uncrossed but sometimes, like in lectures I just can’t help myself.

  • Betsy in Pgh February 9, 2009, 12:37 pm

Oh man now I’m gonna be paranoid about crossing my legs! And I noticed when I was eating lunch at home I sat Indian style. Quite comfy, but I can’t do it at work!

  • Kimberly February 9, 2009, 12:47 pm

I sit Indian-style as well! It’s comfiest, plus I feel like it helps me maintain good posture.

  • thecleanveggie February 9, 2009, 1:03 pm

wow that lunch looks like the definition of health 🙂
i like the purple hummus too!

  • Kailey (SnackFace) February 9, 2009, 1:06 pm

Oops, I cross my legs ALL the time. It helps keep me warm for some odd reason? Sometimes though, I sit with one foot on the floor and the other pulled up to my chest- if that makes any sense. Your roasted veggies look bangin.

  • sarahdbelle February 9, 2009, 1:10 pm

  • luckytastebuds February 9, 2009, 1:40 pm

omg i love this post! I am an incessant leg crosser but I sit cross legged/Indian style even at work! (i.e. right now!!!) hahah

Whenever I eat an early breakfast, I get sooo hungry before lunch, so it’s nice to see some snack ideas. 🙂 Gosh and your lunch just looks DELICIOUS and yes, crap free.

  • Andrea (Off Her Cork) February 9, 2009, 1:51 pm

That’s awesome that you get Friday’s off! I’m hoping my husband’s company will start doing that soon as well. 😀

I can’t sit crossed legged at my desk because my keyboard drawer is in the way. So I usually just sit with my legs straight out in front of me.

  • Anonymous February 9, 2009, 2:17 pm

you lay passed out with an empty bottle of booze at your desk?!?! oh wait, the OTHER Indian Style 🙂

p.s. my aunt is 1/2 American Indian, so excuse the offensive joke everyone

  • Mrs. LC February 9, 2009, 2:45 pm

just uncrossed my legs when I read that. 🙂

I’m totally ADD and am always switching up how I sit…feet on the floor, ankles crossed, legs crossed, Indian style, etc. 🙂

It was great seeing you and meeting Kristien yesterday!! Can’t wait til next time! 🙂

    Hey Caitlin-

I’ve been an avid reader of your blog for a quite a while now (almost since I started mine in Nov. 08). You’re such an inspiration to me. I am new to the running world and working on losing some excess weight right now.

  • Jen February 9, 2009, 3:23 pm

Yikes, I uncrossed my legs, too! I work from home but can’t seem to find a comfy position in my computer chair that doesn’t involve me crossing them…must work on this.

  • Sally February 9, 2009, 3:40 pm

I’ve read/heard from various sources that it’s a myth that crossing your legs causes varicose veins.

  • Sarah (lovINmytummy) February 9, 2009, 3:44 pm

Gnarled enlarged veins? That sounds delicious and so wholesome! No gravy needed there!

  • Marissa February 9, 2009, 4:52 pm

    ::uncrosses leggs::

  • Leanne February 9, 2009, 5:35 pm

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point February 9, 2009, 5:48 pm

    leanne – of course

  • Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) February 9, 2009, 7:01 pm

  • Marlow February 10, 2009, 7:08 am

It’s so hard not to cross!!

  • MyRunningJourney February 11, 2009, 2:03 pm

    Your lunch looks fabulous!

I try to never cross my legs for that very reason!! I used to do it all the time and now I have nasty spider veins and I’m only 25!!! I cross my ankles instead.
