Food Detox

in All Posts

I am SO happy to be eating normally again — and not drinking! My body is craving nourishment and hydration!

I started the day with simple banana oatmeal.  Starbucks Perfect Oatmeal is great in a pinch, but I really enjoy the consistency of oatmeal more when it’s made with milk + banana.

My oatmeal contained:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Toppings: sprinkle of Grape Nuts and raisins

Unsurprisingly, I did NOT need a mid-morning snack.

I did eat a very clean and healthy lunch around 11:30.  I made a small side salad (yay veggies!!!):

And a hummus + celery sammie on WW toast.

Hummus always needs something crunchy with it, me thinks!

In other news….

Clifford the Big Red Beta Fish is now sleeping with the fishes, literally.  He bit the proverbial dust this weekend, and Future Husband didn’t notice that he was conked out on the bottom of the bowl… and yet he continued to fed Clifford (trust me, Clifford’s been dead for at least two days)!

RIP Clifford!  I’m not sure what to do with his little fishy body — right now it’s in a plastic bag in my fridge.  Should I bury him, release him to a lake, or flush him down the toliet?  Thoughts??

    Deliciousness!!!

So sorry about Clifford 🙁 I buried my fish in the backyard, using a film canister as a coffin.

  • Krista December 8, 2008, 10:18 am

When our beta’s died, my hubby flushed them!

Lovely oats and crispy looking salad!

  • Meg December 8, 2008, 10:21 am

    Love all your healthy eats!

    Sorry about Clifford.

  • girlrunningaround December 8, 2008, 10:22 am

Poor fishy. We flushed ours when it died.

  • K December 8, 2008, 10:24 am

We always flushed our fishys when they died. RIP Clifford!

I’m going to have to try the celery and hummus sandwich!

  • therunningaddict December 8, 2008, 10:25 am

    Oh sorry about that!
    🙁

  • Halie December 8, 2008, 10:27 am

Great way to nourish your body! I really want a hummus and celery sandwich now!

I am very sorry to hear about Cliffort :,( When I had a Beta, I didn’t have to flush or burry it because it died when my cat had eaten it. It might be nicer to burry the little guy.

  • Halie December 8, 2008, 10:29 am

Whoa, I had a few too many spelling errors in that! I meant Clifford and bury (I wrote burry twice!)

  • Erica December 8, 2008, 10:33 am

    Glad you’re back 🙂

    Sorry about Clifford! I’d flush…

  • Sharney December 8, 2008, 10:35 am

Oh no, Clifford!!! I would probably flush him, but I guess it all depends on how special he was to you! The ground & lakes are all frozen in my neck of the woods, so flushing would really be my only option!

Yay for getting back on track! You are doing an awesome job of feeding & nourishing your body with high nutrition foods today! I did some holiday baking on Thursday (I baked for 5 hours, can you believe it!!! Craziness!!!)Between "sampling" my goodies and spending time with my family & their goodies, I ate lots of crap this weekend! It feels good to get back on schedule today, so I hear ya!

So, so happy you're back 🙂

  • Sharney December 8, 2008, 10:37 am

Btw, I love your new photo on your blog!

  • Eliza December 8, 2008, 10:50 am

I’m not sure, but I remember hearing it was illegal to flush fish down the toilet because of the risk of unknown bacteria. I would throw the fish out with the garbage, or compost it if you can.

  • Meghann December 8, 2008, 11:09 am

awww.. poor Clifford. *sniff I would bury him, but make sure him snot where the dogs will be able to sniff him out.

I haven’t actually registered for Gasparilla yet. I’m waiting until after the new year to do so. Have you?
By the way while I had all this time to think during my run on Saturday, I thought it would be a fun idea to make shirts for the half.. Something corny like Team Food Bloggers on the front and our web addresses on the back. What do you think?

  • arielle December 8, 2008, 11:17 am

Flush! He belongs in the water. Plus if you put him in a lake, I bet another fish will eat him. Or something. I have no idea.

  • ohsheglows.com December 8, 2008, 11:32 am

I know what you mean about how good it feels to get back on track and eating healthy. Good for you for being able to balance it all out! 🙂

  • Bridget December 8, 2008, 11:46 am

Its amazing how are bodies crave healthy food after a weekend full of not so good food 🙂 That salad looks perfect.

    RIP Clifford!!

  • Katy December 8, 2008, 12:09 pm

We always flush and “say a few words”. So he could swim with the other fishies in the septic tank.

  • Catherine December 8, 2008, 12:24 pm

Aww so sad about Clifford. I always used to send my fishies to the “ocean” Finding Nemo style (flushed ’em).

  • Rose December 8, 2008, 12:33 pm

I always feel that way after drinking too much – yuck.

Aw, sorry to hear about Clifford 🙁

  • tfh December 8, 2008, 12:52 pm

Mmm, the joys of simple home food. And isn’t that the point of bach parties, to go out and have fun but come home and realize you’d rather just spend your life having the same reliable and wonderful thing every single day? Ha, ha. Welcome back. I’m glad FH is better with dogs (and small children? one hopes) than he is with fish. 😉

  • Allie December 8, 2008, 1:02 pm

Sorry to hear about your loss…

I know the feeling of needing detox after a weekend of TOO MUCH! Feels great!

  • Jamie and Craig December 8, 2008, 1:04 pm

    Awww RIP Clifford!
Isn’t it funny how after a weekend like that your body really does CRAVE clean things like veggies and WATER =) I know the feeling TRUST ME!

  • Meghann December 8, 2008, 2:03 pm

Wednesday works for me 🙂 I was hoping you would make it sooner, I really want to see it as well!

  • Jess December 8, 2008, 2:07 pm

Sounds like you had an absolute blast during your NYC weekend! And that food definitely sounds yummy! I might try out that sandwich!

  • sarah December 8, 2008, 2:15 pm

aww RIP Clifford. I always bury my fish!

  • Runeatrepeat December 8, 2008, 2:24 pm

Sorry about Clifford. I say flush.

  • Mica December 8, 2008, 2:30 pm

LOVE the sandwich idea. Mmm crunchy things with hummus, delicious!

I’ve heard it’s bad to pollute the water system even minimally with fishy corpses, so maybe burying is best…but that’s linked to the water system anyway, so who knows. RIP your fishy.

  • Laura December 8, 2008, 6:07 pm

    Poor Clifford. 🙁

I’m a little late posting, but your bach party looked like a total blast! It looks like you have an amazing group of friends.

  • just me December 8, 2008, 7:19 pm

sorry about clifford…i always buried my pets, even my hamsters! all four are still in the backyard! otherwise, flushing is the best. 🙁

    love the eats!

  • Samantha December 8, 2008, 11:36 pm

Yum I love hummus on a sandwich! Maybe bury him? I would say do whatever you think feels right.
